Maybe because the time investment is so short by comparison? Also there's no ramp-up time before getting into the action. Being able to execute good footsies and long combos against good players is fun too, and playing against tournament-level players is exciting.

Pretty much how I feel about it as well, I don't do 1v1's on SC2 anymore, only team games because I can do whatever the fuck I want and screw around, whereas its too much of an effort to do 1v1'ing anymore. On SF4 I can just take a break between any 3-4 minute set and thats that.

I beat the arcade mode on hardest using basically only fp and ex moves with Honda, never focus attacking or throwing or jabbing, barely using any ultras or supers. That kind of play got me around an 8% win rate online.

You'll probably get your ass handed 95% of the time during the first 50 or so matches, but what the hell, they'll only last ~3minues or something ![]() The start is rough but after having like 5% win rate after 50matches with Ibuki I'm nearing 25% now after ~130 or something and even If I lose I at least take a round most of the time, it's really cool to see the progress on yourself.

I've learned all my bnb combos, and can do my ultra combos etc.. learned some frame data on some skills, but I still feel like i'm progressing soooo slowly.. at least compared to scii watching sfiv "replays" also is no help to me because the ppl that play online never play like the way the pros do in the youtube vids/replays whereas in scii it's easy to learn how to respond to things etc, and much easier to learn if you're playing right (doing the right builds etc...)

I love how the rounds are limited to 99 seconds and each round is nice and short, clean 1v1 (although 7 round games do annoy me) That and matchmaking is hack free, no random disconnects, less intensive (I can eat and play at the same time), and skill level is better represented (i.e. large gap between low masters+high masters, smaller gap between people in same rank)

That's what I like about it. Online play in both games is a lot of cheese. Can't really stand these idiots on AE that don't think, because mindgames don't work on them. They don't get scared, they just keep pushing buttons. Block & punish are easy wins, but also boring wins imo. Also, I feel that you give up the momentum when you play block & punish, which puts you at a disadvantage. Furthermore, once I do get my damage in, most of the time there's still 60 seconds left on the clock, which is pretty hard to turtle out. Especially against my Akuma friend, playing as Makoto :p

People who are higher up did not get there by spamming shoryuken or mashing buttons like a tekken player. The same cannot be said for sc2, where you can 6pool/4gate to grandmasters

Anybody have an idea how i can fix this? Shoulda bought a 360 stick For those new and losing a shit ton, it's probably because you're new to SF4 (or fighting games in general) while a lot of the other "new" players are actually SF4 veterans who just upgraded to AE. I had a 80% win ratio from the getgo because I was hitting complete noobs who didn't know how to block low lol And yeah, the skill curve is steep, but the game is really fun once you begin to understand how to play. 2 key things to learn: 1. Basic Combos/your BnB 2. Matchups (i.e. know how to block/avoid various ultras like dictator crossup ultra, blanka ultra, crossups, how to deal w/ dhalsim as zangief, what moves punish certain moves) The 2nd one takes quite a bit (I still can't figure out Seth v. Gief and maintain it is broken) but once you get it you'll become much better When your play becomes more refined you can throw in mixups, try 1-2 frame links, read your opponents, etc.

Strayzor, I looked into that x360 controller emulator and i think it probably would've worked so thanks for the suggestion.
