Oni always was amongst the most underrated characters in the game. Its kind of frightening to think of capcom is rebalancing for ultra initially based off old notions of character strength. Give buffs to a character like oni and he could well get out of hand. Other supposedly "top tier" characters that in reality are already on the decline might possibly end up useless, because their strength was overestimated based on times when the level of competition was not high enough to reveal their deciding flaws in full effect.

Infiltrations Oni is very good, but its still a level below waos oni from what I have seen.

Even as an Oni player I'm a bit afraid of Ultra. I'd rather not get buffed that much, because you're right he doesn't really need it. Honestly, I'd take either:

- Can FADC his DP
or
- Fireballs slightly less recovery

and that's it really. His gimmicks are still gimmicks, good mixups/strong, and some unsafe so a gamble. His normals are OK, a bit stubby but his command normals are useful. His combos and stun potential are great. He's a good character.

I play him because he's my favorite character. Can't wait til everyone yells at me for it in Ultra if he gets buffed

I'd rather have all character can't FADC on block than giving Oni fadc on block.

ME TOO. Perhaps I should have mentioned that as well. Perhaps a better way to say is: I don't think there's any reason Oni's DP should be DIFFERENT than everyone else, even if it's pretty good.

I would love if all DPs weren't FADCable on block

So, if the rumors are true there will be a new focus mechanic added to Ultra, the red focus, which will cost two bars and can absorb multiple hits (lvl two red focus will be unblockable??!)

In addition to that it might become possible to use both ultra's, for lesser damage. (still able to choose to use one ultra for full damage)

I have no idea what to think about the red focus but I the ultra change will be kind of cool IMO. Sure a gief with ultra 1 and 2 will seem OP but if the damage is reduced to hp. spd levels it will effectively make the ultra's less of an insane comeback mechanic.

what do you think ?

My opinion of the rumors is that they're mostly speculation and extrapolation on a lot of the theories flying around. I don't see how anyone could have specific knowledge of the mechanics yet, so I doubt their credibility somewhat.

If we end up with the option to use U1 & U2 with reduced damage, I don't think it'll change much. Most characters are better off sticking with one ultra. Red focus sounds...like it could be really abusive, but I think it's one of those things we just have to see in action.

The biggest change is delayed wakeup, which is something SF4 desperately needs, and would revive my interest in taking it seriously.

i don't really like the idea of a delayed wake-up, id rather have them find a solution for unblockables, hard to blockables and ambiguous jumps are totally legit and adding delayed wake-up would damage that kind of strategies greatly, i mean its ok to have tools vs vortex based chars, but its also needed to have at least some untechable/undelayable knockdowns, thats only my opinion tho.

You can still apply oki on a delayed wakeup. Depending on how it's implemented, safe jumps will probably still exist as well. But as far as inescapable vortex situations, I don't think that's something Street Fighter really needs or is well-equipped to deal with, given the lack of defensive options like pushblock/burst (though maybe this "red focus" will help somehow). I would like to see it return to being a footsie-based fighter, and leave the setplay to games like Marvel and Guilty Gear.

I like the idea of delayed wakeup but maybe keep certain hard knockdowns in the game (like throws?)

Also it will probably be very hard to meaty on variable knockdown timings, I can only imagine what kind of sick option select meaties this will produce : )

I don't mind having the delayed wakeup, but I don't think they can add it just like that. Some characters will lose half their prowess and will have to be played completely different. Making Ultra into a footsie game means the characters will be less diverse too, while that is something I really like about the game.

Not too excited about a delayed wake-up option either. Seems like it would just make the game slower, and it already is the slowest game out there. Wake-up setups are something that is part of the metagame and they shouldn't just be made negligible like that.

Red focus sound ridiculously broken. Two bars for absorbing a Ultra fireball or a full damage combo? I'll take that any day.

Assuming the rumors aren't bullshit, I don't really understand what the red focus is supposed to accomplish. It's not really solving any existing problem, and SFxT already showed us that more mechanics doesn't make a better game.

I guess it's a way for people to get out of blockstring without relying on a invincible fadcable reversal.
I know I would probably use that shit against some character as Makoto, especially if damage is unscalled after it.

Admittedly, I haven't perused through the whole topic so I'm only basing my understanding off of the cellphone pictures which states that it can absorb multiple hits, but still loses out to armor breakers.
