I know the event started yesterday, but I can't find anything resembling a schedule on their website or anywhere else. I've seen a picture of a piece of paper with a schedule on. If I remember correctly SFIV was gonna be played on the second day at... 1 PM?. Maybe. Ish. Sometimes. I don't know whether the picture was fake or not though.

Well Ono has stated they haven't even started anything for SF5. So even if they start right after finishing USF4, it could be years until we hear anything about it.

I am really liking Ryu, but I read that he's not as competitive as other characters? Any recommendations on a similar character like Ryu that I could practice as my alternate or a character that covers Ryu's weak matchups? Thanks for the help guys.

FADC so hard ._. I am really liking Ryu, but I read that he's not as competitive as other characters? Daigo is able to perform at the top level with him without any big issues. And competitiveness isn't something you should worry anyway. The game is well balanced for a fighting game and every character can be play without putting yourself at a handicap.

I appreciate the answer, but could you give a recommendation if you have one?

I don't actually know who cover Ryu's bad match up. :/ The guy is pretty much 5-5 against everyone with a few 6-4. But Ryu is a good archetype that let you transition to almost any motions character ( as opposed to charge ) so I guess it's your choice. You will find a lot of similarity and yet a lot of difference if you play the other shotos. ( Ken, Akuma, Sakura, etc ) They all have the same fireball / shoryuken / hurricane kick core with differents proprieties and different set of normal.

I tried Akuma, but I can never do his ultra lol

But as I said, don't hesitate to just choose what you think look cool. You will have good basics if you started with Ryu anyway.

IMO a much easier character choice would be Cammy or Rufus, or you could try Guile if you want to turn to the lame side. If you just want a more interesting version of Ryu, try Evil Ryu. He plays very differently but still shares a lot of Ryu's moves.

I'd say that he just suffers from being too commmonly used/seen because he is the best starting character. Also because he is so solid he doesn't really have as many unknown or unique shennanigans he can use to get that extra mixup. That being he is still really solid and you shouldnt feel like you are at any kind of extra disadvantage when playing ryu. P.S. For the FADC your if you input a forward input while pressing the focus attack (MP + MK) then you input forward again it will work. Instead of trying to double tap forward. (works with fadc backwards)

and for DP FADC, the down-forward input at the end of the motion may count as the first forward in the dash as long as you're still holding that direction when you hit mp+mk. then you can just tap forward for the dash

Its too easy to develop scrubby habits while playing her because vs lower and mid level players she does kinda allow you to turn your brain off and put people in the blender. when you fight someone who knows the matchup and is confident in their gameplan you will hit a wall until you get some more advanced fundamentals down Shrug. I think this statement applies to 90% of characters in fighting games. Most characters have abusive crap that only works at low levels. Ryu teaches you terrible habits because he has a 3F reversal, but the purpose of a good beginner character is to allow you to be competitive enough to learn the game without getting stomped, and he fills that role.
