Hey, thank you for the heads up. I've been looking for the game to go on sale :p

If you need someone to practice with, you can add me. I'm WindWolf2 on GFWL and this is my Steam Accound. My main is Juri, secondaries are Rose and Evil Ryu.

Its a lot to wrap your head around at first, but executionally speaking he's not too difficult. Once you have the piano into hands down, the rest is just target combos and some pretty forgiving links. You just can't really fuck up cuz he is pretty squishy at 900 health. The main barrier for using him is getting used to his stances, cuz all of his normals in both stances have a purpose.
Xian is a sick player though. Gen looks incredible in his hands.
So I started out with Ryu (he's a classic afterall) and it went pretty well and I got to C rank. Then I tried to play some Makoto... and what the actual fuck? How am I supposed to get in on people, say Guile who is pretty much sitting in a corner Sonic Booming? xD

focus the fireball and use that amazing dash of hers.
mostly you feel bad for beating a beginners and then someone who clearly played the shit out of this game on console comes and destroys you for -128 points :<

I find dashing all the time to be a sure-fire way to get myself killed. On those rare occasions I play well against guile I find myself playing slowly, just walking across the stage (at a snails pace) and getting close enough so you can hop over the sonic booms with her axe kick. The heavy version has really good range especially if you do the plinking trick. It also stuffs anti air normals so guile has to flash kick you (I think).
Though dashing through a sonic boom for an ex command grab-ultra can work pretty well too, I feel like, if its your bread and butter of this matchup, you'll get owned by anyone who has an idea of how to play versus makoto.

Hey, I play makoto too, and with like 1000h on her it's still sometimes hard to get on Guile and such. :p Just be patient, focus some of the booms, use Instant Air tsurugi to get over some other booms. Work to get a knockdown and then he's easy to beat. Use proper setup and bait flash kicks. Punish hard. This match is a very good example :
She's not an easy character. She seems to have all the tools but her low move speed and awkward forward dash make her very hard to play well.
Yeaaaa... I think I'm gonna pass on Makoto for a while although she seems pretty cool. She feels a bit too advanced for someone that started out yesterday.
Some general observations on my first day: 1. I seem to have developed compulsive shoryuken disorder. I should probably look into that asap. 2. Everyone at my points (600~pp/1100~bp with Ryu) seems to be a lot better than me.

Picked it up on the Steam sale. Was pretty alright immediately after AE came out, probably like 2k PP. Steam name/Games for Windows Live is JayChey, feel free to add me if you'd like to play!
Not sure. I don't recognize any of the name there. But then again, I'm probably not that much informed either.
Just changing the subject quickly, vods from ceo2013 are uploaded. Anyone need to check the PR_Balrog vs Mago match, especially the finish, it's awesome.

Air's guide to Ryu helped my Ryu game a ton! The guide is slightly outdated (there has been patches/new versions) so a few things don't work anymore - but dont let that discourage you from watching. Understanding what a top tier player is thinking during a match and how he approaches obstacles is invaluable. He goes over super important stuff like spacing, footsies, safe jumping, meter building, punishes, ect, it will help you understand better the frame work on which the game is played. He explains option-select (really advanced, don't concern yourself with it..yet) in a very simple and easy to understand way which is something I've never seen anyone do before lol.
Also LOL at compulsive shroyu disorder ahahhahaha brofist
Calling Air a top player is a little far-fetched in my opinion. He's definitely pretty good and probably knows what he's talking about to a certain extent though.
Basic option selects also imo aren't that advanced, especially with Ryu with whom you can just throw and faceroll with the option select safejump against almost anyone. It's very easy to get the timing down so that it's automatic and it will piss opponents off to no end, especially if you also have a safejump setup off a sweep.
Sakura being able to confirm into 400 dmg with 2 bars off almost anything is completely amazing, by the way.

mms bsida is good, but shouldnt be much of a problem for someone who won against infiltration. really hope the europeans can make something happen at evo, but i kinda doubt it. anyone knows if luffy will be there?
