I just bought AE, and started training Cody! I used to play a lot of GGXX#R so I'm not a total newb to fighting games.. I'm getting bodied online. I also recently bought a stick and the switch is not that easy..
The hard part about SF for me is the super short hit stops and the hit confirms. And the link combos of course. It's also funny that most link combos look the same in training mode whether you hit them or not. You can only tell the difference by the counter at the end of it.. This plinking stuff is strange.. I'm having problems buffering double quartercircles super fast. Like Cody CH 6MP --> Ultra 2. How the hell is this humanly possible. Do you use your sticks with finesse and a light touch or do you grab it really hard?

SF4 has a generous input buffer window, if you haven't noticed this already. What you would do in the case of CH f+mp -> u2 is do the f+mp input immediately followed by qcbqcb (while the move is starting up), then after you see the "counter hit" text appear, you hit PPP.

In that cafeID stream, was tasteless the one with the Blanka? Ahahaha :D
In any case, who's going to be watching Winter Brawl? I'm rooting for Justin to do well in AE, as he's been in a pretty big slump in that game since EVO.
Also, I'm smashrog on PSN, hit me up for some sets with a bad Balrog.

Also, the Ultra motions just take a lot of practice. I personally input them pretty strongly (on stick), even though I don't always play like that. Just easier for me. Best way is literally just spamming them out in training or trying some of the trials with basic characters.
Cody is solid. Good mix of fundamentals, link combos, and mixups/setups. Solid. Fun.

And Cody doesn't make you too addicted to having reversal, since he doesn't have one. :p
Personnaly bereing playing for 300h already ( which isn't much since I'm starting fighting game with this one ). Online is so hard it's unbelievable. I'm getting my ass kicked. Doesn't help that I play Makoto and that my winrate against ryu is near 10%. ._.

excal i think the setup for the midscreen crossup tatsu is mp dp, forward jump, dash, tatsu. should be unblockable while crouching, crossup otherwise

also Re: Cody, he is really difficult to play. the first time you play an extended set against someone who knows the matchup and doesn't recklessly hit buttons, you will be very very sad. in a lot of matchups you will get nowhere unless you can straight outfootsie your opponent, which is why so few play him at a high level
he is a fucking scrub destroyer though

It's just that it usually requires a very unusual punish. You can't really apply anything you know from other match-ups to her, so you actually have to lab your answers for all her shenanigans or you will be walked over. I don't buy it. Her normals aren't very good but they're all cancelable. Burnkicks are insanely plus on standing block and even more plus on crouching block. MP TK is only -1. I've tried Sakura c.mk to get under burnkicks but it either doesn't work or the timing is really difficult, need to figure that out.
First of all as another poster said, Viper is generally considered to be at a reasonable advantage vs Sakura but thats pretty much entirely through Vipers seismo zoning/keepaway working really quite well on her. Viper going aggressive on you is very counterable with Sakura which I believe Fakesteve attested to in some post a while ago.
In regards to everything she does being unsafe you literally just need to look at it in a different way. Punishing on block is one way to potentially punish something. Whiff punishing is forgotten about all too often. Medium/Jab thunderknuckle has a pretty massive startup (it aint no rekka) and the total frames of the moves are huge. Predict medium thunderknuckle, neutral jump (which isnt beaten by anything else, react stuff air burnkicks or jump forwards etc) and if she does medium thunderknuckle youve just half killed her and put her a hit or two away from stun->the round. That makes medium thunderknuckle pretty damn unsafe. If youre complaining about blockstring->medium thunderknuckle ender then shrug, half the characters in the game have some kind of a safe string ender (obviously you can mash shoryu between the normal and the medium tk on block but that has to be done on prediction and isnt exactly safe), it doesnt do very much other than a bit of meter+tiny amount of chip in exchange for giving up the opportunity to go for the mixup options she could have if she did normal->feint->X such as overhead, crossup burnkick, dash throw etc.
Likewise, if she ever randomly EX seismos close/mid range and you predict jump at even remotely the correct time you half kill her because again, the total frames of the move is horrendously massive and she cant cancel the recovery into something if it whiffs. Its well worth gambling for that outcome occasionally if shes EX seismo happy because her antiair only does 70 damage or 140 damage if she gets trade into a second, but then youre hitting her with 100~ damage from the trade, not exactly the end of the world (dont do this when she has ultra unless your EX seismo read is reaaaaaally good!).
Burnkicks are even more unsafe as you can literally make them whiff on reaction in most situations and can make sensible fairly safe reads to make them whiff in others. It requires practice, anticipation and good execution but its entirely doable and well worth learning if youre ever going to be potentially playing a Viper in a tournament setting etc. If the Viper hasnt learned that burnkicks arent really useable anymore they will probably just autopilot themselves to death vs you (myself included).
I had to learn this lesson about 6 months ago or so after raging about a couple of other characters (Bison and...something else I cant remember, maybe Adon). I think alot of the game overall is basically about doing options that dont lose to anything, but that beat something they could potentially do. Not exactly mindblowingly fresh/new logic but if I ever encounter a new problem in a matchup now after 15 minutes of raging that the basic counters dont work I go back to this general idea and just look for something I can do that would beat this option on prediction (preferably haaaaaaard) but not lose to anything else (its okay to lose to things they have to do on prediction that nobody in their right mind would ever do, at least until they soulread your patterns and implement it, in which case you adjust). Once youve found the thing that works you just judge their playstyle in the first round/two and implement the things into your neutral game that counter the things theyre overusing. Everybody neutral jumps vs Balrogs to land on rush punches, everybody neutral jumps midrange vs Fei to land on rekkas - it just requires taking the same whiffing logic and applying it elsewhere.

hahaha. I don't know if I'd say good. =] I know Blanka players tend to have combo aversion but he's basically not trying for even simple cancel combos at all. He's messing up jab->HP elec and he has no setups or pressure off his knockdowns. He's playing super gimmicky too (half of that is Blanka being Blanka though) with his hop forward throw, hop forward ultra, hop back slide. He tries to focus at mid range against Rose for some unknown reason (it's working though, so okay) but the only thing he's getting out of a successful focus crumple is a throw with nothing behind it.

To be fair I'm surprised he even is on a stick at all-I've never heard anything about him playing this game. You would think his fast SC2 fingers would make him good at pianoing electricity though :D

Not trying anything but a throw after a sucessfull saving attack was driving me crazy when watching. :<

managed my first BnB today, feel really satisfied :D

I so freaking hate this game. I have the feeling of being that guy on SC2, who has played 1000 games but is still in Bronze. It's driving me crazy.
Can't stop playing it tho. :/
