Thanks for the replies man!
Hows the DLC applied then? I thought it was a code and you would get the same code no matter where you bought it from but..
I was told steam DLC only works if you get it for steam, and I can't use my CD key to put SF on steam. I have to use the Windows Live marketplace :[

I don't know about the ps3 stick, but regarding the 360 controller they are usually plug-and-play. There are SOME setups that don't immediately recognise the stick, for those you have to get the microsoft xbox 360 controller driver:
From what I've found reading SRK, you're correct ain. PS3 sticks have problems with certain usb controllers apparently, but they're fixable via bios update.

Get yourself a nice dualmodded stick.
It seems there are also full-Sanwa Qanba multi-platform sticks out there. Is there a particular advantage to a stick that is sold as multi-platform, compared to a dedicated console stick with the proper drivers on PC? Are dual-modded and multi-platform the same thing? I'm assuming dual-modded implies after-market alterations.
if you only care about pc then simply get the xbox version. you certainly dont need multiplatform sticks for pc (i doubt ps3/xbox dual compatibility would help at pc anyways). sure, if you plan to attend local tourneys a qanba multi platform stick seems to be a nice alternative.
Competition is a fair point for consideration. As it stands I live in the middle of nowhere, but I'll likely be moving for university soon and I'll have more opportunities to play with groups of friends or at tournaments and it'll be totally worth it to invest in a stick capable of handling all the systems.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and anger people, but most offline tourneys are played on 360.

Not in Norcal =( Every single tournament in this entire region is on PS3 and the last time someone showed up at a Thursday Night Throwdown with a 360 stick, Kineda mocked him and said "you KNOW all the majors are on PS3 why would you bring a 360 stick?"

Word good to know. Good heads up!
Perfect time to chime in with that info since I'll likely be in Chico.

I live about a half-hour away from Chico and I've never really seen or heard of anything going down asides from the Sacramento area which is an hour out of my way, but it could be different at CSU. Assuming that's what you meant when you mentioned going to university.

Not really. The beauty of learning stick is that everyone will have them so you can borrow someone's at a tourney if it's on a different console
Although tournaments really ought to stop running sf4 on ps3 at this point. At least the small ones that haven't already bought a ton of ps3s for previous years before we knew better.

P.S. Hakan is surprisingly high on the list, given what I know about him.
A lot of top players have tried akuma at some point and just gave up. He is definitely one of the harder characters to learn because of so many different character specific set-ups, and set-ups are very important for Akuma.
You will fail. Especially since you are just picking up the game, presumably. You will fail hard.

Kind of... But not really.
His BnB is incredibly easy, c.HP -> LK Tatsu -> Shoryuken already deals a ton of damage(way above average for punish BnB). His fireball zoning is great. As a beginning player, you can completely ignore getting pressured on wakeup better than anyone in the entire cast.
Also the mixups really aren't that difficult to begin with, you don't need to do crazy stuff at all. Footsies -> score a sweep -> demon flip -> opponent already has to play a rough guessing game. You don't really need to learn much more than the demon flip throw and the demon flip kick at the start, though it's nice to be able to do empty demon flip palm -> grab as well, still for a beginner player you can do a basic vortex very easily. Optionselecting sweep is pretty simple and an easy way to make those more dangerous as well.
He has the potential to be super dificult and advanced but as a beginner you can still make very good use of him. Fast walkspeed, superb pokes and the best fireballs in the game help with footsies and the demon flip okizeme works on the entire cast just fine. Also, again, he has the best get-out-of-jail freecard in the game and the shared best reversal in the game. I'd even say it's the very best Shoryuken because you can actually hitconfirm the FADC.

I refuse to believe that chun li is anywhere near that high or gouken that low.
It's a community tier list. Apparently they take feedback from multiple high-level people who main the specific characters(I greatly prefer this over a single person making a tier list btw).
It's a match-up chart more than a tier list, you'd need to point out the matchups you have a problem with to make a good argument. Also some of the lower characters haven't been fully finished, that is when they went through Akuma they covered, say, Akuma vs Gouken from the Akuma players' perspective, when they get to Gouken they'll see what happens with that and if it needs to be changed and so on.
Again if you think Chun-Li shouldn't be that high you should point out the matchups that are incorrect, same with Gouken.
On the topic of Chun-Li:
0:58 ->
I mean, according to the Tier list Gouken only is worse than 4-6 against Blanka who he's 3-7 vs so you might want to start with that. You could additionally see which of the 4-6 matchups you don't agree with and so on. However the matchups between the lowtier characters are some months old.
I want to try akuma aswell. He seems cool.I like his mixups and runaway tactics. I downloaded the tokida formula. It is 2 hours long pretty good video.Tokido is one of the best tokido players in the world explaninig basic and advanced akuma stuff in it.It is similar to Air s guide to ryu.I would recommend to watch it if you are new to akuma like me.
