Gief has real good footsies man.
I kind of mean Gief's problems with people running away and spamming projectiles, hakan counters that playstyle.
Also cammy is new? I thought she's been considered top tier for like half a year now
Got bored and started picking up a bit of Cody. Jesus these links are ezzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and he punishes ppl pushing buttons so hard. 3f c.lk is nuts. Having fun with this game again cuz of this guy. Corner setups post ex.ruffian kick are ridiculous. Should switch to U2 though.

That's exactly what I mean though. She's always been top tier but there seem to be so few, and people STILL frequently point out how ridic her damage and potential are even after so long, AE and 2012 patch included.

You need those crispy linkz in order to maximize her damage potential.
Also the reason why new 'top tier' characters sometimes don't see play right away is because people have to go learn a new character. Also if you are playing a top-tier character already most people won't switch.
Crispy links? I tested cammy in practice mode, all her BnBs are ridiculously easy.
Although it's tough to make spiral arrow hit twice after the crouching MK(actually nvm no its not -,-) but yeah 80%~ consistency with the links after 15min in training mode not too tough imho
By the way it makes me realize that she deals very little damage at once ._.

I like this topic especially with 2012 because I think a large portion of the top-end player base has stuck with a few characters since the game's been out for so long, but 2012 really had some weighty changes. The only one that somewhat comes to mind is Hakan for example, but I'm interested to see what people think.
Gen and Gouken definitely.
Gen has really good footsies, great mixups and does decent damage. When he gets super he gets really scary however. His next hit is guaranteed to take 50%+ of your hp. If he doesn't choose to hit you he can grab you out of the air from almost anywhere on the screen for 40% damage. Then there's some stuff like crossup ogas which people have started to become really consistent with. Amiyu made top8 with Gen in this years Shadaloo Showdown. I'm really more on the lookout for Yeb and Xian however. Their Gen is just miles ahead of everyone else.
Gouken is being kept down by the Dhalsim syndrome. He's got great zoning but is forced to make reads over and over against some of the more popular characters, resulting in some bad matchups. Some of those are Cammy, Viper, Seth, Rufus - characters with really solid rushdown. On the other hand he can really destroy other zoning characters. I feel there's a lot of untapped potential here. He's got great zoning and footsies and can put on some decent pressure himself. It just seems like nobody wants to put in the effort to make him work. I think at this point in time only Infiltration would have a chance of placing him in top8. He has an understanding of Goukens abilities that I haven't seen from anyone else.

Xian beat Daigo in like best of 13 with Gen, pretty good. He has some terribad matchups though and he deals very tiny damage normally but otherwise I agree.
I really wonder if Infiltration actually is the best Gouken in the world, I'm kind of doubting it but then again as a player he might have so strong mindgames and such that even if his character knowledge isn't as good, he'd have the best results with him.
There's a few Goukens who really impress me, though.

You need those optimized character specific combos.
Are their like different alternate costumes for characters besides the DLC ones? The dlc ryu is the one with the bandanna, but I've seen the one where he has a long man skirt and the one where he's all beat up. How o.o I want too D:

The original DLC costumes from SF4 and SSF4 are all forwards compatible.

Thanks for the replies man!
Hows the DLC applied then? I thought it was a code and you would get the same code no matter where you bought it from but..
Should I grab a ps3 or 360 TE for PC AE? I've heard PS3 has problems depending on what you have under the hood, but the 360 controller drivers suck or something like that. Sorry if I have my head up my ass lol.

I don't know about the ps3 stick, but regarding the 360 controller they are usually plug-and-play. There are SOME setups that don't immediately recognise the stick, for those you have to get the microsoft xbox 360 controller driver:
