I play Ibuki, but my defense is shit. I know the range of my abilities pretty well, but I have trouble finding openings in games. Do you guys have any recommendations on where to go from here?
haha i find kind of the same problems with sakura, ppl I ask always tells me i need to be more aggressive, i mean, if i can't find and opening how good does grinding training mode to make sure i can land combos? but then again, coming from guile it's only natural i'm turtlish >_<

all you have to do with guile is projectile spam (its prertty much the best in the game) and then flash kick when they get close. maybe throw in a grab or lowkick once in a while. guile is so annoying to fight against.

Never seen a good Guile ey? He's definitely one of the hardest characters if you want his full potential. There's annoying flowcharts out there for every character, not just him.
Guile has unjustly the stigma of noob char just because he has the best proyectile in the game (which meter gain has been nerfed) , and flashkick was godlike once upon a time(now just very good). Both this tools make him outright a very strong defensive char, but he is quite hard to master, theres more than zoning and spacing to his play
he does have anyway a somewhat more aggressive style too (which most of the lower caliber players, like myself for instance, will not use very much or not at all), the problem is you have to be very good in this game to play it propperly, ever more with the AE dmg nerfs it hurt so much this style.
i'm bad, and i will be wrong in some things, but i'm always willing to learn from people that know more than me

If he's so easy, then go play Guile. I actually dropped Guile for Chun, Blanka, and Sagat because they were easier characters. Most people new to fighting games don't see the skill in controlling space/zoning, but don't worry you'll learn in time or maybe you won't...

Do you know what you're doing wrong?
You can practice until you're blue in the face but if you don't know where you're screwing up then you wont get better. Figure out what your weaknesses are and work on them. If you haven't gotten better in 2 months its probably a total lack of good fundamentals and just concentrating on the wrong thing.
I know a lot of new players concentrate on landing combos when that wont do shit for you if you can't hit them in the first place. Learn footsies, learn how to block, learn how to properly tech. You will be shocked at how quickly you improve when you concentrate on being really good at something inane like blocking. People leave holes in their block stream that can only be exploited if you can block half decently.
After that you can start working on your combos and what not.
Oh yea, and don't start with Ibuki like I did >.> Man that learning curve. I'm happy I did it because it forced me to learn all the fundamentals and then advanced shit on top of that just to be decent but was it FRUSTRATING starting out.
Ya, it's mostly that I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've gotten pretty good at blocking but I always get destroyed by players who play really aggressive and jump in on you and then just randomly stop to throw. It seems like you just have to guess when they are going to throw. I wanted to play akuma because he seemed really agressive and fun but i switched to playing dhalsim tonight and broke 1000 pp in an hour when I had never broken 800 with akuma in 2 months. So maybe I was just playing the wrong char for me but hopefully I'll be able to work on my akuma since I find him much more fun than dhalsim.
Part of it is guessing, but there is also a trick. You can block and mash throw at the same time, you will block and also tech a throw. It takes some practice, but it works wonders. Block and throw, same time.
Also, forget combos for now. Work on blocking, throwing, zoning, mind games, and mixing up your strategy. Learn your normals extremely well. You can easily get to like 3k PP with mostly normals, uniques, and a few specials.
haven;t been really payin attention to whats been goin down in terms of AE (outside of yipes commentated guard crushes) with 3sO out, but jesus momochi's cody

that round at 12:20...soooo good. But man, those commentators are annoying.
Who would you'll advice to play for someone who want to play footsie/poke char? I'm playing boxer but suck at charges (I know you can kinda footsie with every character in the game but meh) So if possible someone with quartercircles else i'll stick with boxer.

Thanks.
Play Fei long, Rose, Yang, Bison, Ryu, Chun-li, Dhalsim, Guile, DJ, Sagat or Vega. Those characters are very footsie heavy.
