I even checked my replays where I exclusively try to ultra for the last half of the match and the only thing that is always off, is, that there are only 2 punches pressed first, and then the third immediately afterwards. Thing is, I don't do the inputs slowly and instead hit the buttons with full force (because of rage ofc). Even when concentrating specifically to hit them all at the same time. Has anyone had the same problems?

He is very exited for Dota2 to come out. Lol thats awesome, they're always playing chinese poker whenever Min is streaming i think thtas pretty hilarious. Damn if I were in brooklyn I'd be going there all the time, seems like too much fun to miss out on. I've been suggesting to chobopeon the writer for sk/esfiworld/mlg/himself to go down there for a new book he's working on and I think he wants to try to find time to go as well. The Next Level just seems pretty awesome all around.

I've decided to not care about points anymore and just play vs better people to try and improve but getting my ass kicked 24/7 is tough on morale. Do you know what you're doing wrong? You can practice until you're blue in the face but if you don't know where you're screwing up then you wont get better. Figure out what your weaknesses are and work on them. If you haven't gotten better in 2 months its probably a total lack of good fundamentals and just concentrating on the wrong thing. I know a lot of new players concentrate on landing combos when that wont do shit for you if you can't hit them in the first place. Learn footsies, learn how to block, learn how to properly tech. You will be shocked at how quickly you improve when you concentrate on being really good at something inane like blocking. People leave holes in their block stream that can only be exploited if you can block half decently. After that you can start working on your combos and what not. Oh yea, and don't start with Ibuki like I did >.> Man that learning curve. I'm happy I did it because it forced me to learn all the fundamentals and then advanced shit on top of that just to be decent but was it FRUSTRATING starting out.

Ya, it's mostly that I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've gotten pretty good at blocking but I always get destroyed by players who play really aggressive and jump in on you and then just randomly stop to throw. It seems like you just have to guess when they are going to throw. I wanted to play akuma because he seemed really agressive and fun but i switched to playing dhalsim tonight and broke 1000 pp in an hour when I had never broken 800 with akuma in 2 months. So maybe I was just playing the wrong char for me but hopefully I'll be able to work on my akuma since I find him much more fun than dhalsim.

Also it sounds to me like you're putting too much value into PP. There isn't much difference between 800 and 1000 PP and it's not that accurate of an indicator of skill (although good players obviously maintain a high amount of PP) I'm probably not much better than you, but playing in Australia (where a lot of times there's only like 2-3 people online... Sometimes only 1 other person), I don't have much of a choice when it comes to picking opponents. So I've been playing opponents way better than me from day 1. Though I'm still pretty shit at the game, I personally feel like I've improved significantly over the 1000 (woo milestone!) ranked games I've played against (mostly) better players so far. I know you mentioned the same thing in your previous post, but yeah... Just kind of want to reinforce that point. Also make sure to analyze youtube videos of high level players using your character and read up on option-selects and character-specific tips and stuff on sites like shoryuken.com or eventhubs.com (in case you haven't been doing so already).

Mike ross gave some of the best advice i've heard for playing street fighter online. Which was, if you see your opponent , frantically pushing buttons like crazy, trying to random you out with uppercuts or just plain mashing (which a very large amount of players online do) just hold down back. Against these types of players you can usually just let them kill themselves. Example being, those honda players just constantly doing headbutts from full screen or butt slams. If you see them going nuts, just hold down back. Even if you get thrown, that's better than eating their randomness and then getting frustrated. Just make sure to punish their unsafe moves. Another thing it's important to recognize is that this game has a lot to do with resource management. Think of your meter like a resource, there are many things you can do with it, and if you force your opponent to use his, then there are many things HE can't do. Space is probably the most important resource in the game. Forcing someone into the corner is one of the best tools many characters have. Just remember, practice your footsies. Learn your normals. Learn your anti airs. Go into the lab for combo training. Then go to vs comp to practice your reactions in landing combos. Of course, play online during this whole time so you can get some vs human practice. Don't worry about your points so much, they don't really mean anything and once you are better you will accumulate them quite quickly. There really isn't anything you can do about lag, and believe me when I say i know how you feel. Playing sf with lag is one of the most frustrating things out there, but there it isn't in your hands. Just try to join the green bars if you can. Usually i wont go under 3 yellow bars, and even that is sketchy. Most importantly, have fun. It's a game and we are all learning. We can't all be daigo when we first start playing. And hold down back against those people going nuts. P.S For all of it's faults Shoryuken.com's forums do have one very nice thing that i would suggest to anyone. Within every section for every character, there will be a matchup thread. If a certain character is giving you problems, go to your character's forum and lookup the matchup. Usually there will be pages of information all condensed into the op, telling you almost all your options against that character from the fighting scene hive mind. Study up!

"did i do the maximum amount of damage in this situation?" players who jump in on you: -when are they jumping in? are they just doing it randomly? your anti-airs as akuma are shoryuken and crouching fierce. you can even do c.mk xx ultra demon. if it's after knockdown, well, that's a game you have to play. -are they doing jab-jab-throw? you can crouch tech (downback+lp+lk). if they throw you'll automatically tech. if they just stand there you'll do a crouching jab. there are ways around this, however, but you'll learn that when the time comes. when i played vanilla what helped me a lot with akuma is taking advantage of knockdowns from throws and sweeps. he has a lot of sick options and once i learned all those, i won a lot more.

I mean... I've played lots of good players, and I at least put up a good fight after a few sets of adjusting and looking at my opponent's play... But against this zangief, I literally got pummeled to the ground 98 rounds out of 100, including at least 1 or 2 double perfects by him. I don't play many zangiefs, but now that I think about it, I've never won a single match against a zangief in ranked, except 1 time against this 300 PP zangief who raged at me for "hadouken spamming". ... If only that worked against good zangiefs. I'm feeling pretty discouraged and depressed right now. So here are the problems I think I'm facing against Zangief. I play Gouken. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any of these, since admittedly I'm still a fairly new player and might not know some things that I should. Okay so here goes. I'd assume most people would tell me Gouken should zone zangief out with fireballs. Unfortunately, Zangief has far too many ways to get through the fireballs and close in on you, making it only safe to throw a fireball when you're at least a screen apart. I could try to keep my distance to keep throwing fireballs, but that'll only put me in the corner more quickly. So yah, unless someone proves me wrong, I don't think zoning with fireballs is a valid strategy against zangief, at least not as my main game plan. Next, it's impossible for me to jump in on Zangief, since double lariat pretty much stops any kind of jump in attempt by me. This means no crossing him up on knockdown. My only valid option on his knockdown is to safe jump (lariat is 4 frames startup if I'm not mistaken, which means safe jumpable by gouken) using his DF dive kick. My options are pretty damn narrow already, and if the safe jump is blocked, I'm really not sure what to follow it up with. If I try to start a block string, it feels like I'd eat a 360. If I neutral jump, it's easily punishable with lariat. Even so, just getting a knockdown on Zangief seems difficult for me. I guess this is potentially my biggest weakness and biggest problem against zangief, but I probably have shitty footsies. When I played against the zangief, it felt like he outpoked me every single time I tried to throw out a poke of my own. It also feels like throwing pokes out is unsafe since it might end up causing me to eat a 360 throw by extending my hitbox... But then again, I did out-footsy him a couple of rounds and still ended up losing in the end. Why? Because once he gets a knockdown on me, it's 90% game over. It's a fucking guessing game as far as I can tell (well I guess that can be said with other characters' knockdown games but at least against most other characters, just blocking is mostly safe). Against zangief, you gotta gamble. And it's not 50-50. Here's what I experienced against the zangief after I get untechable knockdown'd. He glowing backhands towards me. I hold down back. He 360s me. He glowing backhands again. I hold down back. He 360s me. I wise up. He glowing backhands again. I try to neutral jump, but this time he sends out a light poke instead, which messes me up since I tried to jump, then he follows up with a 360 immediately after. I expect another poke, he immediately 360s. I expect another poke -> 360. I block the poke, immediately try to jump after, but instead he goes with a combo. I can't focus backdash out either (I'm not sure if it's possible with other characters though) since my backdash is horribly slow. Oh, another thing I forgot to add. The range on the 360 throws are crazy. He jumps in with HP(?) I'm not too familiar with zangief's normals, but it's the one where he pushes his arms forward towards you and stretches his whole body out. On block, and I press no buttons, he seems like he's 2 characters apart from me. But from that range, on block, he can still 360 grab me! Holy shit. That was one of my major problems as well. I couldn't stop him from constantly jumping in with that. It felt like that jump-in beat all the normals I threw out, and really, I just couldn't react to it quick enough. This is by no means balance QQ. I'm just stating what I felt like was happening when I played against the guy, and hopefully someone can correct any misconceptions I might have and direct me towards improving my matchup against zangief. If anyone thinks it would be helpful for me to post videos of me getting destroyed by that zangief, then I'll try to upload a couple onto youtube or something. ... Thanks.

The thing is next game everything I just learned goes out the window and I make the same exact mistake. Which leaves me going "WTF was I thinking". Been working on my footsies a lot more though and definitely seem to be doing a lot better.

Any newbs want to be practice partner with me on XBL? Pref NA for lag reasons, but willing to try further away to try out the lag. I'm available Tuesday 12:00-4:00 and fridays 10:00-12:00 EST. PM on TL if interested I play Ibuki, but my defense is shit. I know the range of my abilities pretty well, but I have trouble finding openings in games. Do you guys have any recommendations on where to go from here?
