Soon, the second best event for TL nerders after Blizzcon hits the world. That's right, it's the E3 Expo! This year is already looking like a major show in terms of announcements and debuts of our favorite genres and series. So why should YOU be excited for E3 2011?
Here are the industry heavyweights being showcased:
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Bethesda Mass Effect 3 - Bioware Battlefield 3 - EA CoD: Modern Warfare 3 - Activision/Infinity Ward Assassins Creed: Revelations - Ubisoft Gears of War 3 - Microsoft Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Sony Silent Hill: Downpour - Konami Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City - Capcom Bioshock infinite - Take2 Final Fantasy 13-2 - Square Enix (Yes it will be there)
Wow! That's a list, isn't it? What else can we look forward too? Well...
Rumours have been flying amok that nintendo is ready to announce the first of the next-gen console. It is largely thought to be a direct sucessor to the Wii owing to their dominant position in the motion sensor department, are they willing to let Microsoft and Sony have the traditional console slot without a fight though?
And let's not forget all the other series and games yet to be announced or showcased, or just the ones that are dwarfed by the above titles. I am of course referring to the Final Fantasy's, Soul Calibers, Batmans, Spidermans, Darksiders, Saints Rows...

I remember how I felt seeing Skyward Sword last year, so i'm really looking forward to seeing more on that, plus everything else from Nintendo (Cafe, and 3DS) and also BF3. Can't wait.
looking forward to: - seeing how BF3's multiplayer looks (just bc2 with bigger maps or something truly worth being called a sequel and not just a spinoff?) - how the last guardian plays - more bioshock infinite - twisted metal single player details - will operation raccoon city suck as much as socom confrontation or will it maybe be good? - hopefully a new game announcement from platinum, such as a new bayonetta or vanquish - dragon's dogma footage - how MGS rising will play - will ninja gaiden 3 still be fun if it isnt as hard as the 1st 2 games in the series? - if far cry 3 actually got announced, that'd be pretty awesome - will gotham city imposters be worth how fucking crazy the premise is?

bolded the one that interested me the most bayonetta 2 would be SEX. also excited to see leon in another RE title (plus re2 lore was always my favorite)
edit: oh yea how could i forget the spiritual successor of demon souls ( game took easily 100+ hrs of my life)

E3 was never really that open to the public ever, was it? Im pretty sure even when it was at it's biggest, it still invite-only and they just invited a bunch of gamestop managers and crap.
I was not aware it was only possible to enter E3 by being a member of the gaming industry (which is different to press only), can general public not get in?

valve said that they wont be showing anything at e3 this year :\
I'm only really looking forward to all of the 3DS titles, because as of right now it's just an expensive paper weight that can play awesome DS games. I'm hoping for a new tales game being announced too, that would be awesome.
Looking forward to Mass Effect 3 , i really enjoyed playing first 2 games, never tried Elder Scrolls so i guess i'm curious about Skyrim, i really like the trailer. I wish i get exited about FFXII but i don't own Play Station and don't plan to, ah Assasin Creeds is also interesting to follow, liked the Brotherhood. I guess we'll see how exiting it can get.
I thought there was some rumour somewhere of nintendo releasing some stuff about there new console? And microsoft trying to get a glimpse of there new console?

TLnet, if they tried... actually... might be able to get in~
Anyone else underwhelmed so far? Rob Bowling looked like a tool in his military style dress shirt. COD and Mass Effect look the same. All these games have bad graphics.

Yeah, didn't expect much from Microsoft, but I can't wait for Nintendo.
I just hate the robotic talk these conferences always utilize. Sure, their current audience is nothing but rich enthusiasts and journalists, but the vast majority watching at home are just wanting to see the games.
I'd just like to see one conference where they come out and go "HOLY FUCK. LOOK AT THESE GAMES! THEY HOT AS SHIT! BOOM! BOOM! HERE'S HALF LIFE 3! BOOM! BIOSHOCK 2! LOOK AT IT! FUCK SALES FIGURES! THIS SHIT IS AWESOME! KINECT? WHATEVER! CHECK OUT THIS AWESOME STUFF THESE DUDES ARE MAKING!"
All I get is "As you can see from the new bar and technology we have set, Game's Sequel XYZ will bring consumers the very best in..."

Not sure how you can judge graphics of a game from a live stream :s

Yes I know this but Microsoft owns the rights to Halo and they can continue it if they please. xbox.com did leak halo 4 so I expect it to be announced during this E3.

im not gonna be there, but is there going to actually be people who know what they're watching. Is it gonna look like (to the E3 people) just you guys "demoing" SC2 really hard.
Is E3 a thing that's open to the public? cause then im sure you'll get fans watching you guys
this is bad for competitive halo. if it follows the trend of cod with a yearly release, that kills any progression of the game. splits up the community. this is bad.
There is no doubt that many people will be impressed by these gun games and "no hands" gameplay, but all i personally see are gimmicks that i dont really need or want. This is some "be careful what you wish for" type stuff. Maybe i dont want to sit and have to say everything just to do it. Controllers feel great in your hands, i dont see what the point is of getting rid of them.
Microsoft and sony dont have any ideas. All they can ever do is throw graphical power at the problem of how to captivate people. Or "futuristic" gimmicks. They have no imagination, and zero unique charm.

exactly my thought " things that have never been able to do before with a controller" all i could think was - id be impressed if he actually hit what he was shooting...

Bungie already made a lot of dumb changes in Reach imo. A new Halo is not needed -_-

So what. If it sells for Microsoft, then their happy... and it will sell.
microfail sucks so far i just hope they remake Halo CE. it is the best Halo game and the only one that i played for more then four hours. never mind they changed it clamming they "improved it" i bet it will suck.

i just feel like they are focusing WAY too much on kinect and trying to "redefine" the controller when they don't need to - its just a gimmick like you said. it sounds cool, but its really not needed :|

ryse looked cool until i saw kinect
Same about ryse, I don't want to feel like I'm working out playing a game. That's what my gym membership is for not video games.
the mayans were wrong about 2012 being the end of the world - its the end of good gaming as we know it - microsoft flooding the market with mass kinect shit
On June 07 2011 02:29 Xacez wrote: Kinect Minecraft
What in the what?
I LOL'd VERY hard after seeing that.
I wonder if it will be Notch's team working on that, or perhaps a Microsoft team. If it's Notch's team, I wouldn't trust the product to be bug-free and released in a timely fashion lol.
And this Disney Kinect thing is pretty awkward to watch. Heck, all Kinect trailers were hard to watch.
On June 07 2011 02:32 Xswordy wrote: So how about that minecraft?
I find it funny that there will now be people standing awkwardly in front of their living room TVs for hours at a time, possibly days, mining away and making stuff. Probably more awkward than sitting in front of a computer for hours.
I also find it interesting that they retconned the Assault Rifle in the new Halo 1 remake. It now looks like the Halo Reach model instead of the original one from Halo CE and Halo 3. Kinda bummed out about this retcon, and I think fans may be bummed out about a few other visual retcons.
And it's cool to see the Star Wars Kinect thing showing a Clone Wars battle on Bespin.
This Star Wars stuff it teh lame. The actor looks like he's trying too hard, and it just looks awful and undynamic. Just swing the lightsaber and jump a bit.
Hahahahahaha microsoft is failing so hard. The only cool thing they've brought forth would be Mass Effect 3
Gears is meh Fable on a rail system? I'll spend $60 at an arcade playing time crisis Star Wars - it's kinect
the biggest lul though is a remake of Halo, they just reskinned it, but they didn't even do that very well. Halo has always been renowned for graphics, these look like 2009 graphics on the demo..
i can't believe this is actually so bad, im not normally this negative, but holy crap man disneyland, elmo, railway fable and star wars, everything integrated with kinect even though no one cares... this is just sad, i hope nintendo brings out some exciting shit
i feel sorry for tim schaffer (spelling?) he had done some really great games like psychonauts and brutal legend, but the sold shit so now he only has the budget to do crapgames =/ makes me cry.
Anyways, I think the Halo 1 remake is running on the old engine they used for Halo 3 and Halo Reach. Halo Reach kinda overcame the engine's age by having superb art design, but it seems that the Halo 1 remake won't have the benefit of Bungie's great art department. Tons of reused assets from previous games, it seems.

well voice activated xbox dashboard could be cool if it works proparlly and without a headset. ME 3 with kinect could be fun and ghost recon could be good if it works properly, but yeah the rest is shit and aimed for kids.
i just can't get into all the kinect stuff ... i only watch this shit and i feel extremely awkward. ME3 looked awesome. In Tomb Raider Lara moans and screams that without looking it could be mistaken for a porn flick but the gameplay looked okay'ish. I want to see Skyrim already.
And apparently, the possible Halo 4 announcement was leaked on the official Microsoft website, so I'm sure that will be the bang that ends this awkward series of silly tech demos.
WITH THE MAGIC OF KINECT....DID YOU HEAR GUYS MAGIC....HARRY POTTER WOULD BE JEALOUS...geez...i would like some more hard core games now....or just decent games in general.

Nintendo 2009 with the grand reveal of Wii music in the end was super bad. The problem with this confrence is that the only new thing here is kinect shit, no new hardcore games...
Haha, this is COMEDY GOLD. I'll probably be on my laptop playing BW/SC2 if I ever go to a party with Kinect, though watching the gestures is hilarious.

Master Chief comes out of cryostasis on the remains of the ship that he was on after Halo 3. The ship is in flames as Cortana yells "Chief!" He grabs a pistol (Halo 1 pistol?) and flies out to the edge of the ship with a jetpack. The camera zooms out to show a mysterious alien structure in the background.
Considering that Bungie has moved on to different projects, it'll be interesting to see how this ends up. The guy mentioned that this is the start of a "new trilogy." Hmm....

That game list on the first page was so uninteresting to me as well. So many genres are dead and only FPS is left. I'm not a fan of that genre so nothing interests me at all in that entire list.

I think the new media system looks nice with Kinect, with the speech sensor and stuff. However I don't like the action and shooters are Kinect based now, I can't see my self flipping my arms around, I like sitting down relaxing with the controller shooting up some random 12 year olds on COD, Reach etc etc.

I quite liked the Ghost Recon one was is? With the exploded gun and modification thing. If you could do that, and then switch to a controller it would be pretty awesome
Did anyone see if in Skyrim, there would be a load screen when going into indoor environments? For me, the tons of required load screens in Oblivion and Fallout 3/NewVegas were a very irritating feature of the old engine.

It didn't appear so, but they kind of showed segmented scenes, so it's hard to tell for certain.

They dident show that but there is a 30min demo being showed behind closed doors so that info should be out later.

Also, it seems that the Arkham City demo is starting up on Gametrailers.
Arkham Asylum was really a blast to play, I have big expectations for Arkham City.
SKYRIM, I can't wait! I just hope it'll be a good game right out of the box. There's no way I'll have the patience to wait for mods, and I don't want to be extremely disappointed like I was with Oblivion when it was released.
Zone of the Enders HD Collection, is this confirmed!? Perhaps this will be testing the waters for interest in Zone of the Enders 3? I can't be the only one who loves this series to death!
Is there a list of where the remaining press conferences are being shown? I know EA is streaming theirs, and I think PS is streaming as well, but are they also going to shown live on Spike or G4?

Yeah. It looked exactly like the secret ending to Halo 3, except with the ship and mysterious alien structure on fire. And jetpacks.
Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game looks completely like Modern Warfare 2, and the over-the-top action just seems more silly and unrealistic and overdone than ever.

Won't happen too many rabid fanboys just keep buying a new version each year, even though there is no innovation.

NINTENDO'S MASTERFUL BAIT-AND-SWITCH
GENIUS Why haven't I noticed this before. Yeah all the kinect controls look horrible. I wondered how they were going to dumb down fable even more, but making it into a rails rpg wasn't what I expected... I don't have an xbox but I hesitated because of the cheapness, but after this E3 I know I never have to hesitate again
COD looks like it's done for. I imagine it will sale well but the franchise is on life support as far as I am concerned. Marketing Hype and Bro gamers are keeping it alive.

It's such a shame, though. CoD1 is a classic amongst shooters with some fun multiplayer (bolt-action rifle only servers ftw).
CoD4 was universally praised and was the pinnacle of the series IMO. Then it went downhill from there with MW2, BO, and now MW3.

People like you are the reason why we get shit like Black Ops, Halo 3, Fable 3 etc.
don't assume at all that i like the multiplayer of call of duty or halo, and i haven't touched the fable franchise since half an hour into fable 2.
but i do love the halo and call of duty campaigns, simply because they're entertaining me. and because i played through all of them on co-op legendary with my brother. playing halo 4 is an extra benefit and the simple fact that on a pc you can't play split-screen causes it to be less social for me, this was the main reason i was thinking about getting an xbox 360.

Red Ostra2 should have some good bolt action going for it. I just want to see the beta for it to see if they fixed the clunky gameplay.
hmm they almost had me when they were talking about finger recognition. I perked up thinking ok this could make Kinect viable. FAIL!
thats just tracking your hand/fingers and letting you draw? not actually be doing other stuff then move fingers to perform certain actions. LAME LAME LAME.
come on sony and nintendo. There are like no games currently annonced that im interested in except Heart of the Swarm, and final fantasy versus possibly
I loved Halo 3, but have little hope for the remaining halo titles. Oblivion's level up system and bugginess ruined it for me but ill keep my eye on Skyrim the first mass effect was a huge disappointment for me didnt play the second one FAilBLE has been pretty bad since the second one. Ahhh i guess its time to grow up get a career and stop the gaming until PS5
On June 07 2011 04:52 Coolwhip wrote: We want you to experience the game... *shows CGI trailer* Why not show some ingame stuff?
I suppose that the actual game will be demoed on the convention floor at the EA booth. This might be the case for most of the games shown. Hype the game at the conference, but demo it on the convention floor.
I hate how ME3 seems to become a normal third person shooter where the enemies we have learned to respect in the past two games (because it took entire fleets to take down 1 of them ?) are now classic giant robots that u face in 9 out of 10 of the game out there.
Maybe it's jut pessimistic but I'm really worried, I just hope the story will be at the same levels of the other two games, at least.
Overstrike looks like my kinda game, I just hope it isn't rediculously short like every game nowadays. I need at least 20hours of playtime before buying on release. (yeah I wish)

We may have a misunderstanding, I thought you were poking fun at BF3 as just being another FPS along like CoD and Halo. by calling it "Battlefield: Modern Reach". If that wasn't your intention my apologies.
Edit: HOLY FUCK @ this actual gameplay footage, those graphics are absolutley insane......
Zzzzz how can people still get all giddy over the billionth modern warfare shooter.
probably because BF3 doesn't play like CoD where it's just a deathmatch game, it's a giant game in multiplayer, I think it's said for PC it's 128 ppl in 1 match. With foot soldies, jets, tanks. It's not even similar to CoD.
I know this is just the single player campaign no one cares about, but isn't this just driving forward and shooting missiles at immobile enemy tanks that cannot kill you?

Pretty much, but with awesome graphics! I'm probably only going to play the campaign for co-op.
I'm disappointed that I watched 30 minutes of sport and 25 minutes of other stuff for only ~5 minutes of BF3

skyrim was showed today already. I imagine its on their main site now it looked good.
I was hoping BF3 should show more multiplayer footage then what it showed and the single player tank vs tank was kind of boring but I know they just want to show off the vehicles a little bit.
ME3 isn't looking like anything I haven't seen before, at least combat-wise. The nammi-blade thing doesn't add a dynamic that hasn't been seen in Gears, nor does the stealth aspect or "run-and-gun."
Oh my goodness. The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 guarantee I will need to find money from my poor student life to purchase a new PC.

Eh, tanks are a strange experience for me.
Whenever I drive a tank, I die quickly to infantry. Whenever I'm fighting tanks, I die quickly to those tanks. Kinda like Marauders lol. I can't use them or beat them.
Luckily, I think they're demoing the full multiplayer on the convention floor, and I'm sure that servers will have an infantry-only option, or at least maps where there are limited vehicles.
And if you hate tanks, you could always hide and fight in the subway lol.
Excited for BF3, GoW3 and maybe? a new Rainbow Six.
Activision is running Halo into the ground and is still trying to milk every last cent out of CoD. (Yes Activision recently bought Bungie and SUPRISE, Halo 4)

Is anyone of you following the Gametrailers stream? It's so awkward when the hot chick only reads out super positive (idiotic) comments. Like 'zomg cant want for mass effect with kinect super cool!'
That Battlefield 3 demo was stunning. Sure, it's tank vs tank combat, but I love such vehicular combat mixed in instead of just long hours of only run-and-gun. The sense of scale, destructibility, sound design, effects, lighting, graphics... all phenomenal. I got nerd chills from that demo.

You could always mute the stream until the next conference. There is a Youtube stream that restreams finished conferences and trailers in between conference times.
BF3 looked superb in terms of showcasing the engine. The tank battle wasn't visceral enough for most people, but it allowed you to really peer hard at the amazing details without being duped by too much flashy crap.
Also, clever potshot at MW3 with free stat-tracking. They did what they needed to do.
ME3 looks okay. There was a small showcase of the new melee-insta-gib, rolling and a cute demo of Shep' pulling a guy over from the other side of cover. Small improvements to the response of guns with audio and visuals. As usual, nobody knows whether or not ME3 takes any substantial steps towards the RPG feel. However, it appears that the game is no worse than ME2.

The fact it's connected to a MMO is what makes it not generic. That's the whole point really, If you dont like the mmo or enjoy affecting a huge entity much larger than just yourself then it probably isnt for you.

At least it seems that pretty much everyone is being sceptical about what they're showing us.
Fantastic showing from Sony, Microsoft have really disappointed. Nintendo are going to come out tomorrow and destroy the competition but Sony did great.

universal healthcare is the reason the euros have to pay 50% more than americans.
european socialist programs cost the government more than american programs. european governments fund their programs by increasing the taxes on corporations. the corporations pass on the additional cost to the consumer. the same thing is going to happen in america after we scramble to get the funds to implement our universal healthcare.

The Nintendo conference opens up E3 today in 4 hours. But I am just waiting for the main showroom expo to open up so that they can start showing the "30 minute gameplay demo underneath the huge dragon". :D
This E3 is turning out to be the best one yet. Not because of the organization of it all which I really cannot comment about, but the quality of games on show are literally something else when compared to past events.
Batman: Arkham City, Bioshock: Infinite, Battlefield 3, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Far Cry 3, Halo 4, Gears of War 3, Modern Warfare 3, The Old Republic - And those are all off the top my head.
I am expecting to be kicked out of my house by my parents when all of these are eventually released.
Looks like the next few years are going to be pretty good for gamers.
Nintendo in 25mins, I go home from work in 13mins i might miss some of it... come on Nintendo do a Sony and be a bit late or at least don't let there be traffic so i get home in 10 mins
God what a terrible E3. Prerendered videos, incredibly boring games, and unimpressive content for those games that actually seem good (Skyrim). And what's up with controllers that you have to SWING around like a fucking idiot to get your character to do stuff on the screen? Does anyone actually want that? At all?
But at least they put the nail in the coffin in Mass Effect 3. After the terrible second installment I'm done with that series, and from the looks of it most people will be after the third.

That made sense in the DS, that doesn't make sense here. Why would I want to squint down onto a little screen for inventory instead of having it displayed on what I am looking at? Also, it isn't like the DS in that the two screens aren't going to be aligned for you to view easily.

How the hell am I supposed to play Smash on that controller without breaking it in a few days lol. I mean.......I wore out so many controllers just because of Melee, and those don't even have screens on them. Since it's backwards compatible, hopefully it can use Gamecube controllers still on some titles.

The console is the handheld, and it can be hooked up to an HDTV?
How do you play a FPS with only 2 triggers and 4 face buttons?
Why would people want to have a HD game on a tiny touchscreen?
The console is a console, the controller is a controller with a touchscreen that you can also use to play a game if you change the TV input to watch say a ball game. But the console determines all the power that the controller has in terms of graphics. It's transferred via WiFi.
The same as you would on the PS3 or 360, that is to say gimped and watered down.
all the games running were probably not running on the wiiu but were stock footage from a pc or other console. so i think the next big question is how good are the visuals because im absolutely sold on the controller.
But i like BIG controllers, my favorite controller ever was the original xbox behemoths. but i have very large hands so i can see some concern but they have to consider kids so i dont think the controls will be to hard to handle for most people.

I don't like this at all personally, much as I was anti-wii when that came out, I thought it was a brilliantly placed product. This though looks really confused in distinguishing itself, and the gimmick they have this time in the controller feels weak as hell.
On June 08 2011 02:26 covote wrote: this will be expensive, and extra controllers will probably be $100 or more, and i dont remember seeing a single game that used two big controllers.
That's what I'm afraid of, but as long as I can use the Wiimote and the GameCube controllers on most games without missing a beat, I'll be happy.
The GPU is supposed to be based on the R700 from AMD, so I'm I'm not mistaken we're talking about 4650-4850 in terms of PC talk. Decent but not very powerful either given current tech. But let's remember too it's coming out 5 years after the other consoles and it's marginally more powerful. That could be a good thing, it will keep costs low while maintaining pace with both M$ and Sony.
I still do think that it isn't anything special given that it isn't pushing the limit on technology outside of the controller and connectivity. We're kind of talking about a 6 year old computer type of spec here.
On June 08 2011 02:26 covote wrote: this will be expensive, and extra controllers will probably be $100 or more, and i remember seeing a single game that used two big controllers.
I doubt it'll be that expensive, and they'll definitely subsidize a second controller in the way they did w/ WiiPlay, that and Wiimotes being forward compatible should handle most of the issues on the controller front.
Lots of the things presented went way over peoples heads. Here's an example. Why buy an iPad, it doesn't do nearly as much as a computer. Why buy an iPod, I already have a CD player. Why buy an iPhone, I already have a phone.
Incase no one has watched any movies from the past 40 years, touch screens, and multiple screens are the future. Any people here with more than one monitor for their computer? Would people use an LCD keyboard?
Nintendo won the motion controller battle. Will they win the multiple screen battle?

I back this. Casual crap and these new console things look retarded.
I don't find that console appealing at all. It just looks overly buffed with pointless utility. The smaller screen on your controller looks and sounds cool, but it would feel annoying and make gaming awkward (looking down and up, down and up).

I'd love to have a flat touch keyboard that wouldn't take up much real estate. And given technology it could probably be smaller too since you could hide the number pad, arrow keys, Pg Up, etc and just have one touch control on when to access them. Plus customizable layouts, so more ergonomic or more standard.
Why the fuck hasn't this become standard yet? Seriously.
Yes i agree that the graphics will not but next gen, but i don't need or care about ultra realism i just want great gameplay and great stories, this should be able to offer that with PS3 comparable graphics to boot. sounds great.

"JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" lol
j/k I love Nintendo and even though I personally haven't touched my Wii in over a year (my PS3 on the other hand...) I like both it and the new system and think it'll probably do really well. The controller does seem a bit unwieldy but the return to a two-hand, sit-down-and-play design really opens the door for some good, quality games for people who like video games ("hardcore").
Here's hoping the price is low because I'm leaning mostly towards getting a really good PC as my gaming investment in the next 2 years.

You didn't expect they to actually answer those questions I hope. Whatever answers they could've given were unlikely to be favorable, so no point saying it early. It was a good presentation in that they controlled the agenda relatively well and avoided most of what they wanted to leave unsaid, but predictable and disappointing because of it.
As for excitement...I guess the PSP Vita has me most interested.

Well you sure could play wii on a high level but the controller is not precise enough so you can trust it. Oh okay, fair enough.
I do believe you could use the GameCube controllers with the Wii, or hold the Wii controllers horizontally (in the traditional, non- nunchuk position) if you have trouble with precision. I've solved any accuracy problems with intense games by using those methods.
Looks like Nintendo got most of the big shocks out of the way this e3, touch screen controller and the name. The footage of the third party sizzle reel seemed to be running on something different, since the quality was much less than the Zelda demo. The Zelda demo looked breathtaking, better than anything on PS3, which is nice (but it is still a tech demo, who knows what actual games will look like).
Next e3 Nintendo will probably pull out all the stops and announce all their games then for the launch window.
My main concern for the Wii U is how comfortable that controller will be to use. The features are nice, but it looks rather bulky and awkward. Since Nintendo is really emphasizing the controller, it better feel completely natural to use.

For a console to have the ability to be for hardcore competitive gamers, its controller system needs to be as precise as possible. The wii controller system is cool, but you can't do things as quickly and precisely as you can with a standard analog controller. It has fun games, but not competitive games.
I don't actually think that the controller will be that awkward. For reference, and iPad is an 11 inch screen, and holding it with two hands is actually very comfortable.

yeah, the only doubts I have are because you need to hold it near the top and the weight that that will bring with it, but they've probably thought it through

I'm pretty sure I recall hearing it was tri-core CPU with clockspeeds of 3.8 GHz. To compare, the 360 has a tricore 3.2 GHz setup.
Also, Microsoft has said they want to continue the 360 until 2015, so I think there is a window for Nintendo to steal us all back.

The xbox 720 and ps4 will get raped by PC's, and that doesn't stop them from coming out with their systems. The PC also get's every single game that the xbox and ps get. Your theory is flawed. Nintendo upgraded the hardware, because there currently is no reason not to. Widescreen hq televisions are common now (compared to hq and bluescreen years ago). Graphics don't make a game hardcore. I'll have to disagree with the shooters on the wiipad.
If my photoshop skills were good I would put how a sight zoom would look awesome when playing COD or any FPS... maybe on MultiPplayer you will get tired after playing 2 hours but what I like the most is that the feeling of holding a weapon will be better because it's heavier.

The PC will always be ahead of any console ever made simply because it has constant flow of new hardware that replaces all outdated ones. Consoles are made for a more specific gaming/entertainment experience. They are also meant to attract the large amount of gaming crowd that prefer a joystick or rather are not able to spend 1000 USD on a super rig. Nintendo is playing catchup yeah, but it doesn't really matter as long as they have the software to back it up. So I think Nintendo has a good chance to bring in some PS3 and 360 owners but it will require a good price point and a solid stream of 3rd party support.
I love Nintendo games. Since I own most consoles, I don't really care about 3rd party ports since I can play them on other systems (although some 3rd party exclusives would be cool). The problem with the wii is that it looks absolutely terrible on my TV. Not just subpar compared with my ps3/360/PC, but terrible.
Wii-U will fix that. I don't really care if games look amazing, they just need to be passable, and it will be that 5 years download the line (10 will be pushing it). It will provide some cool new experiences so it will be more than worth the purchase unless it's outrageously expensive.

There is no point in having super rigs. You can easily build one for $600-700 and run everything on high to perfect settings. You can slowly upgrade it as needed. No reason to pay over $200 for a new graphics card/CPU/motherboard. Super rigs are just luxury items.
PC parts have came down in price and you don't need the brand new things. Why buy a 6970 when radeons 5770 will do just fine. Why buy an i7? A phenom x4 will do great.
The only pros I see for console is: - friends/family can play on the same station - motion games (casual favorite)
Xbox and ps are just as expensive when you add in the extras. 250gb hdd, kinect, multiple controllers, online subscription (xbox), rockband/guitar hero accessories. The thing is. They can only do 10% of what a pc can do.
Same reason I won't buy a tablet. My laptop> any tablet and my iPhone is the same thing but smaller.
Just not a fan, even with hardware upgrades. My rig > the value of playing consoles.
Dunno what to say about the wii u.. I can only wait for what games come out. Nintendo has lots of experience with dual screen setups since they have had the ds for so long but I will be dissapointed if game developers only use the second screen for maps and inventory instead of really innovating.
I doubt the controller will feel that bulky. People got used to having the wiimote and nunchuck being further apart then a normal controller and the old wiimotes will be compatible with the wii U so i cant see it being a problem.
Im actually glad that nintendo genuinely cares about backwards compatability. After sony ditched ps2 support on ps3 and is only allowing digital psp games on the pspvita I will gladly take what nintendo gives with its 3ds and wiiu
I just got back from the convention not too long ago, I'll write my report tomorrow since today wasn't really a noteworthy day of trying anything insane

Seriously.

I disagree. From what I've heard, the Wii U is a definite leap in hardware performance compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the controllers have a TON of gameplay potential. Also, I heard that Nintendo is planning on making third-party development easier on the Wii U, which will encourage more developers to port games to the Wii U.
Also, it seems that EA is planning on making/porting a Battlefield game onto the Wii U. Considering how amazing BF3 had looked at E3, I think this is a fantastic move, especially since a BF3 port would look downright gorgeous on the Wii U.
The only thing I'm worried about is if the Wii U is entering the market too early and possibly with too many weak gimmicks. If Sony and Microsoft announce new consoles next year, Nintendo will inevitably fall behind in the console race unless they've acquired solid developer support and have comparable hardware. Otherwise, I'm worried about a second Dreamcast fiasco.
impressions so far: - battlefield 3 looks better than I thought (didnt think i'd ever be impressed by single player stuff from it, but that tank battle was pretty cool) - wii U looks dumb (AND HOW MUCH WILL CONTROLLERS COST? LIKE 100$?) - vita looks way less lame that I thought it'd be - ninja gaiden 3 looks awful - brothers in arms 4 makes me want to cry and wake up from this nightmare - far cry 3 demo was pretty underwhelming but good news that it exists i guess - uncharted 3 looks pretty slick as expected - really sad that there's no MGS rising or last guardian at all - twisted metal boss battle looks awesome, new version of sweet tooth also awesome - gotham city imposters looks dumb - arkham city really cant hold my interest at all :\. the beat-em-up stuff is all theyre showing of it and that stuff is just as horrible as it was before - it's hard to find more than 60 straight seconds of gameplay of operation raccoon city, but i THINK it looks cool? - I wish there was more coverage of dragon's dogma. that game looks dope
I also really wish I could see some new footage of bioshock infinite and any footage of the new hitman. the write-ups about them at gamesites make them seem really cool, but that doesnt mean anything unless I can actually see it myself :\

In fact no one has given the qualities of a hardcore game.
Yes, thats true. It all comes to a matter of preference in the end.
Dunno if that means Wii U (god what a stupid name.. Nintendo U wouldn't even be so bad) or much much later. I think MS expects Kinect to extend the 360 life cycle for a few years and PS3 was supposed to have a 10 year life cycle so we could be in for quite a wait.

Following that at 4:30PM PST on the same stream a Q&A with DICE on Battlefield 3.
Make sure to ask some good hard hitting questions if you want. It's a chance to interact with the people designing the game and potentially getting your voice heard in the grand scope of things about the direction that the game is going.

A hardcore game is a game that caters to hardcore gamers.
Qualities of a hardcore game: * High quality graphics
* Typically rated Teen or Mature for realistic violence/gore, sexual themes
* Hard to master
* Highly competitive
* Great online support
* Tons of achievements/trophies/secrets to earn/collect/unlock

I lol'd really hard.
Graphics don't matter, rating doesn't matter (ahahahah), and good achievements are just like the other two in where they're window dressing that makes a game appear to be fun when it actually has little depth.
Quake has stats and even achievements now and no one gives a shit. The game could barely pick up a T rating with most people's settings too.

ROFLMAO. Hardcore games are an imaginary term made by gamers with a superiority complex over so called casual gamers. Because in their eyes there are only 2 kinds of gamers one that plays nintendogs and others that only play cod. Completely ridiculous.
The reality is that the vast majority of self proclaimed hardcore gamers arent remotely competitive at the games they play. They just play them alot like wow addicts. SC2 is a supposed hardcore game but half the server population is bronze. So hardcore.. .. .

No, Starcraft 2 is supposed to cater to both hardcore gamers and casual gamers. Something it does exceptionally well.
@Leto: You're way off on what constitutes a hardcore game. Basically out of the things you listed only "Hard to master" and "Highly competitive" (doesn't need to be multiplayer, btw) are true.

You dont get it. If it caters to hardcore and casual then it cant be a hardcore game. Thats why hardcore gamers are a paradox and arent a real demographic. "Hardcore gamers" are just people that play alot of games or spend alot of time playing games. There isnt anything special about those games that make them hardcore.
A HD 3D remake of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Talk about awesome news! Also the perfect news to hide the fact that there is no news on The Last Guardian.

So you would call somebody who spend allot of time playing facebook games hardcore, and somebody who plays 3-4h of competitive games, or more complex games like space rangers 2 a week a casual?
I think that casual should rather refer to somebody who plays in a casual way, who wants easy games, without wanting to put any effort into learning more complex game rather then based on how much somebody plays.

Oh really ? Then explain me how farmville and those shits have around 50.000.000 active users each month.
And explain how many of my friends, and many of yours, and probably yourself, are playing those freaking facebook games, or the unicorn game, or flash games at newgrounds, that are not hardcore at all... but we just seem to like them... and some of them we actually keep playing.
God's forsake me if I ever play another facebook game again, but I did it once.
So is it just me who thinks this years E3 was fucking boring?
Games that have my attention
Alice: Madness Returns (not because it looks amazing but because the first one was one of the best games ever made) Bioshock Infinite. (What other shooter tries anything new?) Mass Effect 3. (Fuck yeah. It'll probably be even dumber than the second but sadly they're still the best at what they do) New Silent Hill. (Finally looks like a silent hill game of old, but I'm modestly hyped at most since the last games in the line sucked ass) EDIT: Forget these because there's hardly any information about them Hitman. Oblivion 5. (Yes these are good games but in all honesty they're more Lonely Island games that you can play forever but are never the best at anything they do, they just do so much. Although the Assassin guild in Oblivion 4 was one of the best RPG experiences ever. I just wish they add romance option however shallow it is, no interaction with NCPs kill the immersion)
Anything Nintendo did was the same old games and game ideas, why can't they try anything new? Mass Effect is a new franchise and it was amazing, who the hell said Super Mario must be the epicenter of platforming? Why not make something even better or atleast try?!

Shooters that stray from the COD-likes normally fail because that's what consumers want just look at games like Brink.

Hope so as well, i can tell few good things from the trailer already ( http://www.playneverwinter.com/splash?redir=frontpage ) , the fact that it got D&D system as always is good enought to have faith in this game, they worked on cool graphics as well, you can see 3rd personal few from Trailer, and i know they'll put as always Strategy and Explorer views. I hope they'll work hard on a story and some replays value as well. Class system from D&D is pretttty good, so dont worry about Neverwinter !
this year's E3 wasnt the best for us normal folks. a lot of the games offered "way cooler" looks at their game only to the press behind closed doors. bioshock infinite still looks awesome from the last gameplay demo, and the press really talked it up during E3, but we still didnt get to see much outside of a 90 second trailer.
some games that i learned about during the show that look cool (or learned that now they look cool):
the new hitman (although this is based only off of previews, which is lame) ghost recon future soldier prey 2 (although this is based only off of previews, which is lame) sound shapes
lots of games disappointed me a whole lot with their showing:
ninja gaiden 3 (take everything away from what made the 1st 2 games fun and replace with quick time events) far cry 3 (im glad its coming but the demo was really lame and didnt really show what real gameplay will be like at all unless real gameplay is just a bunch of quick time events) tomb raider (I heard what they showed the press was really cool, but the demo they showed everyone else was pretty lame) gears 3 (just a really lame demo tbh) arkham city (the gameplay i saw of it was just the beat-em-up parts that were the worst parts of the 1st game. cat woman is a different character but you still just mash 1 button to kill endless dudes).
uncharted 3, BF3, and twisted metal (most people wont care too much about this title but i LOVE TM games) were probably the best looking games at the show to me. I really wanted dragon's dogma to blow me away but it looked pretty rough still. hopefully that game will come around later.
man, almost no new interesting IPs at this year's show. there were probably more franchise reboots (twisted metal, tomb raider, etc) than original IPs that got a lot of attention at the show lol.
