Hell can be completed single player with pretty much every build, it just takes a lot of patience :p Used to belong to a single player community, the stuff you'd see there... Today it's just as much about what we used to call 'bnettish' behaviour; high rune finding and whatnot. A couple of months back I heard there was the first legit sp last wish, some of these guys play rather a lot. In 1.11 I made a self found enigma, so I suppose I'm not entirely clean in that respect either But anyways, there were and are still people who do the craziest stuff, like making naked guardians, doing the strangest builds (Psychic hammerdin?), just weird stuff... There have been a dozen or so sp 99ers, people did 100k AT or pit runs, I know a guy who found every item in the game twice, in HC. It's still a great place to be, check it out if you've got the inclination but not the desire to put up with the mindless bnet hordes By patience you mean rely on your merc. Don't even try to pretend otherwise. Its not possible to beat hell solo with a great many builds without letting Asif or Shizmal do his thing for 70% of the time. Depends on which builds you're talking about of course, potion throwing sins will of course have some issues :p But fire druids, summoning druids, melee sorcs, warcry barbs, bow barbs, throw barbs have been done, and while a mercenary is an integral part of the character you can't really rely on him/her to do everything. Most standard builds are rather doable, some melee builds requiring to find a nice weapon somewhere, but there are cube recipes (for savage polearms for example), which help immensely. Patience usually means separating monsters from groups and killing them one at a time. Oh and pardon me being rather anal, I don't like being so but there is a lot of skill involved in d2 and it's not acquired by rushing chars, playing in groups and having duped gear :x If you're playing HC solo without any extra items, you'll need to find your own way, and while you'll probably die horribly on the first 5 tries, but after that you'll get more careful and find that way :p
I played HC with my Bowazon (dont wanna talk about my experiences in Diabl universe here.lets say im one of the most hardcore player) but still what bow or what method do you use against hell Diablo ? my decoy went down in 1sec, Valk in 2sec, Merc ? 0.1sec that left only myself running around dodging his lightning hadoken, claws and fissure then came the bone prison which pretty hard to destroy as bowazon.
by the time that was my pots are pretty much dissipated and Diablo hp didnt even went lower then 90% iirc

change of equip!
Diablo does not do any damage with his lightning hose attack when you stand directly in front of him.
So put on a shield and some amazon javelin and jab away, equip goblin toes and you are set.
That was easy, huh? Learn to distinguish between the animations for the flame wave (which does damage, and you need to sidestep) and the lightning one, which can be ignored.
You might want not too many points in the passive dodging skills, otherwise, you will end up in dodge lock.

er... i know that trick.

All of this Diablo talk has made me consider downloading d2 classic and trying to get past act 1 nightmare (I played sp when I was 12, then lost the discs >_<).
Is the game actually a serious challenge if you get together a group and go from act 1 normal - act 4 hell as quickly as possible without trying to farm / buy items / powerlevel? I really want to try that now :D

OMG good old diablo2. IMO the best pvm character is summon necro. If you can get an enigma, you are a god in soloing. With proper build you can kill anything and every area. literally. Skellies and corpse explosion for monsters, crushing blow merc and clay golem+decrepify for bosses. EZ, you can even beat the game naked if you are into stuff like that
|
@MrProb: Diablo is one of the most difficult bosses, he and Duriel :p I don't know his stats as I've never run him, not worth it without a hammerdin and that I found the most boring character of all time :p I suppose you could level/gear your mercenary up before you confront him, or if you're only doing areas once, I suppose you get some cold damage or slow on, or use poison damage as a kind of 'prevent monster heal', then try to name-lock him. Prepare to run a lot and get some tps as you'll be needing potions :p
My first zon, lf/pj vs diablo and baal, those were epic struggles... I didn't know about cs yet, so I had to use pj to kill them, lf didn't work of course. I ran a lot :p
@Rimstalker: D/A/E won't get you in trouble with diablo I suppose :p And it's not as bad as everyone says it is; I tried a fendazon, both with and without D/A/E, with you'd get a valk naturally, and between merc, valk and decoy you won't get hit too much anyway.
@Oosgmagoosh: Never played classic, but if you get 4 people to play, it should be a breeze :p

#1. Fire Druids are one of the strongest PvE builds for soloing.
#2. A list of popular builds that need a merc to do a ton of dirty work: Javazon, Trapsin, All Sorcs (A tri-Sorc is only viable in elite level gear), FOH Paladins. There are, of course, a litany of crappy builds that do even more.

Success! I have convinced my roommate and good buddy to buy this game instead of some shitty 60 dollar xbox game. WOOOOOO
Hes currently running around as a lvl 1 assassin having a great deal of fun....he has no idea.

Reign of Shadow, its a mod for D2, based off 1.10 (unfortunately) and has lots of extra stuff in game, items and zones etc. Its pretty easy however, lvl 97 sorc in under a week, doing 15k blizzards heh.
Fairly small community tho, and mostly german. Its kinda boring playing without a couple friends.

saying 1.10 reminds me of some of my 1.08 items i had back in the day lol some OP uniques heh

RoS is as easy as you want it to be.
Yes, you can pindle yourself to level 98 in one day. Which makes it convenient to try out new chars.
Take your 15k blizzards to this guy and see how many 10ths of a second you survive.

Well i obviously havent scratched the surface of this game, a lot to learn.
|
just started playing d2:lod again with some friends, lvl 25 bone necro. Quite fun
|
I played HC ladder seriously once upon a time...Bone Spear + CE spam necro with synergies in a maxed bone prison make it kind of a joke. Got up to level 87 before I got bored of the grind. Didn't really have that swell of gear, but then you didn't really need it anyway.

just about any char with nigma is really good as it can tele for movement
best pvm is a hammerdin, even with out a nigma armor, he can still do tons of damage but needs to learn to position his hammers and such
mine does about 9k max dmg, with +9 to skills
only thing you cant kill are immune to magic, which your merc + your concentration aura destroys, or i use holy bolt or smite
