Messi still needs to win a World Cup to truly constest the title of best ever but he's right up there in terms of talent and achievement in club football.

Messi is good, yet the game was decided by the referee. What an a-hole. Can't they get some decent refs for the CL?

I'd love to see anyone try to do a better job. Madrid - Barcelona must be an absolute nightmare to control. He has, in my opinion, done a pretty good job at an impossible task.

I think it would be interesting to see Howard Webb ref this match...
With an average game length of 7m36s over his 6 games in GSL3, this is a no-brainer. BitByBit pulls more SCVs than yo momma at a club on Mar Sara. ♞

Yeh and one of the teams should put Nigel de Jong in the field then, would be entertaining.

Yeah referee did a good job considering how much diving and faults going on by both teams.

The red card was correct, and playing so defensive against barca in first leg, on homecourt is far from a brilliant strategy.

@Spinfuzor
It does not matter where the foul was. Mourinho told Pepe to do basically the same thing he did in the Copa del Rey: to stop Barcelona creation from the midfield with fouls and rough play. That is not being comfortable, that is playing on the edge.

@Airship

Please explain to me two things:

1) How/why dyou get a red card if you are "defending comfortably"

2) How you score a goal without having the ball in your possession (no ridiculous answer such as "own goal" plz)

Why do you need to win a World Cup to be called on of the best players ever? Some amazing players will never ever have a chance to win a World Cup with their country cause their team is not good enough/doesn't work as a team. Not entirely Messi's fault Argentina didn't win last World Cup :D

edit: And regarding the red card for Pepe. If the ref thinks this was intentional by Pepe it was definitely a red card. Considering Pepe is an a-hole, you might think that it was

Pepe has been playing as a midfielder against Barca. Albiol and Ramos were the CBs.

They won the copa del rey though.

edit: That and one tackle does not tell the whole story of how the game is going does it ?

Yep, I'm going to have to agree with Airship here. Playing a defensive player in mid-field does not suddenly mean a side is 'playing on the edge'.

This game was pretty disappointing, apart from Messi.

The tackle gets worse and worse every time its brought up. Watch it again.

One foot, going for the ball, for the most part kept his studs down. Take a look at all the barca fans saying red , and everyone else saying yellow.

The ref has ruined the game, having said that they were 2 fantastic goals to watch.

P.S. I taught Messi how to dribble

Pepe deserves every red card he ever gets, simple as that. :D

After the initial blame on ref or some decisions, the blame in the spanish media will switch to Mourinho who utterly and totally got his tactics wrong.

Managers have been fired for winning titles in a boring fashion, he aint going to win anything but the meaningless cup and face exit because he decided to park the bus and hop for a fluke goal at home. For Real Madrid that is a digrace

He ****** up in a major way, and is the sole reason why they lost

The most controversial thing was not the red card, but the lack of one when Ade went crazy and pushed the guy head on
