Yeah, just got it working. Got to level 4 today. I'm absolutely terrible, but I still place high in the losing team. I mostly do TDM and to be honest, I still can't ski properly and when I do, I can't turn much or anything. The game feels wrong when I play D:

Friendly tip, play CTF You have clear objectives and is much more fun!

Yeah, I feel TDM is cruel as hell. Get Flag and then the enemy loses 2x life?
wtf D:<
I'll try CTF, but I don't have all the classes unlocked at all. I hate pathfinder, but soldier is even more brutal and the bigger guy is not fun for me.

Soldier/raider/sentinel are the best all rounders. Infiltrator has its place in capping and pretty much everything else isn't used in competitive play. As for pubs well...pretty much everything works.
I'm looking for the class that would be the most suitable to accomplish alone in Pub games (for now). What's the difference between raider and sentinel and solider exactly?

Well its mostly used to chase and cap, not really kill people. Raider is mostly offense due to the crazy combo of shield pack+smg and the whiteouts/grenade launcher are amazing for clearing. Whiteouts can also be used to boost yourself :D. Soldier is pretty much the home D class, they exist to stop base camps/help hurt cappers. Basically a defensive raider. Sentinel is a sniper, and if you get the falcon auto pistol it can defend itself as well.
In TDM your best bet is raider, soldier is a close second though.
Torte, whiteout grenade is the 2nd grenade available to the raider class, its kind of like a flash bang but has a high impact force good for self propelling yourself or knocking defenders away from a flag. The Spinfusor, the second gun available to soldier, is the iconic weapon of the tribes franchise. It's basically a rocket launcher. The projectile travels a little slower than the ThumperDX but it travels in a straight line making it easier to get used to. Though ultimately I have to say that I prefer the thumper because once I got used to the arc, the faster projectile means I dont have to think as hard about leading/predicting the target.
I'm a beginner too, but I've been playing beta for about a month now and I feel like I've got the hang of it enough that I consistently have fun, even if I don't frequently do better than just breaking even on kills/deaths.
If you dont have the hang of skiing yet I highly recommend this short youtube video, its very well done and just covers the basics.
If you are having trouble with your shooting I recommend just focusing on using your explosive weapon and trying to catch people in close range when they are falling to the ground after expending their jet pack energy. At long range just use your bullet weapon to try and wear them down a bit. As you get more and more comfortable with your explosive weapon you can start engaging with it at longer and longer ranges. This is what worked for me anyway!
can I still do what the video does with the second main weapon of the pathfinder? I think I'll stick with pathfinder, speed has always been my thing and it looks like he moves just like soldier in tf2 or in quake live rockets.
The bolt launcher? (looks like a cross bow?) yeah you can but im pretty sure the bolt launcher does more damage per hit than the light spinfusor so you'll be hurting yourself more.
You can also use your grenade (the impact nitron) the same way, it does almost no damage (like 90 damage) but has high knockback force and explodes as soon as it hits a surface. Just dont use it when carrying a flag because it causes anyone hit to drop the flag.
You can also choose to unlock the Thrust pack which gives you a burst of forward momentum, but it uses like half your energy bar when you hit it. Not to mention the default pack you would be replacing increases your continuous energy regeneration rate.
Bolt launcher can do up to 900 damage with a single hit i think, so I don't know. Maybe if you hit it at a certain distance away from you... I honestly don't rocket jump very often because I mostly play TDM

Pathfinder is used competitively as a capper on bella and kata mostly because of hos easy it is to not get sniped on those maps. Some teams also use pathfinder for chase because of nitrons.
I also enjoy wrecking pubs by playing LD with it. The lights think its such a good idea to fly at the flag with me standing on it, only to get a bolt to the face. So much fun.
Anything works on pubs really, I find myself messing around with brute pretty often and still find myself around the top scores. The mid-air-spinfusor-to-face feeling is just so awesome not to play class without spinfusor.
Getting few good perks like survivalist, egocentric etc is good idea what to buy first. You can try all classes against bots to see if there's something you really like, before committing to single class and upgrading everything for him.
