Anything without an automatic weapon (referred to as chainguns by vets, includes smgs and other rapid fire weapons) is pretty much useless but can be fun from time to time. I dunno, I'm starting to manage pretty reliable 100m spinfusor shots on people going over 100. Best is a planned direct hit at 384m. I know you're playing a lot of comp stuff cori and I suppose when everyone is getting massive constant air it'd be a lot more rapid fire favoured, but I wouldn't underestimate how reliable the explosive weapons can be if you practice your ass off with them. my soldier loadout is spinfusor/thumper, more for fun than serious play, but it's surprisingly effective. Again perhaps not well suited for high level play, but beginners aren't playing comp play and mastering projectile guns is a core skill for good tribes play, even if it isn't used that much in comp atm you still have to be damn good. Besides, it rewards a more cerebral style of play I'm attracted to and that I think a lot of people will come to the game wanting to experience. Being able to predict complex trajectory intersections is damn hard but incredibly rewarding when you pull it off. Rapid fire guns need just as much skill, but it's more just practice than really having to think and calculate on anything but seriously long range shots. Well pretty much every class that has a chaingun also has an explosive weapon. The only exception is the tech (if you don't upgrade it anyways) and the doombringer. Explosive weapons are certainly good, just not when they're flying.

Holy shit it's hard to snipe people in this game. The sentinel secondary pistol is fucking amazing though. 350 damage each shot? Aww yeahh. Feels like the Sniper is pretty bad though. It only does 500 damage if fully charged, and feels very unreliable. I've only tried it in TDM though, might be easier in other game modes/on other maps.

How are people getting on with Sentinel (sniper) in this game? Ive been trying to play really low sens (currently deathadder 450dpi accel disabled with 4 ingame sens) in order to make it easier to hit targets, but i cant really see it working out much lower sens because i have to lift my mouse off pad (qck+ 45x40cm) multiple times to make a 180 degree turn cleanly, yet i still have a lot of trouble hitting fast moving targets at longer ranges, is it best to just accept that you cant hit literally across the entire map and try to focus on getting good positions etc to hit at lower ranges, or focus skill development on landing hits while skiing etc? Im pretty new to the game and not really sure how to play as Sentinel though i usually have the most kills in the team and more often than not am the one killing enemy that took our flag etc

I found the opposite, i havnt actuly managed to hit anything more than once maybe twice with the pistol because shots just bounce off them or the ground (how do you make it hit?) but the primary weapon allowing you to two-shot light classes from basically the entire map is extremely powerful. 5-shot on juggernauts etc takes a little while but they cant fight back if you engage them properly and you can either kill them or force them off the map. Im not sure of any map names but it seems very powerful on most if not all of them so far.

tip for you guys
all the good sentinels use the SMG secondary because well.. smg's are kinda OP in this game
secondly, the phase rifle is currently bugged so you can rapid fire full dmg every shot
---
Without the bug, it's still the best uhm.. "chaser" in the game if your aim doesn't suck (using the BXT1)
It's the only class that doesn't have to worry about hitting 250+ before killing a capper

Nova blaster while hitting like a truck is not the easiest weapon to hit with either. If you've already hit someone once or twice with your rifle he probably doesn't have much hp left, blaster can be overkill / takes slower to finish if you don't hit right away, instead your smg should be pretty fast way to finish off low hp enemy.
As for the rifle, phaser is the superior to the BTX in every way(you can no-scope with it unlike BTX which does 10dmg) however it's pretty costly now but there's some talk all the 170k weapons should get their price reduced at one point.

Doesnt the SMG cost 170k exp? That will take me many weeks to get playing a few hours a day.

no it's not, the btx is better by miles without the bug

Sentinel is one of the most powerful classes in the game right now. I can do about a 360 ingame over the size (left->right) of my mousepad, which is about the same size as yours. If you are missing with the nova pistol, you need to lead your shot less or more. It depends on your ping heavily, keep that in mind. You can literally duel people all day with sniper.

I have been thinking about getting this game. How hard is it to get to a level where you can acually do something to help out the team and do people get mad if you are bad? Also does anyone know of a good guide or tips for someone who has never played before?

Nobody really chats ever, half the team doesnt know what the hell they are doing (standard FPS PUG), and you can just leave and start a new game with instant queue and no penalty if stuff goes wrong, might as well pick up a beta key from their facebook or from a friend (everybody gets 2 as far as i know) and try it out. Im not sure about guides etc, but you should be able to be a big influence on match outcome if you are half decent at the game and know what you are doing with your class etc which comes pretty easily if you learn the very basics and are smart about playing (instead of general console player omgkillthatdude mindset with fps)

There are certain roles you can play where you can help your team no matter what level you are. You just won't be as good at it as someone else. There are many many bad people so "good" people will just say at the end of the game "my team sucks blah blah im a faggot" etc.
My tip to you would be to figure out how to ski and jetpack properly, and then the game is a lot of fun. If you have any questions I'm sure people can help you here.
It shouldn't take too long before you can really help out your team, but don't expect them to help you out

The gold:XP ratio on the costs varies between types of upgrades. A perk is 160 gold or 18000 XP (1:112 ratio) while a weapon might be 780 gold or 170000 XP (1:218). If you play 2 hours a day getting the win bonus every day, that's about a month to farm the weapon. They should just reduce the XP cost on the weapons and packs/grenades to match the perks. The way it is now you need 3.8 million XP to unlock everything, this would probably bring it down to around 2.5M. To provide some context, in 3 months of VIP play at around the aforementioned 2 hours a day I managed to get just over 1M XP.
My advice on unlocking is to get all the classes and armor/pack upgrades right away since they are quite cheap. Then get some of the secondary slot perks since they actually are a good upgrade over the +10 energy one unlike primary perks. Egocentric, Potential Energy and Survivalist are probably the most versatile. After that buy the biggest upgrades for weapons/grenades/packs for the classes that you play the most. For example, you don't really need a better sidearm as a sniper but you do need the rifle for the pathfinder if you want to chase. You need mines to defend as doombringer but you don't need the alternative grenade for the soldier.
If you're going to call OP on something it's a bit silly to list half of the classes in the game. There are a lot of nice synergies now. Brute/raider with the shield pack and potential energy perk means you are constantly generating new energy to shield yourself by getting shot at. Doombringer with the Looter perk can plant mines on the flag and recover a mine from everyone that dies at the stand. The mines are kind of funny too since on katabatic they bury themselves in the snow on the stand and become completely invisible. They also give you midair awards, so enjoy that until it gets fixed. No, it's not silly at all. It's not a good design philosophy to balance the game by making everyone overpowered.
Sure it is, most of the best games, including Brood War, are balanced more around "Everyone is OP" than the opposite. When you balance the other way you end up with a bland vanilla-y game (see League of Legends)

Pretty sure mortar and raider nades are at 0. If you ski down the kata hill and fire it straight upwards it lands about right where you pulled the trigger.

ok i havent read anything but the OP so this game is played CTF in leagues and with like 16v16??? no smaller teams? and is it just me or are the upgrades ridiculous expansive?

Oh man my team's website is amazing. Even if its completely not serious and more of a troll than anything else.

Jeez Coriolis, for a pro clan, you ought to have some self-awareness!
JK, it's a start. Except for the photos. And the video. And the everything.

Wouldn't really call us a pro clan, or anyone for that matter. Its just something we do because its fun and we enjoy competition for the most part. It really isn't serious at all right now, at least not compared to starcraft.
Stack n Haq (buffshrikes in TA) probably takes it more serious than anyone else, and it shows.

If you were to buy every class is it just as much as any other triple A title or is it more money? I'd like to be able to just straight up buy the game for something like $60.00 and have all the classes. Of course they could still sell them and experience boosts.
