maybe stupid questions but their forum doesnt exactly give much information...
I just save up to 10,000k then do orbital strike for fun most of the time I have no idea how to use vehicles, not really interested in them right now. Energy pack just gives you extra energy so you can fly more I believe. Assist means you just damaged the guy and someone else killed him, not sure of the exact % you must do, or how long till he dies and you still get an assist. I don't think ranks matter.

ok, i was doing really good getting 1st literally every time i play, now it put me with ppl lvls 10-14 (i'm 6) and some really odd stuff is happening...i'm getting killed way faster and it's taking me 3 shots with a spinfuser to take out a ranger (who did not regen any hp).
is soldier like shit now and i need to save up to get a new class? like everyone is pathfinder in my games it seems...and it seems their dmg is on par with mine and they are faster/have better secondary than me >.>

Once they get this in, it's going to MASSIVELY change the way people play, especially those who never played Tribes before Ascend. As of now, if you're an average Quake player, you can rape with the spinfusor without even trying. I rarely get midair discs in Tribes 2, but I can easily hit them in Ascend just because of the lack of inheritance.
is soldier like shit now and i need to save up to get a new class? No, just learn how to lead shots and you're OP. Soldier spinfusor is probably one of the most broken weapons in the game right now.

Soldier is pretty strong, maybe the people are getting better at dodging your shots and they are definitely better at aiming. I highly suggest playing CTF, it's much more rewarding and fun when you get a nice close game! Just pick a role/position to play and go for it.

Could it possibly be I'm fighting people with all the perks and I don't have them all? (More HP, Energy, etc etc).
I also feel like some people have WAY more energy than me, when I'm in a dogfight with someone almost always they have more pack than I do as they can go way higher than me for a longer amount of time, even when I was at full when the fight began (was strafing around etc only using it up upwards ramps) and although most of the time I kill them before they kill me, they just fly what seems like way longer than I can.

The spinfusor has the highest skill threshold of any weapon in the game. In the hands of someone who can aim it properly, it's the most devastating weapon in the game, bar none. It's also the most rewarding weapon to use in Tribes.

The perks don't really matter much. I just started playing frequently and have minimal perks on my classes. It's not really stopping me from being towards the top of the chart points-wise in most every game.
Here's your issue: Tribes is HARD. This isn't a game that you can just pick up and do well in right off the bat. You have to learn proper skiing, map routes, and energy management ... all before you even think about learning how to shoot people while moving at 100-150 k/h. I learned all of this in previous Tribes games, so I'm way ahead of most players. Players who are new to Tribes are going to face a very steep learning curve. That said, I strongly recommend that you stick with it. This game is very fun.

Am I crazy or? The netcode in this game isn't the greatest, so maybe you are just barely glancing your opponent when you think you're landing a solid hit (splash damage wise). Leveling up your character to the max nets you something like 8% extra health and 10% extra energy (for soldier) - so not that big of a difference really, and as far as I know there is nothing that affects weapon damage. Perks for energy add 10, but you get one of those by default. The key to jetting higher is doing it in one continuous burst right from your jump (using jump+jet) - it makes you more predictable, but basically if you do intermittent jetting or jetting when you are falling it will feel like a very inefficient use if your jetting energy.
The survivalist perk (unlocked by Ranger class) is awesome and probably the best perk all-around - nets you health + energy from ammo drops, so it's useful for staying alive after a duel, staying alive during a base raid, or healing up when you have the enemy flag.

Yeah, it is a bit unintuitive to have ballistic weapons where you both have to lead your target (NJ4, Chaingun, sentinel & infiltrator pistol), and others where you don't (everything else?), especially when the game itself is not making this distinction between the "similar yet working differently" -weapons clear in any sort of way.

In most of his killing sprees he's also killing off players who are almost dead already, which I could just as easily do with a spinfusor as the SMG. You kind of missed half the point.
If you're good, it doesn't really matter that much if it's hitscan or a fast projectile weapon (hello T1/T2 chaingun). What matters is the ease at which you can output damage consistently.
With ballistic weapon you can engage an enemy in pretty much any situation, and with the inane damage output on the NJ4 you are going to melt a whole bunch of faces. Hence, rapesauce.
If the ballistic guns are as strong or stronger than the slow, explosive weaponry in the game, they will always be the preferred method of engagement simply because they are more consistent in dealing damage and are more versatile in their use.
We already have had 3 tribes games dominated by chaingun use, and from the looks of it this one isn't exactly looking to improve on its predecessors.

(if any) The medium spinfusor's splash damage is extremely powerful in it's current stage, strong enough to two shot mediums. After enough practice, you'll learn all the magic distances in which you can shoot a disc at someone and he won't be able to dodge it unless he lets go of a ski key. I think projectile inheritance will put the spinfusor in the place though (hard to master but powerful when mastered). I'm probably in the minority in thinking that the spinfusor is an easy weapon to use. It's essentially like aiming a Quake rocket launcher, except it's easy because movement in Tribes is much more predictable. In other words, once they get projectile inheritance, it'll be a lot harder to exploit the predictable movement of your enemies because you have to account for the speed of your own movement. I'm currently wondering if the inheritance will be a value like 50% or 100%.
Haven't gotten to play with much of the classes aside from soldier, pathfinder, and juggernaut, but I can't think of any weapons that have been completely dominating me aside from the technician's turret (the bane of all lights). I think a splash buff on the fusion mortar would be nice but it still does it's job adequately.

This has never been a problem, I think it is mainly one now because weapon switching is so much slower. you can't switch to spray and disc properly, so you have to pick a weapon and stick with it. You NEED to have powerful anti air guns in the game since a competent capper can make the journey from base to base in 2-3 jumps, even as a medium. Explosive weapons are by no means useless, I do more damage with them than anything else in high skill games, since leading someone with the raider SMG or pistols etc if they're going at a decent clip (150+) becomes incredibly hard, far harder than clipping them with a spinfusor shot when they hit the ground. hitting them with the hitscan guns is a little easier, but very inconsistent unless you're matching their speed and quite close to them (sub 50m)
Sure they're great indoors or in a slow duel, but explosives are also many times as effective indoors, and anyone slow dueling in a high level game is a retard outside of some very specific circumstances.

What's projectile inheritances?

On December 13 2011 23:46 Fruscainte wrote: What's projectile inheritances?
It's where the momentum from your movement is transferred to any projectile that you fire. Think of it as throwing a cup out your window when you're driving on the highway at 60 mph. When you release the cup, it will be moving with you at 60 mph initially.

I see
I got an idea of how much of an impact that will have, but can I get specifics of what EXACTLY it will change and how?
|
It means if you're going super fast and you fire a shot, the shot will move more similarly to when you're standing still. currently you can chuck a grenade and if you're going fast enough you'll catch up to it and kill yourself when it blows.
what it will mean for the game is that using weapons like spinfusors and arxbusters at high speed will be easier and more effective compared to projectile/hitscan weapons, as well as being more intuitive, since we understand velocity inheritance and momentum inherently, so if it's replicated more accurately we can predict trajectories and impacts more intuitively.
