The great thing about Tribes is that your own success is usually not directly related to how your team is doing. So I can still zip around in my shrike and have fun and do well, or play just about anything else than a capper. that's all i play is a capper. pubs are seriously frustrating but you DO get those occasional games where it's 4-4 and flags are being grabbed and retrieved left and right and teammates are passing. last game i just had, i was spamming VFT and people were skiing past me, no thought to help and they killed me, returned, and we lost.
lol all I do is go around sniping and getting better at sniping, or if I get bored switch to infil and go annoy people. Dun think you can really care about winning in pub games too much, it's very crapshoot.

Pretty much what I do as well except if I get bored of sniping I switch to brute and go camp gen room
What's your ID Southlight? We should team up sometime

The thing that rustles my jimmies is the amount of people who insist on keeping the flag and skiing around the base with only slivers of health remaining while we try to retrieve, and people are screaming for a flag passoff that inevitably gets ignored.

I feel like I'm playing basketball again when I randomly get a flag. Panic -> PASS IT TO THE FIRST GUY I SEE.

yup, i've definitely seen both. one game i played the other day, i had less than 100 hp but was close to the flag. i passed it to a teammate even though i PROBABLY could have capped. but i wanted a higher probability of the flag being capped, so i passed it to him.

I don't get why some people seem to get so mad when you kill 'em with sent or shrike. I almost got 2 slayers yesterday on a shrike(should have died right away after 1st one and I'd get the 2nd) and in the end I had like 5 dmbs trying to SL me down. It's the same if I take sent and snipe the guy who tries to cap the flag, after a while he'll come chase me as if I'm the objective of the game apparently. Even more sad is that they usually try to duel you with pth or they use inf and rather than shooting or throwing a sticky they try to stab me.
As someone who has done that exact thing as capper, it's mostly that if you're in a pub, you have no one else who will actually secure your capping path, so going infil or pth and actually clearing out the sentinels and other obstacles a few times usually means you can go back to capping because the sent gets bored being backstabbed/stickied/duelled.
Edit: As for shrikes, I tend to mostly modify the capping path to avoid them, or take potshots at them if they catch up with me anyway...
exactly. i can never count on my team to do anything (ESPECIALLY to take the flag from me. i constantly do VFT VFT and everyone just runs past me and I get killed 4v1.)
Hey at least you can get the flag. I will set up a 200+ cap run, only to see some douchebag snake a llama grab a second before I get it. T_T
Yeah capping in pubs is pretty stupid in this game. Idk, I was a capper in T2 but the physics in this game are so awful so I just can't stand it. Hence why I play LO/Shrike competitively now.

Haha I've done this a few times, mostly b/c the only times I try to cap is when nobody else is, which means that if I get out I'll prbably have no support, and once I have low life and being chased I can't afford to stop. I would spam "Get the flag off me!" but I haven't learned the command for it b/c of the scarcity of the situation lol. Now I know though. TL tribes thread = informative.
And yeah I agree with people on the rage thing. I can't really play Sc2 (1v1 anyway) for long periods of time simply because it makes me stressed out. Tribes is more enjoyable tbh b/c you see your efforts pay off instead of just getting owned b/c you're a worse player.
i was a capper in t2 as well and dont see anything wrong w the physics. what bugs me is the 'micro lag' where you'll jitter around on your routes or while skiing etc

Some other guy stated this a few pages back, in addition to the combat being dull or something. He was gonna give me a source with reasoning, but that never happened. Why do the physics suck? Game feels good to me, and I don't think I'm the only one.. Oo

If your flag isn't on the stand when you are heading back to base, it's ususally better to just ski around the map, preferably behind your own base. Keep a high speed and avoid any opponents. Unless you have a shrike on your ass, it is much easier to defend the flag this way if no one else is helping you in a pub. Just make sure to quickly make it back to base once your flag has been returned.

Honestly its pretty hard to explain why the physics are bad. If you really want to know, go play tribes 2 (classic mod obviously, base is terrible) or tribes 1. You can just go so much faster and higher in the game, and heavies aren't slow as molasses.
I mean theres a video of a capper in Tribes 2, and as you can see he goes much much faster than you can in TA.
Oh and self impulse SUCKS so you can't really chase competently.
Where is the goddamn toggle zoom option? I started playing again and I cant fucking find it in any of the options....i've been staring at this thing for like 20min

Want that announcer voice back in T:A, NOW. The capper wasn't necessarily capping faster than you can in T:A. I believe the highest grab I saw was 360. It's just much harder to get to that speed because of the capped jetpack acceleration at 72kph. If that where taken off I think the speed would already increase greatly. Then increase the energy regen a little and increase the disc impulse to add the same knockback as a nitron does now. Game would be a lot faster. But, If they refuse to implement this into pub games, I hope we can at least mess around with these settings for custom servers.

As I said, I've played t1 and t2 extensively and don't find the physics to be 'awful'...and your terrible explanation of it only continues to show you have no idea what you're talking about.

I believe toggle zoom is in the Gameplay section under Options towards the bottom.

Self impulse means disc jumps....You clearly haven't played T1/T2 extensively because you have no idea what I'm talking about. Also the speeds may be the same numerically wise, but in actual movement they are not. Going 300 in tribes 2 is faster than tribes ascend, not to mention much more easily attainable.
