He's right, and you're wrong. MA's are not consistent enough to be used in smart, competitive play.
(Note: I play in top T:A comp + was involved in high level comp when it existed for Tribes 2 in most of it phases for reference)
MA hit rates inherently can't get much beyond a certain percentage (probably around 30% for close range shots on average, if that.) Because hitting MA's relies a lot on the person you're shooting maintaining a trajectory that's going to let your shot actually hit. And the massive opportunity cost for going for an MA essentially ensures that you lose whatever fight you're in if you miss (since the other person will presumably be hitting you with accurate smg fire as you miss your MA, if they're also a top player).
There's no scenario in where someone (at top levels) who's going for MA's will consistently beat a player who's properly using SMGs in response. A top player will consistently put out a shitload of damage on any player in the air with an SMG every time, as opposed to MA's which hit merely some of the time.
Best example I can draw to SC, is if you somehow developed a blind all-in build that had a strong chance of working, but only worked if you guessed the opponents location correctly. You might guess your opponents location correctly 30% of the time (and have a solid shot of winning), but the fact that you have a 70% chance of losing outright should be more than enough to deter you from making it something you rely upon.

We're not talking about being used in competitive play.
We're talking about players able to consistently hit MA's. I agree 100%, there are better options to trying to get MA's that are a million times more effective. That's not what we're discussing. He said it's impossible to consistently get MA's, and that's flat out not true. You need to reread what was being typed. No one said that MA'ing people is the best tactic, or that it will beat an equal skilled player using X tactic, or whatever. He said it's impossible to hit people mid air on a regular basis and we're stupid, and I told him it's very easy to regularly hit people in mid air.
Whether it's effective is another topic.

Listen to ZProton, flying car driver (jk zprotoss). Hes right, MAs will never be competitively viable outside of the flag stand, and its only viable there because of the lack of time to put DPS on with a chaingun.
BUT IF FLASH PLAYED TA, MIDAIRS WOULD BE 100% ACCURATE AND VIABLE

God, I wish I could play on the US servers. ;_; The community seems to be so much bigger over there.

Euro community is pretty big and just as competetive

Do you have any websites I could look at for the EU community? I've been watching TribesCast, but they don't really mention much about EU, so it's hard to find.

You can join #tribesascend on quakenet if you use IRC, not a euro-specific community but obviously the time difference plays a role . I get a lot of my discussion on /vg/ too, but again not EU-specific.

Wou know you can change region in the game options when you click "join queue"? I get 5-10 ping on EU servers and about 120-150 on US East ones. I have it on good account (aswell as my own experience) that the US community, on average, is quite significantly worse than the EU one as players.

I know I can change region, but playing with 150+ ping is not even worth considering.

It's funny and kind of sad when the "made in the age of 56k and runs on a toaster" Tribes2 plays way better and consistent with a 150 ping than its modern counterpart .
I'm gonna miss playing with all the yanks.

I feel a lot of spikes as well, my ping is ALWAYS around 60 but if I bump into people or mash my jetpack key I warp a few inches to the sides. It's worse when I'm flying indoors because I'm using small bursts of jetpack and hitting the ceiling. My guy jerks around and it's very annoying.
However, I think that's an engine bug, not actual network lag.

God the servers are so laggy right now. They've been awful since the start of open beta...

I gotta say, I'm pretty excited for NASL tonight :3 I hear they have some cool production stuff in store...

I think I actually played in this NASL match, not sure if its before or after I left Tao.

I just started playing Tribes Ascend tonight. This game is so awesome O.O

Hey, there you are. Yeah, unfortunately this was played when the shrike was broken so I couldn't show my stuff. Idk I've left tao since then due to disagreements on how to play the game, and our leader having internet issues for weeks.

Ahh, I was wondering why neither team seemed to be using shrikes at all. That's too bad.
I was really expecting Tao to make a much stronger showing in these games.
