It's not about the price, but more about a "is it worth playing at all"? Alan Wake is an amazing game. The atmosphere and environment is just sick, the Twin Peaks and Stephen King inspiration shines through amazingly. The gameplay is also, surprisingly, really good. The light play might seem gimmicky, but it works really well and keeps the game from being a boring shooter like most action games.
I would recommend it to anyone.

Picked up Dust: The Elysian Tail for 10% off. Was expecting a fun Metroidvania, got an absolutely gorgeous Metroidvania with a slick combat system.

Amazing game, heavily recommended And it's made by one guy alone. He worked on it for 4 years

New humble indie bundle is live. Capsized, Little Inferno, Awesomenauts, Thomas was Alone, Dear Esther and if you beat the average Hotline Miami and Proteus
This is a really nice bundle, totally worth it just for Hotline miami Link
|
Fuck yeah, didn't have Hotline Miami yet, now I do!
|
Totally worth it for Dear Esther and Proteus you mean rite? :>
Also DUST SO GOOD OMG.

New Humble weekly Telltale Games it includes Back to the Future, Poker Night 1, Sam & Max: Devil's Playhouse, Hector badge of Carnage, Puzzle Agent 1 & 2, Wallace and Gromit's adventures and if you beat the average The Walking Dead.
Great episodic adventure games, really recommend this pack
Edit: The pack comes in 1 steam key, only The Walking Dead is separate

Seriously, what the fuck is Humble doing? In the last 2 Weeks I got:
Humble Bundle 8: 0.81€ (already had Hotline Miami and Awesomenauts) Humble Weekly Alan Wake: 0.81€ (I don't really like the Genre, 1$ from me > 0.00$) Humble Weekly Telltale 2.80€
If you play all Games thats like 0.01€/hrs Gametime. :O
BUYBUYBUY! :D

Yeah, the point of those bundles is not to get them for 1 €, but to pay what you think those games are worth. People seem to have a hard time understanding it or thinking they are very clever for paying the minimum (hint: you are not)
|
If they weren't available for the minimum price, then the concept of Humble Bundle would be nowhere near as successful. There's a calculated reason why it's possible to get games for such a low price - the system caters to both people who would underpay the games for a variety of reasons, as well as people who would overpay for them (to reward the developers and/or support the charity).
Just be happy it exists and don't blame people for making use of it one way or the other. It's better than piracy.
|
I would've never bought Alan Wake. I'm not even sure if I'm ever going to play it. Probably not (too much other games left I already bought and are more interested in). The same applies to the bundles.
Yet, I bought it for 1$ (or minimum price for all games). 5€? Well, I would start thinking that I can almost get half a casket of beer for that money. And those 12 bottles are probably more entertaining compared to a game which I might never play.

After all, a lot of the profit comes from people who would have otherwise -never- purchased the game/s at all. So, $1 is better than $0, right? Anyway, I'm always generous when it comes to Humble Bundles. After all, you CAN send it all to charity.
It's pretty crazy how many good Humble Bundles there are though. Best website ever <3. (They give 95% of humble store* purchases to developers too!! Take that Steam!)
*Humble Store is their widgeted games selling system. You can google around for it if you don't know. It isn't like Steam.

My, how this gen has crashed and burned lol. The value and general interest for games has dive bombed.

I've been getting that vibe for a few years now. Not to mention there has been a few videos and articles popping up on major gaming websites about whether or not the games industry is in a crisis or not.
Well anyways, anyone have an opinion on the DMC remake. It's half off right now on Steam, debating on picking it up.

I think it is a case of too many good games having been made. New games have to compete with a product that is re-playable to a much larger degree than movies or books.
Serious Sam 75% of is an excellent example of this. I doubt I'll ever play this game since if I want an FPS I'll play one of the other 10+ I already own that are still dynamic in content. To get me to buy it they need to bring something one of the games I already own doesn't (Serious Sam does a good job at trying for that).
Games probably need less multiplayer or monetize multiplayer to get greater profit. (Greatest success games have all monetized on multiplayer.)

I'm pretty sure that 1$ is less than someone not buying it for them. They have some costs with hosting and downloads and stuff, too. Steam probably also wants a cut, so i really doubt that 1$ pays for maybe 10gb of stuff which you might even download multiple times, and all the bank transfer fees and stuff like that.
Of course it being available for what you want to pay is an important part of the business model, i am still free to think that people who pay the absolute minimum are assholes.

actually, some publiushers/devs wrote that they saw a big increase in revenue when they published on steam with its sales.
Also, steam and the publishers on steam wouldnt do all the 75% off sales if it would not make more money than selling for 50 euro.
These are digital products, they have no cost to duplicate them. Buyers can now have 3 games for 50 euro easily and the sellers sell 5 times more and make more money. Everyone profits, only EA with its ridiculous european pricing policy is sad.
Everyone is always defending companies that have outragous prices "Hey, its a free market, if it sells...they can do what they want!". But its the consumers fault when something is cheap and some companies go under? I dont think so.

I'm probably older than you And definitely not really part of "this gen".
