Any suggestions on what combo I should play next? Going for good scores keeps the game interesting. Maybe I'll try to comment my game as I play so it makes a good ttyrec (in lieu of making an actual video which is plain not happening while I'm stuck with just this netbook).

I am probably playing better than normal because I am commenting a lot (and thus playing slowly). Evocable flight at xl5 has proven to be quite nice. I'm undecided on my god but probably will go Ash because I don't feel like I want the other choices, unless anyone has a convincing argument for what they'd like to see.

It was a pretty interesting game since TeNe is a reasonably powerful but extremely fragile combo, so you can see what I do when I want to play well. The death to Rupert was partly bad luck and partly bad play; if I'd read teleport again instead of trying to blink to safety there would have been no problems but I got lazy. edit: the second recording was saved in .roff format for some reason, just rename it to .ttyrec and it works fine I think. edit2: Note my water and maybe a couple other things are Unicode characters so termplay will freak out about them. You can maybe still figure out what is going on though, and it's not that big a deal since they're pretty rare characters.

So it was my first game in a few months. I had decided to start a new adventure and take it serious from the very start. (Sometimes I get into the habit of just auto-explore/attack for the first 10 levels or so, and usually end up making some stupid mistake and dying to gnolls or something.) Spoiler'd for aesthetics + Show Spoiler + I played a pretty uneventful first couple of levels. Found plate armor in a sewer dungeon early on, and was gifted two priests and a sorc as soon as I hit 3* piety. Smooth sailing, really. Eventually picked up a nice unique axe that dropped when a follower of mine died. He had been using it, but I wanted the axe, so I sacrificed him to some monsters and took it. I ran into a orc red sorc and a large zombie squad gaurding mines. Ran into dragons and a huge flock of sheep gaurding the entrance of Lair. It was clear that my army would be mostly spell based this time: ![]() Smite heaven lol Went down to lvl 17 without doing any branches yet. So far, nothing harder than unseen horrors or those color changing things. Found a rod of heal wounds, along with teleport and dig as well. Gaurdian spirit amulet + some ring that gives more mana inflating my health by like 40 points. Magic resist boots. Things are looking golden right now. ![]() items Army is growing nicely, and Blork also joined somewhere down the road. No real threats at this point because once I start fighting, the High Priests and Sorcs just flood the screen with summons. ![]() Poor human... ![]() This is as far as I've gotten so far. Im about to play some more and will update this as I go. ----------------update---------------- I overextended on D:18 and lost a red sorc due to a bad positioning on a level transition, but I managed to save most of my guys and even promoted a few more. I'm went into full retreat mode, and now I am in the lair. Besides the occasional Black Mamba or Hydra trying to omnomnom my orcs, its been fairly easy. The hardest part really is just controlling my men and making sure they dont charge off chasing something into the fog of war. Also found a +2/+1 battleaxe of chopping, so I imagine that is what I'll be using for a long time. Found snakes on L:3. Decided to see how far I could make it there without poison resist. Before ![]() going to be a bloody battle After ![]() meh, actually wasnt that bad --------------Update--------- ugh, ran into Xathu in a tight corridor on lvl 5 snake. He one shotted two high priests immediately, a regular priest, and a warrior like they were nothing. I blinked back and recalled my pathetic group of survivors and we zapped him before he could touch us again. unfortunately then I got hit with some trident of distortion and it blinked me into 6 naga mages. I recalled my troops, but it was too late. I was dead in two turns. RIP

And memorizing what every symbol in the game represents would take a lot of time. Plus it looks nicer with tiles, and you don't look like quite as hipsterish when people see you using it. I took a bit of flak for dwarf fortress, lol. You can certainly use items from your inventory in the console version. You don't get a mouse of any sort though. As for memorizing what is what, the tiles don't really do a whole lot for you there necessarily. Can you tell from looking at the ettin tile that it is potentially the most dangerous monster in the game in melee range? No, you learn that from experience (or the knowledge bots); you get the same amount of memorization in tiles as in console. As far as differentiating between different monsters, I've been telling one letter apart from another for about 20 years now so I'm pretty good at that. If you like tiles certainly go ahead and play tiles though.

Because TSO is quite good for 3 runes and I wanted to try another game with him that way (angel summons are significantly stronger than either of Oka's two abilities, and the halo is pretty good too). You take int at levelup if you already have all the str you need for your armour and want more int for your spells.

It was only my 2nd go with TSO after getting hammered repeatedly when trying to make Oka work. So yeah, if youre having trouble getting a pure melee basher anywhere give TSO a go.
