I asked the knowledge bot and he said

put lua_file = lua/autofight.lua (in the default rcfile) in your rcfile and bind a key to CMD_AUTOFIGHT (tab by default). You have to macro a key to ===hit_closest in 0.7 and previous versions.

I'm afraid that's all I know, I never really bothered to mess with the rc files that much.

Ah ok, it seems indeed the lua file uses the default movement keys so it won't work with anything else. It was easy enough to open up the lua file and modify it to my keys though, thanks!

Well in 0.11 you can also just walk out of constriction (it might take two tries but it won't take six like in 0.10) so it's really not as bad as it sounds.

oh my god. I had an awesome SeEE going and got fucked over by orange rats lol. They looked pretty harmless like the green rats so i just tried to wack them with my earth staff. Got level drained and died lol.

how long does it take for kiku to gift necromonicon after the 3rd book? I got the 3rd book ages ago and im at max piety probably. Im afraid the book got left behind somewhere lol cus i was burdened or soemthing and didnt pick it up ?

You have to go pray at a kiku altar I believe. You can either get a pain branded weapon, or the necronomicon when you do. Must have 6 star piety.

For most characters the permanent pain brand is more useful than the necronomicon. If you really want haunt or ddoor you can go ahead and get the book though.

in my experience, the necronomicon is much more common than (good) pain branded weapons, so 9 times out of 10 I have kiku bless a short blade or (demon) whip. use weapon acquirements and hope for an early quick blade.

also if you're worried that you missed something you can just ctrl+f 'item/spell/whatever' and the game will find it for you. crawl is really slick like that.

well i have some kind of +8,+4 artifact falcon with rC+, MR, vorpal, +blink

The blink works kinda well with my ring of tele control. And resists are always nice so i was gonna use this.
Is pain brand really necessary? Anyways its too late lol i got necromonicon. I dont have slots to learn necromutation though -__-;; need them amnesia scrolls.

The carry capacity is really bugging me though. I should leave all these useless wands in the stash but i feel like i should keep one of each wand for whatever situation that arises.... but so far its been a bunch of dead weights. 90% of the time im just spamming icicle bolts :/

wands are really heavy. the only ones I regularly carry on every char are heal wounds/tele/haste/disint/digging. then there's places like shoals where I grab lightning.

that falchion is actually really bad, simply because it's a falchion. it usually doesn't matter what bonuses a weapon has if its base type is weak, and falchions are the lowest tier long blade. You want a demon blade, double sword, or triple sword.

You can use excruciating wounds if you want, but it's worse than a permanent pain brand for a couple reasons (noise, costs mp, takes a turn to use, etc.). You should try it out and notice how ridiculously good the brand is though ... a scimitar with excruciating wounds will dramatically outperform your falchion against anything where pain works. Even a +0 falchion will do so.

i guess i just didnt plan on meleeing much or something, so i favored resistances and utility rather than damage potential on the weapon slot? I was going for some kind of "pure caster." Well see how it turns out haha.

This is the first time i got to vaults so im a total noob when it comes to what works and what doesnt.

You hardly even need any weapon skill to make a pain branded dagger or whip or spear very powerful--you don't even have to go all the way to 10 skill for a dagger, though it's probably worthwhile to do so. Necromancy spells in general lend themselves well to hybrid characters also.

Almost every character dramatically benefits from some melee ability, since the fact is it takes no mp so you never run out of attacks and it is a lot harder to get caught in a bad situation. Holding on to that falchion for the resistances is fine, but I recommend you try out a pain weapon ... they do a ton of damage.

Im trying to get an octopode running but its pretty hard. I'm sure octo transmuters would be a beast with Statue form and chei, but getting there is probably about the hardest thing there is lol.

And RNG loves to troll me. I swear. I see a swamp dragon armor of d:4. Not to mention countless artifact armors and gloves and shit.

I'm trying to do something cute right now like follow ash until i can learn statue form... then change to chei or something. Cant find enough rings to make it work though lol.

I was planning on learning some weapon skill then transfering to unarmed.... but i think its my plan is flawed lol. Spider form wont benefit from weapons. And without spider form im too squishy to do anything. I woulda been better off following okawaru for a decent helm or sif for faster access to statue form.

if you're planning on unarmed, then train straight unarmed and don't bother with weapons. UC, especially combined with forms, is incredibly strong at high skill levels, and is one case where it's acceptable to use a shield.

Oka is my favorite Tm god because of heroism. With an Op, you'll end up with quite the wardrobe of hats and shields. Statue form isn't particularly rare, you shouldn't need Sif to get it.

also, ash wrath is absolutely brutal. i wouldn't recommend abandoning him for anyone.

damnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I had an incredible naga run with chei. Had statue form and all that jazz. Leda's liquifaction was really nice too. I died in orc mines cus .... well i kept using arrow keys lol. Ran into Harold while running around with arrows and ate a bunch of fire bolts. Somehow i beat him then right after i meet Agnes. Again, i was running around without autoexplore and ate a bunch of fire zaps. This time i didnt even have my scrolls cus i left it in the previous level and forgot to bring it down with me lol. I tried step from time twice but he kept intercepting me on the way back to the upstairs. I dont even know how i killed him. He apparantly ran out of charges on his wand and was comming so i did leda's liquifaction and bend time when he got next to me. My life was in the red the whole time lol. Somehow i beat him, then i got overconfident and did stupid shit and died to some stupid orc ice crossbow.

My biggest mistake was not utlizing Statue form i think. I could onjly cast it if i took my armor off.... and I was surprised how short the duration was. I was afraid it would run out mid fight and i would be left without armor... so i didnt use statue form all the time. In retrospect i shoulda just ditched my armor and just recast statue form when it was about to run out.

God... i had a rod of inacc for range attack which was nice, and there was a treasure trove or whatever that required 12 healing potions... which i almost had. T_T QQQQQ
