It's quite different in how it plays and how it looks, I still think it's worth getting but I'd say the Witcher 2 was the better of the two.

Different beasts. Personally I enjoyed the original more- making potions is pretty fundamental to the game, there's a lot more content (longer than both the branches of the Witcher 2 combined), and the story is more engaging. I also enjoyed the combat more, although I think a lot of people hated that.
Oh, also the inventory is a lot easier to navigate because it isn't made for an easy switchover to a console. xD

Wow, that trailer. I haven't played in like 7 months but I guess now is about time to beat the game again.

Trailer is soooo goooood

I'll play the devil's advocate, add a bit more depth to my reasoning than Pibacc and compare the two games for you Barburas.
TW1 character depth > TW2 (mostly because they were introducing the characters in the first game) Companions were also more fun. Not to say that there are not funny moments in TW2 but I think most ppl who finished TW1 would agree that companions shined more, specially Dandelion. + Show Spoiler +I might also add that whoever chose Shani over Triss as his lady friend was shat on because Shani is not in TW2
TW2 combat system > TW1. Way too easy to kill hordes of enemies. Rather unstoppable from start to finish.
TW1 sidequests > TW2. Although clips of the sex scenes over the groans of pleasure and outside view of the house is deffinetly more compeling; charming this lovelly ladies was a tougher challenge in TW1 and felt worth pursuing due to the sex cards rewards which gave it a feeling of achievement.
TW1 enhanced edition bugs = TW2. Whoever played TW1 on non enhanced edition can agree that it was a helish nightmare. With enhanced edition things have gotten better but some bugs still remain. TW2 also has it's unfortunate share of glitches however as his predecesor, it's nothing that impedes enjoying the game.
All that being said I finished TW1 twice and done 12ish endings on multiple playthroughs in TW2 O_O;
I can only hope to help spread the word about the series so CDProjektRed can have incentive to bring us more games :D
The Witcher series due to the rather unbeatable immersibility, non linear story line, character depth and mature aspect of the game is mandatory for any rpg lover

Actually what really bothers me about witcher 1 is that they reuse like 10 different character models 1000 times.

Replaying with 2.0 patch, and it's fucking 1000x better on the new Dark mode than when I first did vanilla with everything they changed. Love it.

So the enhanced edition should add about 4 hours more game play to story on new area, does this continue from end of the Witcher 2? or is it some place where you need to go before the ending of the Wicther 2?

I think they're adding more content to the third act, in the ruins of the castle city.

Marathoned the first game this week after dropping it due to some frustration a long time ago. Going to buy Assassins of Kings from gog.com now and import my first games save, can't wait for it with the way the first games ending cinematic set it up.
Anything special someone that finished the first game should take into account when moving to 2nd, it seems pretty different from the little gameplay I've seen?
And while writing this I realised I still have the enhanced edition missions or something to do in Witcher 1. Something to do while downloading 2nd game I suppose.
Edit: And then I realise the additional content was just fan made stuff fml.

I found withcer 1 to be much better. Mostly because I was very dissapointed with the ending in witcher 2. However if you go back you are prolly going to find the combat to be abit boring, but the story is good

By the way Andrzej Sapkowski (author of The Witcher book saga) is most probably working on his new Witcher book. He said in a radio interview, that the novel will be published in one or two years. However, the interview was rather humorous, so some people highly doubt that. We have been waiting for that since 1999

The only thing worse than Witcher 1, was the final chapter of Witcher 2. Otherwise, I found Witcher 2 to be much, much more enjoyable.

Spoiler about ending of Witcher 2 + Show Spoiler +Agreeing that the end was anticlimatic, it was especially bad as alchemist... I didn't spec into potion duration, so all my stuff ran out before I had to fight the dragon >_<

I recently started my 2nd playthrough of the Witcher, when I heard about the upcoming enhanced edition.
From what I have heard it seems like it mainly focuses around adding more content around the end-game area, and that it will not be like the overhaul that the last enhanced edition was.
If that´s the case I'm just gonna continue playing until I reach the last chapter again (I'm in Flotsam atm), and then just wait for the content.
But has anyone heard if they are gonna do some general improvements or add stuff along the way to the endgame? In that case I might just put the game on a hold until the enhanced version arrives.
TLDR; Is it worth it to wait for the enhanced edition to be released, or is it more of a expansion of content in the endgame that you can get to when you get there so to speak.
Thanks ya'll!

Finished the game just now, felt like my Witcher 1's completely neutral Geralt didn't quite stay on the same path on the second game.
+ Show Spoiler +I spared dragons and trolls to abide with the code and because killing a dragon just seemed like such a waste. But on the other hand I left Henselt and Sile to their demise even if it wasn't by Geralts hand. Not to mention slaughtering through hordes of soldiers of various sides. However I did let Letho walk free.
I don't think the ending was that bad but I'm more interested in Geralts story than the things happening in the world, last chapter did feel really short though. Probably have to do a playthrough on Iorveth's path asap and then struggle to decide which save to import to Witcher 3.
Witcher's definitely have the most mature if not best story in video games that I have played. I haven't played the old school western PC RPG's like Badulr's Gate though.

For the best story and most memorable characters be sure to play Planescape Torment. BG2 has less story but more action.

Dat trailer.... had to collect my jaw from the floor. I must say is is definitely right up there with blizzard and Bioware cinematics. Awesome! Just got TW2 and really love it so far (leaving aside some bug which forced me to re-download and reinstall the game -.-)

Everyone who liked the world/story should go read the books its based on. Although a bit different, they are on par with ASOIAF and LotR. edit: Forgot that only the Blood of Elves (1st of 5), and Last Wish (short stories, 1 of 2) are translated to English.
