lol...I rolled Deprived too. Trust me that sword is not going to last you forever. You haven't even rung the second bell yet.

I wouldn't say it's shit. The majority of PvP is fair because most players aren't assholes and if you want to co op then you and your friends should join Way of the White at the start, makes finding each other real easy.

Priscilla's dagger is pretty hard to use. There's no way I can burst people long enough to trigger the bleed because any exchange is me deading so without that, it's just a weak ass dagger with zero range. I can still beat some people but versus a katana is just too hard. I could try duel wield with the parrying dagger but then I might as well just use the bandit knife for the uber crit (uber uber crit with hornet ring)

Hahaha, something similar happened to me. I was having a good time, then decided to use the bathroom. Put my ps3 controller on the floor, and I attacked Andre of Astoria (the blacksmith). Now he's dead .

I know . And what makes it sadder is the weapon used to kill him was the one he just helped upgrade.

I find a game like Dark Souls very interesting because you can make it as hard as you want. If you look up a video walkthrough and follow it step-for-step, this game will be very easy. However, if you play through the game with absolutely no outside knowledge at all, I don't think there is a more difficult single-player game.
On top of this, there are many boss fights that you can "cheese" (ex. hiding behind the rock on the top of the steps for Capra Demon so that he can't hit you). Or even spending 10 minutes shooting arrows at a far-away enemy when you are out of its "aggro range" can be considered "cheesing an enemy".
This makes me wonder; where do you guys "draw the line"?
Personally, I allow myself to check a few things: where am I "supposed" to go next, where are the NPC's, how to join covenants, where/how to get weapons, and game mechanics (ex. how does the "bleed" effect work?). I try to refrain from looking up anything else in the game because, in my opinion, it would ruin much of the surprise and intensity.
This is very much a personal choice. You can play the game however you like, obviously. I'm just curious where you guys "draw the line".

Yo guys, started recording some PvP with my PS3 Eye. Quality is ok, need to sort out the monitor brightness but anyway, here's a playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL327444306F19EBD9
I upload them from the camera on youtube so the clips are short.
For me, I look up info on anything that I've already progressed through. I never get the drake sword on any playthrough.

I looked up the way through the crystal caverns because things like invisible bridges are a fkn retarded way to add difficulty. I also looked up where to get the sunlight helm before going to the Tomb of the Giants cause once again making a place completely black is a dumb way of adding difficulty. Other than that I didn't really look anything up besides locations of certain weapons/armor I wanted.

While I understand the feeling (that some things aren't difficult in an interesting way, just cheap as hell), I have to disagree about the crystal bridges. I walked around for like five minutes, didn't see anywhere else to go, didn't see a way to get the treasure, and didn't pay attention to the snowflakes shattering in mid-air. Then I just tried walking straight towards the treasure from the path before it and found myself standing on air -- I realized that's what the snowflakes were trying to show me, and it was one of those great Dark Souls "aha" moments for me.
Tomb of Giants, though, sucked horribly at first. I made it through the catacombs, killed Pinwheel in one try and only got 6000 souls, so I thought okay, that was easy, there's no bonfire close before the boss, let's press on, can't be that much harder. So so wrong >.> Died a few times, eventually gave up. A bit later on I got stuck in Anor Londo, couldn't find the path, so I went back to the Tomb because I thought it was the only place I could go. Struggled through it in the dark, died a whole lot, and got to the yellow fog door where I realized I had to turn back -.- I got the lantern but didn't know how to work it.. If I had just saved the Tomb for last, though, it wouldn't have been so bad -- I came across the sunlight helm naturally just going through Izaris, and once I got that it was obvious that it would help a ton in the tomb. Looking back it makes sense, but since there's no way to know that at first, yeah, that was pretty damn unforgiving and I can see your point.
As for looking stuff up, I definitely think that limiting any outside info you can makes it more enjoyable the first time through. Most of the fun for me is figuring out stuff on your own and discovering things, exploring everything hoping for new items. Once you've played through it and are just looking for extra stuff, or looking up info, yeah, that makes sense. I had a bunch of demon's souls but no idea what weapons I needed to upgrade so that I could use them, and randomly upgrading a bunch of stuff on your first playthrough for items that may or may not suck seemed pretty silly, so I definitely looked that up after I found that smith.

Jesus i cant believe you people went through the bombs in pitch black. Sounds like a nightmare. I guess i was lucky to actually look at the description of the skull lantern before i went down in there...

I saw the description on the loading screen, but you don't get the lantern til you go down, and once I got it and equipped it nothing happened, so I just put it away. Didn't know you had to, what is it, put it in your right hand and use R1? R2? Does it work in the left? -.- At any rate, didn't know, just assumed it wasn't working for whatever reason.

OK, just finished the game, but I'm somewhat confused with some plot holes in the story.
If I'm correct, there are 4 entities that have Lord Souls. From the intro, that would be Gwyn, Gravelord Nito, the Witch of Izalith and the Furtive Pygmy (FP). However, I never encountered a piece of information about the FP or his value to the story.
Also, the number of Lord Souls doesn't seem to add up. According to some of the displays in the items, Gwyn gave a piece of his Lord Soul to Seath, hence the Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard (BLSS) which you get from him (lets assume that it's half of a full Lord Soul). Nito and the Bed of Chaos have full Lord Souls and then the 4 Kings have another BLSS, which racks up to 3.5 Lord Souls. My brain hurts.
For the other part of the story line, I'm aware that the fire is "burning out", but I also still have no idea as to what was the purpose/accomplishment of "linking the fire". I know Gwyn set out on a quest to link the fire but apparently, I think he failed (?), I don't know why. It just dawned on me on the ending that linking the fire was the end goal of the story. Furthermore, you're gonna burn at the ending, not telling if you lived or not nor telling the purpose of why you burned like that. To top all of that, the bad ending made a lot more sense to me, story-wise, than the good ending.
Am I missing something? Maybe you guys can help me understand it or perhaps have good theories on it.

What makes my brain hurt is the fact you're actually thinking about the plot. This game doesn't have a plot and its better for it.
If you want a plot go get skyrim, if you want the better game, get dark souls

The reason that the "bad ending" makes more sense is because that's the correct one.=

Yeah i was confused with it at first too. I think it ended up just being put in your left hand and holding L1.
Oh, and yeah it's best not to think about the story / ending to this game. In the end no one gives a crap, even the developers.

First time through that game takes about 60 hours... my second time through in NG+ I'm at about 8 hours in and I have one boss left before the end boss. Dark Souls is so unbelievably well made (except for blight town lag) its almost sickening when I go on the IGN boards and read about all these people pumped for skyrim (aka 1 player WoW) that haven't even played Dark Souls.

That's because Elder scrolls is EZ mode. Just swing your sword till it dies. If it's blocking? Keep swinging. No thought process involved. Also the mention of dragons which everyone has been crying for. Too bad they aren't bright enough to see how many dragons are in this game. Probably more epic ones as well.

They are two VERY different types of games Im not sure why people are constantly comparing the two. Hell it's hard to compare the Souls games to anything made in the last 10 years. If Skyrim is anything like its predecessors Im sure ill like Dark Souls 100 times more but who knows.
