I'm god awful at first person shooters but I'm enjoying myself. Will probably play every other day or so.
The base sniper rifle is so horrible.
I really want to comment on your name but it'd be rude and inappropriate lol.
I like how you don't have to good at FPS games to enjoy planetside, there's roles you can fulfill and excel at without having to even point your cursor at the enemy. Being a medic or an engy should be a lot of fun for you.

Make sure your drivers are updated. I know NVIDIA released a driver fix for a few chips a day after release, amd may have as well.

I have a noob question....can your character switch servers? So I dont have to restart my upgrades by creating character on another server?

The problem is with AMD I think. A couple of days ago there was someone else who had problems with a decent pc, don't think there is any fix I think.
No. I have an AMD X4 955

Which faction are you playing? The NC starter sniper rifle is very good. I think I remember reading that it's the only base sniper rifle that can one-shot kill people with a headshot.

okay how can i see allies health bars ? it seems extremely random although frequent when I spot an allys hp.
Its difficult playing a medic and trying to guess who needs healing and the only 1-2 hp bars I can see are full

I'm online now if you need an invite to the Mattherson TR outfit. Whisper Rahsun.

Been playing for 6-7 hours. And honestly..I can't see the good side of it yet. I don't know if it's the weapons, or the downtimes and suprisingly fast time to kill, but I'm just not feeling it. And my hate for snipers is higher than ever...I just can't stand dying to people I can't see or evade, It feels like I'm rolling a die every now and then, to see if I randomly die. It might just be im sick of "Rightclick>leftclick" to kill games, I honestly can't stand ADS..I like it for long range burst fire, but otherwise it just makes the game feel like any other FPS when it comes to combat. I convince myself it's just the basic weapons you start with, but I don't know..
I also found out things you buy, even for SC is locked to one character. So if I ever change server, faction or whatnot I lose out on my whole investment. I'd love to spend a lil cash to see if other weapons or so makes it better but I'd hate for some friends to pop up and say "Ohai we play on this server!" or get an offer to join some outfit elsewhere and having to start from scratch.
I also have some curiously low FPS, I've tried various fixes, but still sitting on 20-25 fps in combat, dropping to sub 20 at worst. You'd think I would be able to avoid that with a spanking new 680 :l I assume combat would be alot more enjoyable and succesfull with 40+. I really want to like this game :l

I'm interested in joining the outfit, but won't be home for a few hours (I hope you play for a while) ^_^

Please go into you user options folder and change your render distance and shadows. Your render distance will automatically be set to either -1.00000 or 9999.99. Do yourself a favor and set it to 1000. Change your Shadows Quality to 0.
These two small things bumped my fps from 20 on low graphics to 40 on high.

Get a vehicle, instant action, or redeploy are faster and safer ways to travel. 2) Devs have stated that server transfers are coming in the "near future." So hopefully very soon 3) See my post above to get much better FPS

Going to follow your advice, but I cannot for the life of me find my Planetside 2 folder (technical ineptitude, go!). Could you help please? :D

In the launcher there is a button that takes you to the folder.

A friend of mine has an AMD X4 955 and a 560 Ti, and the game runs at a smooth 60 FPS. Another friend with a 1090T and the same GPU runs at 15-20 FPS. Oddly, he can also stream at 720p without a framerate drop. Still 15-20 FPS.
The first friend had framerate issues as well, and he fixed his by downloading Nvidia beta drivers. Didn't work for the other guy. Might as well try it, though.

It depends on wether you are CPU or GPU bottlenecked. In my case NVidia drivers wouldn't fix the low FPS because i'm CPU bound. My GPU is good enough to run the game but it's not taking good advantage of my 6 cores. Core 1 is on 90%, all the others idle around 20-30% load. To see if you are GPU or CPU bound, press Alt-F ingame and look at the bottom left wether it says CPU or GPU.
The developers are on it though: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/quick-note-on-optimization.49152/
