So far, Medic heals seem really weak. I can't keep anyone up during a fight, I just feel like a light assault with rez. Maybe engineer is better for feeling that heals+utility role. That having been said, being able to actually fight as a medic is pretty sweet.
All forms of healing and repairing are like that. It's more like you're just there to just top people off when a soldier thinks it's too hot to stay in the thick of it. However, being an engy is nice when maxes are around. I think 2 or 3 engies behind a max can keep him going for a good while.

medic's are known for their support abilities and amazing medium-long range fights due to accurate rifles

Thanks, I'll try out engineer. My first engagement I was in a small squad of 5, and everyone just died in 3 hits thru spam healing. I was able to get some kills, but didn't really feel like a "healer".

you will never ever be able to outheal headshots or multiple body shots
time to kill is fast in this game
however healing a teammate after a engagement or rezzing fallen allies is just as useful
engis can heal max's pretty effectively prob more along the lines of healing you are looking for

I'm going to give that a shot, see which I like better. How easy/hard is it for my roomie to acquire a MAX (Haven't had a chance to play too much since I was at the parent's place last week)? Would it take long for us to just log in and pal around as engy/MAX?
Sidenote, anyone notice how the MAX units are a direct nod to the Aliens vs Predator books by SD Perry and David Bischoff? Same design/acronym.

if you guys want to do it full time
he will need to cert into the max unit buying upgrades for acquisition timer (lowers cooldown) etc etc
he can get a max from any weapon terminal but it has like a 10minute cooldown(upgradeable) and a resource cost
you also need to cert into engineer repair gun
its a great combo tho, both of you will earn a good amount of certs

MAX suits are easy to get, just go to the loadout terminal and select MAX. You can't deploy initially as a MAX, you have to request from a terminal the same way you would with a vehicle. I recommend that your friend certs his MAX to get dual cannons or something, I've read that MAX users have a tough time landing a significant amount of kills on average with the default weapons which I can generally agree with since at a certain range your gatling gun becomes too damn inaccurate to reliably hit shit.
EDIT: damn beat me to it

Hrm, these specs should play the game fine.
What does your core temp look like for CPU and GPU?

Something must be fucked up, because I'm getting 60+ fps with nothing close to those specs on high.

The problem is with AMD I think. A couple of days ago there was someone else who had problems with a decent pc, don't think there is any fix I think.

I had a problem a while back with my 6950's thermal paste turning to dried out dust... so maybe a simple repaste could fix his problems. I have seen some issues with my stepbro's comp with completely bottomed settings struggling at 15fps. He's using an older dualcore, 3gb of RAM, and a lowerish-end (but dx10) ATI video card.

my amd x4 phenom ii 955 4gbram 560ti runs about 30-100fps in non zerg areas
about 10-30 in zergs, been working on getting a stable overclock working but nothing that has kept my fps above 30

My temps in the game are normal like any other game, 60-70c.

I think joining big organized groups is a must for having fun ( and getting 150+ creds / hour ) but its a hassle to take 15 mins to find them since they don't create open squads anymore.. PS : if you play light assault, invest in the damn jetpack upgrade, I can pratically fly on lvl 3 upgrade You can't find outfits or big groups of allies directly but what you can do however is look for high enemy activity. After relogging it should be available instantly. Huh, so you can only unlock weapons right away if the server you're on isn't full. Annoying bug. -_-
After playing each faction a bit, I feel like NC has the worst starting weapons by far. VS get their super-fast reloading no bullet-drop pew-pew lasers, TR get pretty accurate and fast-firing rifles and NC...get high recoil with little accuracy? The only weapons I can reliably use at a distance are the sniper rifle and the medic weapon. The fact that nearly all weapon stats are hidden is not helping.
Still liking the game though. Was part of a platoon and we waltzed all over the TR and VS with a train of Sunderers and Vanguards. ^^

For people who want to run MAX+support: MAX suits can also be resurrected by Medics, which completely circumvents the acquisition cooldown issue.
I find with Engi repair lvl 4 I can keep MAXes up reasonably well when we're positioned in corners/cover, though when we're trying to bust into an open room filled with baddies I prefer to eliminate threats and repair once the room is clear. Engi carbine or shotgun is no slouch in killing enemies.
MAXes are amazing in narrow confines like the insides of a Bio Lab, and make sure your MAX knows he has a pretty damn good default anti-air weapon at his disposal.

Mmm that worries me a bit... What settings are you on? I set mine to mostly medium or low and I get the same frames regardless if it's a clusterfuck or not with a radeon 5770. Our CPUs however are pretty much the same if I remember correctly or mine could be better. So if it's the CPU that's holding you back then my 7850 that's coming to my front porch right now isn't going to do much @_@. At least SC2 will be beautiful.

FX-8320 with only a 9600GT at the moment here (wanted to upgrade but atm out of stock) 100% render quality, medium settings 40-60 FPS, only hugeass (like BIGASS) fights go down to 15-20 FPS. 9600GT running on only 1440x900 screen tho.

Just started playing yesterday.
I'm god awful at first person shooters but I'm enjoying myself. Will probably play every other day or so.
The base sniper rifle is so horrible.
