Yes I realize they are fixing the game. They shouldn't be making promises if they are still fixing the fucking game.
I am going to think in terms of them giving us dates WHEN THEY ARE GIVING US DATES. Yes I am legitimately mad about this because the SOE marketing team has been lying to us for months. First it was PCGamer keys get equal priority (explicitly stated multiple times) to Vets, and then they went back on their word on that. Then it was the beta is "a few weeks" after E3, and they went back on their word on that. Then it was "after Higby cut his hair" and then they went back on that. Then it was DEFINITELY coming out in July, then they went back on that.
I'd be perfectly fine waiting this long if they didn't keep fucking saying it's coming and then changing their minds. If they just came out after E3 and said "We'll probably wait until August or September before we really get the beta going" I would wait like a happy person getting all hyped up. But when they keep doing this to us, maybe it's not lying but it's definitely bad marketing. Every major game website and magazine was hyping up this game for coming out today or tomorrow because they said DEFINITELY July and then Smedley said we should get prepared for today or tomorrow.
That's just horrible marketing and we can see that by the forums and how they're exploding right now. But I'll wait, because I fucking love this game and have dealt with SOE's incompetence for years.

You must have never been in the gaming community I see then. The forums are always blowing up about something new all the time, and they never give dates... they havent given a single date... They say next week, late next month. Thats time frames, WHICH CHANGE A LOT. Stop crying about how you cant play a shit version of the game and be happy you will play something that is way more polished

FYI The dates given are Monday/Tueday so if it starts tomorrow then they will be on time. All of us might not be in but that was never promised anyways. Its PS1 vets and PC Gamer keys first.

When they keep making promises of when the beta is coming, and then keep changing their minds the community is going to get pissed off. Saying the community gets pissed off for other things too doesn't make it any less legitimate anger. That is bad marketing and is very frustrating. It's something I've come to expect from SOE but nonetheless, it doesn't make it any less annoying. It's not that I'm mad that I can't play yet and I want to play a shitty version. It's that they keep promising the beta is coming and then going back on their word. I would rather them just say "We dont know when it's coming out" or "When it's ready" than to keep doing this.

Oh I've never seen that tweet. Only dates I've gotten were from gamespy and IGN, who said mon/tue. Regardless its a beta, and we are fans of Blizzard products so should be used to delays.
"Soon™" lol

So. Not only are random people who have never even played Planetside nor got a beta key getting into the tech test, but they also get priority over veterans of the game.
Beautiful marketing scheme SOE. As always.

I do agree they should downplay the hype, but I also think people need to calm down. I'm just as eager as all of you but this ridiculous lol.
We've seen this a 100x over, beta is always ready "When its ready"; and how soon when its ready? "Soon™".

well it was a tech test. it wasn't a veteran invite session.
i can say this tho, the latest patch fixed a ton of stuff but messed up a ton of stuff. id prefer they postponed beta and fixed it all, then let people like you in right now.
it would only give them negative pr as people without any control would just talk shit about bugs instead of understanding how amazing this engine is and the credit soe deserves for going so far beyond my expectations.

Haha yeah you're right.
We should be happy they lie to us. Those of us who are mad they are lying to us should just get a life and be thankful they're even deciding to make this game!
Yes, it was a tech test. Which I'm glad that they are inviting people with certain technological specs to test the game. I have a problem with them taking those same tech test people, a lot of which have never even played Planetside or heard about until a few weeks ago when they signed up (much like a friend of mine who got in), and giving them priority over vets. This system is making no sense and they keep changing their minds. First tech test people weren't getting priority, now they are getting priority, then they weren't, and now they get in before any vets when the real beta starts.
I'm not being entitled or overreacting, I'm stating the facts. SOE keeps making expectations and breaking them, they keep making promises and changing their minds and it's very fucking annoying. Saying that "you hope they dont let people like me in" and for me to get a life because it's summer doesn't change that fact.
I'm not disputing that the devs are working on this game and that it doesnt have an amazing engine. It has a fucking fantastic engine and they are fixing a lot of major things. But I'm not being entitled nor am I overreacting for saying I, along with many other people, are annoyed that they keep making promises and deadlines and then going back on them.
I mean come on. "People like me"? What the fuck does that even mean. People who expect company presidents to stick to their fucking word? People who when they are told something expect people to stay true to that? Stop acting like I'm hating on the game itself or the developers themselves or the work the developers or doing or that I'm mad because I'm not playing. I'm mad because I, as a fan and customer, am being perpetually lied to by the Producer Companies President.
With that said, I hope the developers fix whatever they need fixed and we can get this show on the road.

so much nerd rage, if you dont like the way the company is handling things dont support them by not playing their game, writing a fucking story over it and getting angry isnt going to get you in the beta faster loool

They did give out dates though, that's the thing
I understand why it's being delayed, I'm not blaming the developers. I'm just mad at the SOE marketing team, and Smedley in particular, for constantly giving those promises and going back on them. I don't know why they can't just say Soon™. It's the fact they keep saying "After E3" and then "A few weeks" and then "Definitely July" and then "Monday/Tuesday" and then "Okay now in August".
I take personal offense when I am lied to, which is what Smedley did multiple times. Both in terms of beta dates and in terms of access. It feels almost like something I'd expect EA to do -- promise equal access with Vets if you buy this magazine, and then going back on that. So perhaps I am overreacting, and I apologize for doing that here. I'm just a bitter old fan who has been waiting for this game for a long, long time and has dealt with SOE's shit for a bit too long
I'll try to tone it down, apologies!

yah i know but from my perspective, the reason they gave out that date was cause they truly wanted beta out today.
they are only extending it cause they have to.

Its funny really. People flame blizzard for never giving dates and then when another company listens to that and tries to be transparant they get flamed for not being to stick to there dates.
It comes when it comes. whining like a little schoolgirl on an internet forum isnt going to make it come faster.

"Soon™" lol Yeah lol Also ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ywYpo.png) So. Not only are random people who have never even played Planetside nor got a beta key getting into the tech test, but they also get priority over veterans of the game. Beautiful marketing scheme SOE. As always. well it was a tech test. it wasn't a veteran invite session. i can say this tho, the latest patch fixed a ton of stuff but messed up a ton of stuff. id prefer they postponed beta and fixed it all, then let people like you in right now. it would only give them negative pr as people without any control would just talk shit about bugs instead of understanding how amazing this engine is and the credit soe deserves for going so far beyond my expectations. I'm mad because I, as a fan and customer, am being perpetually lied to by the Producer Companies President. i mean people who overreact. its a brand new engine. if you understand why they are delaying then why are you blowing up over this. tho i am fully appreciating the fact that they never gave out dates, cause i can't imagine how much worse it would be. They did give out dates though, that's the thing I understand why it's being delayed, I'm not blaming the developers. I'm just a bitter old fan who has been waiting for this game for a long, long time and has dealt with SOE's shit for a bit too long I'll try to tone it down, apologies!
While I understand your disappointment, I don't think it's fair to say they're lying to you. It's a work in progress -- things change and get delayed all the time, that shouldn't be shocking to anyone. Also, I don't know about the wording of any other announcements, but the two I saw:
No promises, just updates stating when they expect they'll be able to open the beta.
At any rate, it doesn't matter -- at some point, probably not too long now since they seem to be getting close, they'll start the beta, and people that are lucky will get to see a rough version of the game early and help them work things out. People that don't get in will just have to wait for the game to actually be released.

It comes when it comes. whining like a little schoolgirl on an internet forum isnt going to make it come faster.
Heaven forbid people are held to their word? I don't know what to say, be accountable for you words. At the very least give a caveat if you give a time frame or ETA. If you say "Monday or Tuesday," people will expect that, since it comes from an employee.

We always learned in school to ask for double the time we estimate. Think it will take 2 weeks? Tell everyone it will be ready in 4 weeks.
Im surprised game companies dont do this.

Heaven forbid something happens and they have to delay the fucking game. Then all the raging nerds everywhere will come out and bitch up a storm. Holy shit, it's an MMO first off. Things change everyday with those. It's a beta secondly, obviously it's probably not going to go smoothly. Thirdly it's a completely new engine. Did you rage this hard at every other mmo when it released/had unexpected downtime? Did you rage at d3 when you couldn't login for four hours at launch? My god, people need to relax. If you're seriously this pissed off over a video game maybe you should stop playing. People miss deadlines everyday in every sort of business environment, it's not the end of the world.
