By open beta you mean Closed Beta. You dont need an invite to Open Beta.

seems like tech test for another week then beta
if nothing else major pops up.

They just sent out more tech test invites. You might want to check your emails.

So I bought a digital version of the UK version of pcgamer, for 5$, emailed pcgamer with the receipt and they emailed me a betakey. Kind of an annoying way to do it, but you can check their pcgamer forums for info about this. US digital versions of the magazine do not get you keys, only physical copies do.

and here is a thread about it http://www.pcgamer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18399&page=3
Just in case you were wondering, this doesn't get you in right away on opening, supposedly PC Gamer keys have to wait 2-3 weeks according to that AMA on reddit, if that influences your decision.

@RedditSide Planetside 2 will be on Steam. Yes it will

Not sure if I should be excited or very scared.

being on steam is a plus in my book

steam + free 2 play = great

I mean it's great that the game will get much more people and publicity. But being free to play on a browser like steam will also bring a very large amount of players with terrible attitudes and terrible ability. It's kind of a double edged sword.
But hey, the more cannon fodder the better ^^

I don't see why being free to play in another place would bring a different proportion of players with good attitudes and bad ability, can you explain?
Steam is basically just a platform for people to purchase games on, ranging from very casual to very hardcore games, so I don't see why advertising, accessing it from steam brings better/worse players.
The whole point of planetside 2 i thought was too have this massive fps game, if you want a game for a small elite group of players thats highly competitive I don't think your going to find it here.
Also, more players = more $ , = better content, expansions etc.
