Though I think I'll just play the multiplayer more casually, depending on how immersive it is. Wondering if this is the right game for me or what other options there are. I haven't really looked into these type of games for a while so I'm really outdated.

Its more epic, awesome blow everything up kind of thing with vehicle warfare mixed in. I'd suggest ARMA II Operation Arrowhead if you're looking for a really in depth tactical and realistic shooter, but be aware its hard, tough to get into and you really need to join clans/groups and install mods etc.

The "epic, awesome blow everything up" part sounds quite good though. I don't want it to be too tedious, but not too unrealistic either. I think ARMA is a bit too tedious, even though I could try the DayZ mod with that one, so thanks for the suggestion. I wish I could find a nice coop game that doesn't get old fast though. I liked the coop modes in Resistance 2 or Uncharted 2 where you get random generated objectives and each map played differently each time. Is the coop mode in BF3 worth checking out as well? I've watched a few videos of BF3 and the multiplayer in general looks quite fun, but not sure how much work it is to get into it.

I didn't really mean it to be simulation like realistic, just that I want weapons you can find in real life, not some futuristic shooters or stuff like that. Multiplayer is a bit hard for the first few levels, where you don't have anything and can't even use the same gun in each match. Bullet drop takes some time getting used to if you've never played with that. Infantry and tanks are easy, if you want to fly jets and helis you'll have to sink many hours just doing that.

if you want to check out dayZ swing by the teamliquid threads, I'm an admin of one of our two servers and we are a pretty friendly bunch, though there's a lot of drama sometimes lol, people can get pretty serious and majorly pissed off

I had a lot of fun playing coop for the most part, its quite short though. What is important is to have a friend to play with, the matchmaking didn't work for me.

The last time I played something remotely similar was CoD MW1, which is quite a while ago though, so I hope the learning curve isn't too brutal :D

trying to get in the habit to "spot" enemies and use my other skills (e.g. medpack) my first try with a helicopter ended in a pretty embarrasing crash 10 meters away ^^ out of habit I've stuck around in team deathmatch rounds the longest though and by far the least favorite so far is rush mode as attacker, ugh... any good tips for a newbie?

Use cover and no need to reload every time you shoot very few bullets. Wait till you are safe!
