Is there something besides graphics? (I am aware of the graphics discrepancies) I prefer to have all my rpgs on 360 for non gameplay reasons. Primarily being that much of the time I am away from home/computer/internet and I appreciate a library of 360 games to play at these times. What are you missing out on gameplay wise? I thought of... 1) graphics 2) Hotkeys are a bitch 3) No mods? Never used any, why does this matter Anything else? P.S. I have a kickass computer that can definitely play this on highest level. How large is the graphics discrepancy between highend pc and 360?

Hotkeys just makes the game flow alot easier, and mods can do pretty much anything, so if there's even the smallest thing bothering you, mod mod change change, and poff, the game is suddenly even better!

OOO and Francescos, and Martigens though.. I highly recommend playing Oblivion with those three, it might as well not be called Oblivion. You can also find mods for cool looking weapons, better textures, more towns/cities, more magic spells, better graphics, new dungeons, new monsters/big boss guys/loot makes more sense.. new high quality quests.. etc. And just hold on for a minute, most of this stuff is about 500x more content than any DLC that will be released and it's completely free. So pretty much by getting on PC you can potentially get infinite more quality content than you can get on console. TES nexus and the tl forums will help you sort through the bad and the good mods, there will be guides to help you get your game working properly with the mods and of course the game will probably have to be out for awhile until the good mods start rolling out. Now I'm an Xbox 360 fan, and I play shooters on console(other than BF3), but when it comes to Oblivion, the console version is pretty much crap compared to the pc content available, just make sure when you go buy this for 360 or PS3 you absolutely just want the vanilla version. Neeh is correct that if you don't like something about the game, you can find a mod to change it. Say you don't like the leveling system or class system, change it. Don't like the UI? Change it. Game is too easy? Change it. Your wooden sword is too powerful at beginning of game, and you don't like how all the enemies scale to your level or whatever BS was in Oblivion? Change it. Want additional races not included, add one. Want a new quest that has a pretty sweet plot, install it. Want a super fucking cool sword that causes those you hit to burst into flames and turn to ash, put it in. Want a sweet looking dragon mount? Probably going to be modded in. Want a spell that turns you into a dragon? Probably going to be modded in. etc

I'd say if you don't mind those 3 things go for the xbox. It really isn't - gameplay benefits of mods is something that I'm pretty sure everybody would appreciate. It's the installation and configuration part that's for the "hardcore people", but anyone can do it really. Here's some advantages of mods I have on my Oblivion right now: - Better graphics, vastly improved NPC models, better looking landscapes, better textures, animated trees and plants and birds and fish etc ![]() - Additional provinces (Elsweyr, Morrowind and Hammerfell) all with unique dungeons, landscapes, monsters etc, basically the world is 3x bigger. - Dual wielding, horse combat and spellcasting, revamped combat mechanics that make combat more interesting (special moves, block, shield bash, kicks etc and all of it carefully balanced). - Bigger diversity of enemies (Dragons!), loot, mounts (Dragons again! xD), and generally a ton of content. New lands, quests, factions, blah blah. - Tons of other added unique gameplay mechanics, especially magic-related. - Better user interface with proper hotkeys, grid display, and other stuff. These are just off the top of my head, there are tons of things that I can't even remember right now. When I'm in the game, I literally no longer remember which part of it is modded and which was there in vanilla and official expansions. It's barely recognizable. Basically when you're considering mods you're asking yourself whether you want tons of free content for the game in the next several years (all of which is of better quality than the vanilla game), or... nothing. You're really missing out on a ton of stuff.

Want a spell that turns you into a dragon? Probably going to be modded in. etc Another thing worth noting is that bethesda games tend to be pretty buggy due to the huge worlds and immense amount of npcs, quests, and variables. If you run into a game breaking bug on a console you either pray you have have an unaffected save to reload or hope bethesda eventually fixes it. But on PC, not only are there many unofficial patch mods available that fix most of those bugs, but if you still run into a huge problem there is usually a developer console command (which ironically is always disabled on the console version) that can fix the issue.

How large is the graphics discrepancy between highend pc and 360? Better graphics, control scheme usually works better, easier to deal with game bugs/glitches with either patches or console commands (bethesda games are notorious for having a ton of bugs/glitches on release), and most importantly the ability to heavily mod the game, and get much faster updates/fixes for the game. The modding is the biggest part, mostly because a lot of people didn't much like vanilla Oblivion, or just thought it was decent, and by installing a simple mod here or there it made the game much more enjoyable for a lot of people. The modding community and content will be no different for Skyrim, you'll see a billion mods released for it over the coming year to enhance and customize your game experience the way you like it.

When i found that out i thought "lol wtf retarded?" i was like level 7 - stolen full glass armor and i just couldnt for the life of me figure out how or why i could achieve the end game scenario at like 10 in game hours. I have now realised that this is NOT what TES is about, its so much more. Roaming the lands exploring, doing quests and crushing skulls is what it is about. Now dont get me wrong, i had a look in a fair few morrowind dungeons and the vanilla mob list - it was shit, nothing cool or epic looking or remotely powerful to fight. A few days ago i installed my unopened copy of Oblivion and modded it with OOO and Mortigens. I spent the last few days clearing out vivien (not sure of exact name, the dungeon on the island straight across from sewers exit at beginning) alone. I have so much fun playing, im level one and get torn apart, any bandit i ran into with anything more then a small sword would crush me, im forced to strafe back spamming minor heal spell and firing arrows. I finally break through the bandits to be chased fully back to the stables near shady sam by four zombies searching for guards to deal with them for me. Only to find skeletons that die in 4 hits to arrows (result!) so i proceed further in and go down to the 2nd level, big mistake! Few steps in, gate comes down behind me and im 2 hit by a spectral dog who came up behind me while i contemplated wether to engage another spectral dude in a big chamber. I just pre ordered skyrim :D:D I apologise for the long ass stupid post, i just wanted to express my find of this awesome game and my first experiences with it. Vanilla TES i feel are quite poor, after experiencing morrowind. but the mods are fucking awesome. See you in 9 days! Im going back to try and crush oblivion before that xD
