Yes, I definately understand your point. But no matter, things WILL get leaked and the public WILL get their hands on content which isn't intended yet. Instead of panicking and devoting a lot of resources into stamping out the leak, would it not be a better idea to adapt to the situation and use it as marketing instead?
I agree with you that the leaks help advertising in all, but as Synapse said earlier, it is a slippery slope. In a way, I think the system works really well as it is now. As you say, the leaks are inevitable and I'm sure we'll see streams go up and down everyday until release. So even if Bethesda shuts down the streams, they get some live time, and many people seem to be watching them. So instead of Bethesda risking the streams get out of hand, they let it up long enough (not purposefully) so that people just get another little taste of it, exciting them even more if they had non-stop pre-release access to it. But at the same time, they're controlling (to an extent) the amount of pre-release information, so both win =)

In fact, that they're so scared of allowing people to show pre-release streams makes me think the game raelly doesn't reach up to the hype, since they're so unwilling to show actual gameplay. They're implying, through their actions, that they're scared of showing their product, which is never a good feeling to get. When your livelihood depends on the product selling as much as humanly possible, you take no chances. I worked for a big budget studio and trust me when I say after working for 3+ years on a project, pouring countless hours of crunch and sacrifice into it, and knowing that your job potentially depends on the success of the game you don't want anything to go wrong. What if a game breaking bug is found? Could very well hurt the ever important day one sales. Anyone that has worked in software development knows that you can't every 100% guarantee a product is bug free. And don't say "you should test it more" because I can tell you short of bio engineering a subset of humans that doesn't eat or sleep, QA is doing it's best with the time and resources given. Since it will happen anyhow, I mean. No, because as you can tell this way only some parts of the game are being leaked (unless you do pirate the game). If you just let them do whatever then the whole game is revealed, and then you got problems.

It's what, 9 days away?
I cant wait =X but i don't want to spoil myself with leaked content D: aah
Would be nice to have all that leaked content shut down, but i can see why it is creating hype.. Are the leaks stuff like computer versions that got hacked? or some guy working at a futureshop smuggling out a copy and livestreaming it?

9-10 day leak seems like a no big deal kind of thing to me. If it's a super early build that gets leaked 6-8 weeks before release, I can see that being huge and potentially damaging. I just don't see a few thousand dickbags on their xbox360s streaming the game for 9-10 days resulting in massive pre-order canceling.
(that all said, i would totally be one of those dickbags if it was the pc version)

I knoww, I can't wait either. It's so hard not to get myself tempted by the streams because 9 days couldn't seem further away! But I want to play the game from the start completely fresh cause I know i'll get the most exciting and true elder scrolls experience that way =)

Hmm I watched some documentaries about ancient mesopotamia some time ago and now I am replaying Morrowind. I noticed a lot of place names like deadric ruins and caves as well as the names of Ashlanders got inspired by them. Best example: Dagoth-Ur. Dagoth being a title, he shared his name 'Ur' with one of the biggest cities of the Sumerians and arguably the 2nd oldest city in the world. There is also the foyada(those lava ravines) Ashur-Dan and a trader named Ashur-Dan. Ashur-Dan II was an Assyrian King who was rebuilding it an who's work lead to Assyria becoming the most powerful nation in the world.

What if someone is hyped but upon seeing the game realizes that he doesn't want it? The reasons that Bethesda don't want this getting out are the same reasons that they make games press sign NDAs- they want to make sure that nothing potentially damaging gets out about their game.

my gamestop bros (i work at the quiznos in the same building complex) gave me some posters. I'll post the pictures, but something that might interest you is the map of skyrim. So wait a moment and I'll update this post.

I'm already playing the game... and holy shit, it is AMAZING.

It blows my mind that people are excited about this game. Hated all of them. No challenge whatsoever... its like a 50+ hour nature hike.
|
^turn the difficulty up, and most of the enjoyment from this game comes from the exploration (or "nature hike", as you put it), not a challenge. Buy Dark Souls if you want that.
|
Well I'm not going to upload all of the pics because I have shitty internet, watching SotG, need to sleep, and the pics (besides the map) aren't very good.
But here is the map:
+ Show Spoiler +
Speculation:
+ Show Spoiler +It seems that the map is divided into providences. With the hint of "different jails in each town" and more factions, I hope these providences are owned by the new factions to make to some of the faction storylines interesting...maybe two factions will clash and you will need to choose one over the other in the end.
|
^Skyrim is in the middle of a civil war at this point AFAIK, so that would make sense. It also showed up in New Vegas (I know Bethesda didn't make it but still) so I could see faction alignments being a thing. Also, your image is broken.

fixed the image. imgur is being buggy as hell right now. also the poster map does cut off a little to the right of the Eastmarch label.

People do that every single Elder Scrolls game. Don't let it bother you. It's the type of game that grows on you, and becomes fuckin incredible once some good PC mods come out.

TES is probably the most mod-friendly series ever. If you want challenge install some mods for that. Give the game 6 months and you can turn it in to a completely new game every couple weeks if you wanted. And if you played TES on consoles... well.. I feel bad for you.

What other posters did you get? The Skyrim food truck thing from PAX came by my campus a couple weeks ago so I got some cup holders and skyrim branded bottle openers but nothing as cool as that.

I haven't preordered many games on Steam, can you pre-download most of the game before 11.11.11, or do I need to DL the game the day of?
