Pages of self-drawn maps of the world as you explore. Think of how cool it would be to compare your psuedo-map to the map of the game once you finish it, after not looking at the actual map once. Every quest you take, you must take notes of what you must do in the Journal and further notes as you continue through the quest. You can use tacks or other forms of temporary marking for current quests on your drawn maps. Are your bodies ready for the most intense damn experience of your life? Sorry I've played Demon/Dark Souls, there's no way not having a map can compare to having the possibility of dying at any second in the game. Although it does seem intriguing ^^

When I heard i'm getting a cloth map with the copy I thought it'd be cool to only use that map and dont open the ingame one, altho you guys go one step further haha. Sounds awesome, but a bit too time consuming I'd say.

Any suggestion on where to pre order this for PC? Amazon only has the map and 10 dollar credit for consoles, and the outrageously overpriced special edition for PC.

That's not so bad, I would say Diablo 2 hardcore is much worse, in 1 second you can lose 3 months playtime.

You also lose humanity which is not as big of a deal, but still lame. In Diablo HC you can lose 3 months play in one second, but in DS's you can lose 3 months to get past one second of gameplay. Both are brutal.

Ok lets not be ridiculous here. These Dark Soul rumors are getting out of control imo.
I played the game, and for ez-mode console standards, that game is very refreshing, I like it a lot. Very much enjoyed it. That being said, its not like its some impossible feat or something, details are left out here and there, u have to discover a few things. Combat can be challenging and unforgiving.
All that being said, I ran through the game at a fairly normal pace. Only a few "throw the controller at the wall" moments. Totally amazing game by console standards, but lets no get ridiculous and make it out to be on par with Diablo 2 hardcore.
I mean....you can even get you souls back if you just run to your body. Come on.

Fucking hell I can't wait for 2 more weeks T.T. Oblivion was such an experience can't wait for what new music Jeremy Soule has made and to explore the wilds and towns of Skyrim!

Wahh wahhh I'm not buying because it's six gigs and that tower looks ugly. Wahh Wahh baby want bottle! Looooool.

Permadeath mod usually gets out quickly for all Bethesda games.
Besides, if you can already make yourself ignore the maps and journal, you can also make yourself delete save games upon dying. It doesn't have to be built into the game.

Hey guys, I'm playing Oblivion, but I THINK I installed the OOO mod. Only problem is, I can't tell if it's doing anything because I didn't play much Oblivion in the first place >.<
Any immediately telling signs as to if it's working?
Leather journal bought for Skyrim btw <3

When you drop a torch on the ground, it should stay lit (if you went with the default installation). Also when you open a chest or a container it should have an opening animation and remain open (which isn't the case in vanilla).
By the way, I'm not sure you saw it since I edited it in later on, but a few pages back I replied to your post where you asked for other recommended mods.

Was that where you pointed to the site with the 4 or so mods bundled together? If so I remember deciding that the time taken to get it all working wouldn't justify the time I'd spend playing it, since I'm really only tiding over til Skyrim. Have it bookmarked though in case I go back to Oblivion at some point!

I have a question about the lvl scaling. Imagine this, say the second quest of the dark brotherhood gives you a bow, in oblivion the bow was stronger when you did the quest at lvl 15 than if u were to do it on lvl 2(I think?). Is this completely gone in Skyrim as in you'll get the same bow regardless of your lvl when completing the quest? And how about the monsters, does it happen that you encounter shit that rapes you instantly and youll have to come back when youre stronger? The absence of that is in my opinion the worst part about oblivion...

If they have a map in the game world on a wall or something I will use that, but it's not going to be nearly detailed enough to do more than give me a sense of scale. I hope someone mods the map, quest pointer (and maybe journal) out.
Fuck a compass, use the in-game sun and moon. :p Good for knowing what time of day it is too.
I'm seriously considering doing this mapping thing as well. Or if I give up on that, at the very least I am DEFINITELY not fast traveling.

I wouldn't fast travel regardless. In games where you can find all manner of cool hidden stuff that just doing the storyline, or even sidequests, you might NEVER find, I don't understand why I would. These games aren't "OH I GOTTA WIN RIGHT NOW"... not on the first playthrough anyway.

hmm digital download or instore pickup

That journal skyrim thing sounds so fun in theory lol.

You need a map in games, because our spatial orientiation skillz get fucked up when we always stare at the screen straight ahead. This is accentuated by sudden transitions between area/cells, textures repeating themselves, limited field of vision (you need to turn your "body" to turn your "head"), etcetera.
Of course, in the outdoors of tamriel you can do quite well with a compass and the scenery. Indoors is another story. Most dungeons were very simple, following a tree structure, so you could for example always keep left to explore it completely depth-first. But for example I would always get lost in the Imperial forts in morrowind, because there would be 5 identical staircase-towers at 5 corners of the building, how do you tell which is which? Other games have more complicated dungeons and it's even easier to lose orientation, cfr. for example springvale elementary school in fallout.
