It's just that I'm gamer which when playing doesn't care a lot about graphics, but as a professional 3D game artist I find it weird that such a sucky tower exists in this game. Sorry for releasing the devil ![]()

Having played so many Bioware games that have some freedom but still give you story I feel like Bethesda games give you too much freedom. So much so that you get lost and forget the main story of the game. I dunno it could just be me I suppose. Like I said still on the fence. I plan on forgetting about the main quest. I even plan on finding the direction I'm "supposed" to go and go the total opposite direction. These games are made for that kind of gameplay. I personally can't fucking wait. 11/11/11 will go down in history.

1) Are the Elder Scrolls games built on previous ones in any way at all? I gather they all take place in the same world at least so it seems like previous game at least have some imput on what you know about whats going on? 2) How long does it take on average to play through the whole "story" of Oblivion if you wander around a moderate amount. (Not speedrunning or anything in the least, just normal play) I basically am curious if its <40 hours or so, or if I have no chance of finishing in a couple weeks. 3) Am I supposed to be constantly switching between bow and arrows and melee weapons depending on what particular baddie is running at me right that second? lol

Me love you long time if you do.. ![]() Extra Credits had an episode about DLC, but I can't find it atm. The reason you're hearing about DLC before the game is even out, is it: Near the end of a production (usually between when the game is done and shipping), there is suddenly a lot of time for the developers where they don't have anything to do. They either jump on a new project, or start working on those DLCs. If they where to put the DLCs in the game, then the game would have to be delayed, and this cycle would last forever. Or, which is the case a lot of the time, it's content that was cut from the game. Prime example would be Deus Ex: HR. They said before they started cutting content, the game would take well over 120 hours to finish. Most games are like this, just not in that extreme. Lots of content is cut from the final game for various reasons. Repackaging this cut content and selling it as "DLC" is a very common tactic for developers. When you cut content from a game, you cut it. You don't built it, then leave it aside to collect dust until it's 'DLC time' and throw it on the web. It's literally not made at all. DLC is always made AFTER the game has gone gold. Whether it was in the original design document for the game or not, it's all built from scratch at that point (besides the re-using of art where appropriate). Content can get cut from a game for many different reasons but the primary three are 1) Budget/resources 2) Time 3) Quality P.S. 'Quality' can be vague. But, in general, more content does not imply a better product. For example, Assassin's Creed 1 might have been a better game if it had less content and more effort was put into making the experience a lot less repetitive.

I think its you that's having a hard time distinguishing between something that gets put into a game design document (just words on a piece of paper), and something that actually gets physically coded/drawn/implemented into the final product as the years roll on.

I actually really liked ffxiii and all dragonage. I had never played any of The Elder Scrolls, but the twitch.tv adds for this game got me excited so I went out and bought Oblivion to try and play through before Skyrim came out. Only played one night so far, but while having fun getting used to controls and gameplay and all that stuff, still trying to figure out the story. So some questions. There are almost no tie-ins between Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion except that you learn a bit more about the general lore, history, races, cultures etc - but nothing essential really. Every game takes place in a different province, so in the physical sense you're not really adventuring in the same world anyway. You can pick up and play any of them without ever feeling you're missing out on something. 2) I would say yes to under 40 hours, but "moderate amount of wandering" is very vague. I did it in 2 days by mostly sticking to the main quest line, but not all the time (I picked up on side quests that I ran into, but didn't actively look around for any or go anywhere for no reason). 3) Not sure I understand the question. It's pretty intuitive really. If enemy far away shoot him, else hack at him. ![]() On October 29 2011 06:34 IMABUNNEH wrote: As an aside to the useless arguments in this thread, does anyone have any suggestions of mods to run alongside OOO to improve the gameplay experience? I'm not looking for rubbish like OMG NAKED PEOPLE, but quality textures, improved gameplay etc... anything that works well with it? There's plenty. ![]() Also, most important is the F-COM, which is the combination of major overhauls including OOO, MMM, WarCry and eh... I can't remember the 4th. Normally they overlap and have plenty of conflicts. However, following the guides in there you can get all 4 of them working together smoothly, which completely upgrades your game and gives you amazing stuff. Most of them do require Shivering Isles, the latest patch (or just the GOTY edition) and a couple of utility tools like Wrye Bash and OBSE. It takes up to a few hours to set it all up and you can have some headaches during the installation process, but it's very very worth it.
