This is on my 2-handed bash your skull in Nord warrior alt. So all I did was free Thorvald Grey-Mane and the Thalmor are sending out hit squads after me. I was going to leave the Dark Brotherhood alone but someone performed the Dark Sacrament and wants me dead. Hmmm.
+ Show Spoiler +I just got back from clearing Glenmoril Coven for Kodlak and the Silver Hand attacked Jorrvaskr when I was gone. AND KILLED KODLAK. Maybe Aela and I shouldn't have butthurt them so much. Still...
After I'm done wiping out the Silver Hand and the Dark Brotherhood, the Thalmor and General Tullius are getting Ulfric's sword and mine right up their asses. Shit just got real.

AFAIK they all do the same DPS but maces have the slowest swing speed, followed by axes, followed by swords (fastest). I'm sure you can think of the implications of that yourself. I find that swords are best for me as a 1H + shield user as it allows me to squeeze in attacks easier in between blocking enemy attacks, but it's not that big a deal.

they're good games, but you don't need to know anything that happened in previous games to play skyrim
if the main reason you want to do that is to get a feel for the plot, read every single book you pick up
one of the cool things they do in the elder scrolls series is that books never go out of print, you can even find the commentaries on mysterium xarxes, a set of books you needed to get in order to beat oblivion
i played a bunch of oblivion in the first half of this year and i feel the game has aged pretty well overall
but i would definitely play skyrim first, then go back and play the other two

If you're going 1h+shield then go sword. If you're going dual wield, which I would recommend because it's fucking imba once you've gotten the 3 bonus perks for it, I think axes are better if you get the bleed perks for them, but since all you really want to do is kill everything as quickly as possible, you really should use maces since they ignore armor with their bonus perks.

I finally finished the game after 200 hours....and eventually I'll get even more playtime out of this game when people make new worlds/complete overhaul mods =D I feel that the game was way too easy on the hardest difficulty though but I'm sure there will be some mods to increase the difficulty/nerf some things/make the enemy ai better.
Tips for new players/Some things I wish I had/hadn't done to make my 1st playthrough even better: 1. Don't put off the main quest (but don't do it first either)! Like a lot of people here seem to be doing, I waited until I finished everything and when I finally got to the main quest I could just fast travel to all the destinations and was already invincible/one hit killed everything (even the last boss). After spending so much time doing everything else it feels really underwhelming.
2. If you're like me and have to pick up everything valuable you find...don't explore Riften last -__- In fact you should explore in that direction first.
3. If you want to get more than one crafting skill, don't use them to improve eachother. It makes the game a complete cakewalk. + Show Spoiler +I enchanted armor for +alchemy, used it to make a potion for +enchanting, used that to make even better +alchemy armor enchants, which I wore to make an even better +alchemy enchant..etc until they capped out (thankfully it caps out very quickly). Then I used both alchemy/enchanting to get +smithing and made ridiculous upgraded/enchanted daedric weapons/dragon armor. I ended up being immune to magic and dual wielding 600 damage swords.
4. Don't explore every cave/dungeon you run into. Wait till you have a quest to go there or maybe check out the first room to see if a quest is started inside. So many times I got a quest to do somethign I already did and it feels really lame when some guy tells me a long story about how _____ has been lost forever and he spent the last 20 years trackign it down and then you pull it out of your pocket two seconds later. Sometimes you miss out on a lot of dialogue/lore and quest steps if you finished an objective too (I even skipped a whole branch of the main quest) And the most annoying part is when you can't finish a quest at all because you broke it by doing something out of order before you even knew it was a quest.

This is a very good post, every new player should read this basically. Also I hope someone releases a huge fix ( maybe bethesda itself but I doubt it ) for 4, and fixes all the broken quests.

So I broke into Sven's house in Riverwood and stole a bunch of hides and alchemy reagents to get started. Later, his mom sends a bunch of thugs to kick my ass. Had to run around like a retard and exploit terrain to not die. I rewarded her by separating her uppermost vertebra from the base of her skull in her sleep.
Then I saw Sven walking home from the bar after a long night of endlessly performing Ragnar The Red. Murdered him in his sleep, too. Then, as I run outside, a Courier runs up and hands me a note from Faendal who happened to be standing right the fuck next to me the whole time. The letter thanked me for Sven's murder.
Shit, dude, you could've just patted me on the back after I axed him right then and there, no need to somehow metaphysically send a courier from fuck knows where just to congratulate me on being a prick.
Guess it's the thought that counts, then.

You lose well rested and rested bonuses from sleeping, that's it.

according to wiki, if you turn vampire:
While outside during daylight, health, magicka and stamina will not regenerate. Weakness to fire
|
There's a hell of a lot more to being a vampire than that. Specifically you're weaker to Fire and Sunlight... At Stage 3 Vampire you take double damage from fire and people attack you on sight.

Maces has the best specialization perk. The armor penetration is REALLY noticeable when you are fighting armored opponents (an armored/shielded opponent just go splat from one of your power attacks with a mace like normal mobs). Swords scale the best with enchants and its speed allows you to block/hit effectively without "getting stuck" in an attack animation. Swords are more efficient in fighting grunts: there will eventually be a lot of trash mobs which just dies in a single sword hit. As swords are lighter, power attacks will also cost less stamina (a pair of drainheart swords will allow you to spam power attacks continuously as they weight next to nothing and leeches 15 stam per hit).

Are the perks higher up in the One-handed tree just for cool kill moves? Are they all worth getting?

i just started, only lvl 6 now, and i play a one-hand/shield /heavy armor tank. i wonder, what magic would be worth adding? and do i have to spend points in magicka for it?

On December 04 2011 21:50 NB wrote: is it worthed to become a vampire or werewolf? i need to know bc im about to fight a vamp quest right now I equate being a werewolf to having a nice overland travel minigame. Say you have a destination that's a good six inches by map away from the nearest explored area? Wolf the hell out, maul anything you find en route. Breaks up the monotony of overland travel when you A: Just wanna go there quickly, and B: Mess up some deer and goats on the way.
You feel somewhat squishy in wolf form though, I didn't explore a lot of the mechanical nuances of staying alive in wolf form. What should've amounted to an orc berserk racial style emergency cooldown basically became a cool minigame to make you run really fast and kill critters. In meaningful combat I have difficulty recommending it, as you lose your ability to use weapons, armor, most magic, and powers (you get a choice between three specific powers to use in wolf form, that can only be changed once a day and only in the alcove beneath Skyforge.).
That said, if you can use Berserk and then go into Beast Form with Berserk active, you could actually have a decent time of things in a real combat situation.

Learn the spells first, and then you'll see how much mana they cost. The majority of the time, Novice and Apprentice spells don't cost more than the mana pool you start with, and if they're worth having, they might be worth getting the perk for and/or enchanting some of your armor to reduce their casting cost. Some alteration talents are worth it, Illusion is really strong, as is Restoration. Conjuration is the pet tree and remains useful situationally for every character archetype in the game on its own if you ignore the impact it might have on the overall intended aesthetic direction of your character. If you plan to go half mage, then Destruction and Restoration give you good off-hand options to wield alongside a solid 1h weapon such as the Mace of Molag Bal or Chillrend.

I'd say I'd only pass these up if you're making a sneak-based character and getting The Gloves. If you're making a toe-to-toe fighter they're definitely worth taking, one gives you a closing mechanism, one an extraction mechanism, and the other makes what you'd normally be doing otherwise do more damage, all for one point each. I know if I had a floating point and my character was otherwise fleshed out to my liking, and the choice was between one of these talents or something shitty like going from +20 sneak to +25 sneak, the answer would be pretty obvious to me at that point, but your mileage will probably vary.
