I have plenty of magicka but I am not able to buy any of the higher level spells (i am stuck on conjure flame atronahc for a long time), presumably because of my low level.
Similarly, I am not able buy/craft higher level armor and weapons, although I have plenty of cash and even some raw materials needed.
I feel like I am just stuck with mediocre stuffs and spells for too long. Nobody else has any thoughts on this? I guess I need to wait for mods to add more craftable stuff and armours?
you cant buy high level spells because you are probably a low level character.
you cant buy high level armour because you are a low level character.
there isnt really much more to say here.
Your best bet to get good spells is talking to the respective trainers in the college of winterhold. They sell you the spells appropriate for your level.

Spells are sold based on skill level, not character level.

that's why I added that he should take a look at the trainers shops in winterhold.

The best place to buy spells is the Winterhold Mage College.

Yeah, I am talking to phinus (the conjuration mage there) and the same story. I guess I need just level more enthusiastically..

oh my god i spent an hour on the last room in the revealing the unseen (mage college quest) because shit didn't work then i went online and read this
Some video card and driver combinations don't draw the light rays in the Oculary, causing the quest to be nearly impossible to complete. The beams of light wouldn't show up -_-. Finally got it done though, yay

Don't worry, I just mashed buttons until it worked too despite seeing the rays of light. It's just weird to control IMO. Same with the one in the main quest.
Just finished the main quest with my mage. I did the majority of side quests, got most shouts, explored almost eveywhere, etc. But in the end, I was getting bored of it.
I started a 2h/bow warrior. Level 7 so far, and I'm taking a different approach with him. With my mage, I was exploring a ton and doing quests randomly but this time I'm going to clear 1 town at a time. Having a lot more fun so far without free dual thunderbolt (a spell which my mage can't even cast 1 of without the cost reduction lol...).
I'm also using the 3rd person view more (impossible to aim like that with a mage) and it's pretty cool. I decided to be an axe user just because I find they look cooler. So far I'm decked out in steel. Going to have to find a dwemer dungeon to get some dwarven ores soon though. I'm doing every minor thing, even cutting wood and helping with the mill in Riverwood; picking up crops and shit lol. Makes it more involving. I cleared 2 mines already (well, 1 was a bandit cave) and with the glowing ore mod, I got so much iron. I have like 100 iron. Pretty much going to try and clear 100% of the game except unending repeatable quests.
Biggest difference is I decided to use followers with this guy as opposed to be a lone wolf with my mage. Helps me carry all my stuff because I got used to having a house and being able to store anything.
My only complaint so far is the fatality animations when I kill enemies. They are fun when you kill big enemies or bosses but not every other kill like it's going so far. Going to have to find a way to change that.

I had the same problem. There was no light and I had no clue what I was supposed to do. After I read online that you were suppose to move the lights I got even more confused. Then I saw a video and realized that I just couldn't do it with my settings. I had to use console command to proceed.
There are a ton of glitches in the game. I had a horse drop from the sky to his doom near White Run once. Another time I got into a blocked off door by falling through the top of an entrance. I also had a dragon corpse appear in a place I never fought a dragon at. Also had the glitch where you couldn't get past one of the rooms of a dungeon (forget the name but it was a dwemer ruin that leads to Black Reach) because the "gear puzzle" doesn't reset properly the second time you enter the dungeon. There are also a million tiny glitches. Also annoying that the bard instruments get stuck in your inventory, even after completing the quest, taking up some valuable room.
The game is pretty awesome though.

For some reason I cant fast travel, when I click on the map it removes the map. Is this part of the update or something? Whats up with it?
|
That was the first major glitch I got. Luckily the same thing I found online just told me to do this: + Show Spoiler +To complete the quest without being able to see the light beams, first move the green mirrors on the ceiling into their correct positions first - press the middle button 6 times (so the mirror moves 6 positions), the left one 1 time, and the right one 5 times. Then strike the crystal with several short bursts of frost until Paratus begins talking and the quest updates. Worked perfectly, hopefully other people with the same problem will find this, lol

just got a bug... ugh
i still hold the skeleton key so i didn't quite finish thieves' guild yet, but i noticed today that whenever i use it, although the skeleton key image comes up, it has that lockpick breaking sound when i failed the pick, and sure enough, my lockpick stock was going down
hopefully that doesn't come up again, i really wanted to boost my lockpicking to 100

Is it worth it to play through Morrowind and Oblivion before I get this game? I have always wanted to play those, though in ways I kind of want to skip to this one since this is where the community is at. I was also thinking get all 3 on th Steam Christmas sale and just alternate between the 3 as I get bored with one of them
|
They aren't linearly progressive in any way. The only reason to do it imo is that the graphics of the older ones will seem really bad after Skyrim.
Also, the main story is kind of not the point of these games so much... I honestly don't see any reason to play oblivion at all instead of Skyrim.

Morrowind and Oblivion are both massive games, like Skyrim, if you get into it and do all the side stuff, so if you play them both before Skyrim you're looking at quite a time investment. If you want to wait to play Skyrim until more mods come out, that makes sense, but I don't think there's any real reason to play them first. Skyrim is the newest and probably most polished (in terms of gameplay), so I would just play that, personally. If you do Morrowind and Oblivion first you also run the risk of getting burned out on Elder Scrolls, because they're still quite similar in many ways. If you just go straight into Skyrim, I think you'll be more immersed in it as a new experience and probably enjoy it more, just in my opinion.
