You may try the setstage "questid" "stage" command if you're already on the quest, but if you need to get a new quest, there is no fix for that as of yet, since the startquest command does nothing. Really annoys me because I can't get further on the mainquest because of this on my warrior character, and I really don't want to do it on my assasin one.
awesome. i got the quest fixed =] thank you all for your help. much appreciated

Bitchez gonna bitch.
I think all it takes to enjoy the hell out of this game is letting yourself do so. At first I tried to complete the main quest ASAP and thought "well this is ok.." Then I made a new Char and focused on side quests and development, now I am level 25 not as far as my first one on the main quest (level 8) but it is sooo much fun. I think the goal of the game is you and you alone, to create a person capable of doing whatever needs to be done and to explore everything. Some people don't see that or think that this is stupid. I would advise those to stick to hack'n slay rather than RPG.

When I started I played a bow assassin, got it up to level 40 or so and still had yet to go to Solitude in the main quest. Spent 31 hours on that. Then I dropped that character, made a similar one, but this time I did more of the stuff that could gain levels without fighting. Like getting my archery to 50 and level to 11 before getting out of Riverwood, leveling smithing and pickpocketing without leaving Whiterun and other stuff. Now I'm level 53 with 61 hours played, my bow does 640 damage per shot and I'm done with the main quest. I will continue to play, but now dungeons will be more of a speed run "kill everything with bow while running" type instead of "explore slowly and bring everything home!" type.
|
I love this game... at the start I ran straight in the other direction than for the main quest. I ended up in Solitude now... I don't want to read to much spoilers, but that place seems kinda important :D.
Anyway, I am having so much fun just walking around, getting chased by sabre cats (those are strong and fast... ouch).
I also have the tendency to clear out everything I see on my way, so everything is taking me soooo long, and that's totally cool!

I want to do everything in this game but I don't want to join the Thieves guild, Dark Brotherhood or just steal overall T_T. Might seem weird considering my character is an argonian with Diablo horns but I just don't want to play a bad character.

I just created my second character over the weekend (a male Khajiit). I decided that since I've already experienced the majority of the game in a more organic way, I decided to go all out trader with this one. I'm now at level 35-36 with 100 Smithing, 100 Alchemy, 100 Enchanting, and ~80 Speech (all with various perks in each skill to maximize the value of the items that I made). I'm now capable of just going from vendor-to-vendor making end-game tier items, potions that sell for well over 1k each, and all of this without having touched a single quest or monster beyond the opening dungeon.
Funny thing is, I had a BLAST making those shopkeeps, blacksmiths, alchemists, and court-wizards broke and penniless.
Next step, time to abuse the Crafting trinity.

Well, you might want to do mostly all of the main quests that fit your character, then when you feel like you're "finished", go do the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood just for the sake of doing it. example: I don't want to do the Mage College quests because I don't use magic, and I don't want to do the Dark Brotherhood cause my character isn't that evil. Thieves Guild is still fair territory because I needed the money. But after I finish the Civil War quest (doing that last), I'll go do the Dark Brotherhood and Mage College quest just for the sake of experiencing them, even if it is out of my element.

I hate this game. I am trying to do various major quests but I cannot stop myself from exploring anything I run across or get a quest for as a result I am lvl34 Mage and only now joined the Mage college (and still needed to skip a bunch of places to explore just so I would get to see winterhold :D) and I only done quests around first city and a bit east.
Btw, my destruction is at 64 and levels real slow now, how do I make it faster?
Also where do I find some alchemy recepies that give bonuses to different skills?

There is another alternative for those not wanting to join the Dark Brotherhood...
+ Show Spoiler [Alternate Dark Brotherhood] +If you accept the child's request to kill the woman in the orphanage (the game goes out of it's way to make this as morally correct as murder can be) then you'll find yourself kidnapped next time you sleep.
You'll wake up being held captive by a member of the Dark Brotherhood who tells you there are 3 hostages and you need to decide who isn't leaving the room. Picking her as the person who doesn't leave the room and killing the assassin results in a quest line to wipe out the scourge of the Dark Brotherhood.
It's true the rewards and quest line aren't as good or as long but it is a valid completion method that was accounted for by developers.

Wow learned something new and somehow want to try it out... but haven't even done the Dark Brotherhood yet. Is it good? i thought Thieves guild was pretty fun, more so than the main story. + Show Spoiler +OFC i didn't do all the repeatable quests, which are too boring for me although they give a reward if you complete them all.

I have to say the Dark Brotherhood quests themselves I did find enjoyable if, as with the other guilds, a little short. I preferred the thieves guild myself though, and I'm trying to complete all the side quests to properly finish it at the moment. Dark Brotherhood does seem to have something similar but I'm not sure if it's as important yet.
+ Show Spoiler +The alternate method I posted is basically just one quest with no radiants though.

From what I hear, the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild are the two lengthy (relative to the other quests) and all-around good quest chains (that isn't the main quest) in the game. I wouldn't pass it up imo.

If you go to the Briar-Black Meadery in Riften, you can ask the guy in the store about Maven, persuade him, and level your speech up to 100 by continuing to ask the same and persuade him. That can be done at any part of the game.
Professions are pretty fun, once you get to a certain level you pretty much can't lose gold on them, and you make more and more powerful stuff. For example in the start of the game I was running around with a bow doing 14 damage per shot. Now when I've got a bow as powerful as I can get it, with all relevant perks in enchanting/smithing/alchemy/archery needed to get it there, I do 640 damage per shot, not counting in enchants or any potion I could drink.

It's cool that you have the option to "deny" the Dark Brotherhood if you want a good character.

Is there anything at all that is still fun killing at the point where you have a 640 damage bow?

Draugr Deathlords (dreadlords) take two normal shots to kill, the last boss in the game took 5 shots. However, being at that level is only interesting when I know I worked my way up, if I got that at level 1 it wouldn't be any fun.

In my case, my character is a economical genius, having more value in his pinky than any other business in all of Skyrim. Upon cornering the alchemy, enchanting, and smithing markets in the province, he grows bored of the lack of competition and sets his sights upon the summons of Jarl of Whiterun, where he dispatches his first dragon soon after. Realizing a whole new horizon to dominate, he takes his ruthless ambition and soon claims dominance over all dragons... and all mortals. ______________
This is where it would be appropriate to have a 640 damage bow. When everything around you is but a toy or trinket to amuse you.

So far as I know they've said they're not releasing details of the patch but Pete Hines said on his Twitter:
Should be first half of next week for all three updates.
