Well 'finished', i completed the main story line, did the mage and civil war quests and a few random stuff here and there. Overall I thought there were some awesome things about the game but the negative parts really overshadowed it for me. Before the end I already felt bored but finished it simply to see the end of the main story which was dissapointing as well. First of all the vastness of the world and the beauty of some of the sights are amazing (as long as your setup can handle it ofcourse). The freedom and map design and everything are quite cool too. Also some of the quests and random things that happen in the world are great too, best moments I think were when dragons did battle with giants and when they suddenly arrived in villages landing on top of roofs etc. The list of negative things is MUCH larger though so let's begin: The worst by far are all the terrible bugs. I guess many will get modded out but that's not till some time so I don't call that a proper solution. Many bugs are simply gamebreaking, I've had 2 times where a bug simply caused the main quest line to stop and at least 5 other occasions where other quests bugged and i had to reload or do something weird. The main quest bugs could only be solved by looking on the internet and sometimes doing stuff in console or fixing some files. + Show Spoiler + First Esbern wouldn't open the door/ speak had to extract sound files, after that I couldn't get directions where the elder scroll was had to look that up on internet to be able to proceed. These bugs in conjunction with the terrible interface can make some things truly annoying. Not being able to unequip the right hand properly frustated me immensely and could only be solved by using the hotkeys for me. The left hand attack with the mouse was also bugged for me which was just terribly annoying too (I switched using spells from right hand mostly to solve that). Even selecting a proper perk to advance or just enchanting stuff or finding things can be a complete hassle in this game, just such a lazy port. As for actual gameplay things many parts suck too. The leveling system sucks in many parts because you level by how much you 'use' a certain thing. The idea is nice but this just flat out fails with some things. For example I was trying to be a shield-mage at first using shield for extra blocking and some bashes and spells to fire. As mage you try to avoid getting hit though so blocking wouldn't level at all... (I switched to simply dual casting later). Leveling smithing and enchanting is a chore too, both seem to rely on the number of items enchanted/forged and not so much what quality, thus leveling this just leads to making endless iron daggers/leather bracers and enchanting them with petty souls. Just NOT a fun mechanic at all.. Some other trees you don't use too much (conjuration perhaps) you simply can't level well without spamming needless spells to do so. It's just a chore, the traditional system of gaining XP on killing and then choosing what you level is TONS better. The balance of some perks is also just horrible. Most here know that smithing and enchanting is quite broken. Smithing is just too good for warriors by rushing to some tuned ebony armor or daedric armor set, enchanting is even more broken for mages by stacking -% costs on your most used spell tree (probably destruction). With a good potion and enough level in enchanting you can get that quite quickly and it doesn't evne cost you that many perks, nor does smithing. Some of the lvl 100 perks are also just broken that by the point you get there (which can be quite fast for some tree's) it just completely alters the game, from having trouble with adept to breezing through masters. Finally many perks tree's are just poorly designed imo and just no fun. Light and heavy armor tree are the most boring 'add +x%' with every point basically. Speech and lockpicking feel a complete waste either as those parts should really be side material imo. Some styles of play like using a staff are also not properly supported by any perks which is a waste. Then the final thing in which this game failed and most important: combat. There are tons of playstyles possible in this game but they feel a bit shallow on their own (and you'll likely be forced to follow one style mostly). The spells especially just disapointed me.. All destruction spells were basically boring copies of eachother with a different element and different projectile speed. There were no cool spells which really used one element. Restoration and alteration are also just utterly boring tree's which basically only give heal and some armor that you really use. Illusion is ok but conjuration sucked as well because the AI in this game sucks. Followes annoy the hell out of me and many enemies are completely stupid too. Many fights and quests lacked interaction too. Never many guys too fight against (10 max in the civil war quests i think) and very linear play. Except for kiting and jumping here and there or the occasional trap there also felt way too little interaction with the environment, they could have used that so much more imo. It all just leads to the game becoming very bland quickly. Overall verdict: it starts very promising but becomes bland and even irritating very soon. I just finished it as I don't like leaving things incomplete but it wasn't worth it. After achieving virtual godmode through either enchanting or smithing there is no challenge left at all really. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10. How all those sites call this the game off the year and give it 9+ scores really puzzles me, did they never run into game ending bugs? is the game that much better on console? did they just not notice the poor combat system / perks? I agree with you on most stuff but it seems like you're looking extra hard on the negatives. I'm still enjoying the game and already put more hours into it than any other single player game this year except for dark souls (and its getting close to that too). The amount of content is amazing and the world is still fun to explore for me (unlike oblivion). I'd give it 9/10 for that alone. Playing as a pure mage I also found conjugation to be the most useful tree and not really that hard to level. I guess it depends the way you play it...you can grind out smithing/enchanting to make godlike unkillable chars but that's not really fun to me. The game would get extremely boring that way. I played both my characters so far without focusing on crafting at all and I'm still having fun. So to each his own I suppose D:

There should be a console command to revive NPCs, not sure offhand though. UESP probably has that info up already, thought I saw it earlier in this thread too.

To be fair. Most puzzles are annoyingly simple and serve nothing but a way to stop you for a minute. A few puzzles are pretty fun though, and involve some in-game literature.
