Just wondering if anybody has hit quest issues, because ive hit 2
1: some man ran up to me and gave me something, then he tried to run when i man who was chasing him approched, he tried talking to me but got killed by spiders, same with the other guy and now that questline is fkd
2: had to steal a horse for someone because the man that was to give it to him was in jail, so I brought the horse to the town but when i got off, the horse flew away, I've been searching for that horse for so long but can't find him
also, aboot modding, is it possible (if not now, eventually) to create my own quests and story-line? Im new to computer gaming for the most part

As a warrior I spent a lot of time trying to find the best DPS companion I could. None of the archer types attacked fast enough.
I ended up going with the random merc in the inn in Riften (the mage) and wow is he amazing. I'm 28ish and he spams chain lightning and fireballs like a machine gun while buffing himself with alteration and being decent at kiting. I gave him a staff of chain lightning but I don't see him equiping it (so I assume the one he cast is just his own). Since I gave him the thief chain armor he looks like a sith lord following me around.
I'd recommend him for any warrior.

On your first issue; that guy isn't a quest, I'm pretty sure it's a random event. First guy gives you something, second guy asks if you've seen someone run here. Then you can say where he went/give him the item/say you didn't see anyone. Second guy kills first guy. (doesn't even get mentioned in misc iirc).

I've got a small problem: I found finn's lute before the bard quest, got the quest then later and handed it in to the woman. The lute was still in my inventory and marked as a quest item so i manually removed it by a console command. But I still have the quest logged in my journal which annoys me. I tried using "setstage BardsCollegeLute 200" as suggested here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Finn's_Lute , without success. It doesn't disappear. Does anyone else know another console command or a better way to solve this?
edit: XD found the solution just after my post. It's not 200 but 40 to complete the quest.

Game feels completely barren without a companion in my opinion. It's nice having someone with you. Lydia and I have had some pretty good adventures and I pretty much run screaming to her whenever a bear shows up...
Also she doesn't give a fuck. Dragon? She goes at it. She's the real hero...

I just finished the game after having played a couple days. Well 'finished', i completed the main story line, did the mage and civil war quests and a few random stuff here and there. Overall I thought there were some awesome things about the game but the negative parts really overshadowed it for me. Before the end I already felt bored but finished it simply to see the end of the main story which was dissapointing as well.
First of all the vastness of the world and the beauty of some of the sights are amazing (as long as your setup can handle it ofcourse). The freedom and map design and everything are quite cool too. Also some of the quests and random things that happen in the world are great too, best moments I think were when dragons did battle with giants and when they suddenly arrived in villages landing on top of roofs etc. The list of negative things is MUCH larger though so let's begin: The worst by far are all the terrible bugs. I guess many will get modded out but that's not till some time so I don't call that a proper solution. Many bugs are simply gamebreaking, I've had 2 times where a bug simply caused the main quest line to stop and at least 5 other occasions where other quests bugged and i had to reload or do something weird. The main quest bugs could only be solved by looking on the internet and sometimes doing stuff in console or fixing some files. + Show Spoiler +First Esbern wouldn't open the door/ speak had to extract sound files, after that I couldn't get directions where the elder scroll was had to look that up on internet to be able to proceed. These bugs in conjunction with the terrible interface can make some things truly annoying. Not being able to unequip the right hand properly frustated me immensely and could only be solved by using the hotkeys for me. The left hand attack with the mouse was also bugged for me which was just terribly annoying too (I switched using spells from right hand mostly to solve that). Even selecting a proper perk to advance or just enchanting stuff or finding things can be a complete hassle in this game, just such a lazy port. As for actual gameplay things many parts suck too. The leveling system sucks in many parts because you level by how much you 'use' a certain thing. The idea is nice but this just flat out fails with some things. For example I was trying to be a shield-mage at first using shield for extra blocking and some bashes and spells to fire. As mage you try to avoid getting hit though so blocking wouldn't level at all... (I switched to simply dual casting later). Leveling smithing and enchanting is a chore too, both seem to rely on the number of items enchanted/forged and not so much what quality, thus leveling this just leads to making endless iron daggers/leather bracers and enchanting them with petty souls. Just NOT a fun mechanic at all.. Some other trees you don't use too much (conjuration perhaps) you simply can't level well without spamming needless spells to do so. It's just a chore, the traditional system of gaining XP on killing and then choosing what you level is TONS better. The balance of some perks is also just horrible. Most here know that smithing and enchanting is quite broken. Smithing is just too good for warriors by rushing to some tuned ebony armor or daedric armor set, enchanting is even more broken for mages by stacking -% costs on your most used spell tree (probably destruction). With a good potion and enough level in enchanting you can get that quite quickly and it doesn't evne cost you that many perks, nor does smithing. Some of the lvl 100 perks are also just broken that by the point you get there (which can be quite fast for some tree's) it just completely alters the game, from having trouble with adept to breezing through masters. Finally many perks tree's are just poorly designed imo and just no fun. Light and heavy armor tree are the most boring 'add +x%' with every point basically. Speech and lockpicking feel a complete waste either as those parts should really be side material imo. Some styles of play like using a staff are also not properly supported by any perks which is a waste.
Then the final thing in which this game failed and most important: combat. There are tons of playstyles possible in this game but they feel a bit shallow on their own (and you'll likely be forced to follow one style mostly). The spells especially just disapointed me.. All destruction spells were basically boring copies of eachother with a different element and different projectile speed. There were no cool spells which really used one element. Restoration and alteration are also just utterly boring tree's which basically only give heal and some armor that you really use. Illusion is ok but conjuration sucked as well because the AI in this game sucks. Followes annoy the hell out of me and many enemies are completely stupid too.
Many fights and quests lacked interaction too. Never many guys too fight against (10 max in the civil war quests i think) and very linear play. Except for kiting and jumping here and there or the occasional trap there also felt way too little interaction with the environment, they could have used that so much more imo. It all just leads to the game becoming very bland quickly.
Overall verdict: it starts very promising but becomes bland and even irritating very soon. I just finished it as I don't like leaving things incomplete but it wasn't worth it. After achieving virtual godmode through either enchanting or smithing there is no challenge left at all really. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.
How all those sites call this the game off the year and give it 9+ scores really puzzles me, did they never run into game ending bugs? is the game that much better on console? did they just not notice the poor combat system / perks?

Theeeeereee you aaaareee! *2 dremora lords dash off to kill a poor wolf*
companions? I got mine from the Oblivion Escort Service.
Markwerf:
Yea, the bugs are annoying, but at least PC has the super powerful console which you can use to fix a lot of them, console players are probably even more boned if they run into a bug.
Combat, yes it gets tedious after a while, name me a game where it doesn't when you have such a vast world to explore. I feel a lot like Fallout 3 / New Vegas with Skyrim (well duh, engine..), combat takes a side role and exploration and story line is by far more important, although some of the quests and works to do in Skyrim lack imagination.
I find the combat fills its purpose, you can go several different ways to do it and do just fine. Be a sneaky guy and use sneak attacks to 1 shot stuff, elementalist mage to spam stuff (yea the spells are super boring agree), archer, melee dude, conjurer, all play totally different but get the job done.
Console porting is quite visible in the menus and shit and it's retardedly annoying, fully agree with that.
I don't mind the leveling system, it feels alright to me, though some of the skills and especially perks are just dumb. There's such a waste of space perks and in contrast totally game changing ones often on equal footing to pick. Too much repetition in frees like different armor types and weapon types, they could sure done more work with that. I mean there's like 0 game balance reasons to have the armor trees as boring as they are, if you can validate putting a perk that removes weight and encumberance from heavy armor totally..
Also things like Dual Souls, as much as it makes sense for that dedicated conjurer..it just totally trivializes combat when you can summon 2x dremora lords. I'm more okay with high risk / high reward like the backstab talents in sneak, at least if you fail to kill someone in 1 hit you are in the middle of the melee then with a character that probably isn't built for that.
The lack of grand scale combat made the whole rebellion quest line kinda sad, agree. Whole game long you hear the whole Skyrim being in a civil war and then the deciding battles are like..8 guys rushing vs 8 others in a keep and that battle somehow decides the ownership of a whole hold, wat? Is the population of a hold under a 100 or something :D
Overall though, I absolutely love the game, if you just go out to explore and forget power gaming for a moment, it's just awesome. Sneaking around in a dungeon, having to actually pay attention yourself (OMG!) to the floor and walls for traps, because if you miss one and run into that ram-trap, it 1 hits you. Or missing to notice that Draugr Deathlord with an Ebon 2hander who power attacks you for 500% of your max health.
Apart from making the main character too much of a demi god in the game and in the story, like say being made an arch mage over some old geezer who probably has lived in the College since he was 10, just because you did a couple of quests (okay, you had to do some badass stuff on them) feels ridiculous. Don't know why every game has to go into this god syndrome, but whatever. It's a really good game that has a lot of depth and play value _IF_ you avoid cheesing the systems. Cheesing the leveling of whatever will diminish your game a lot.
The game is definately worth keeping around and checking regularly for the mod community once they get the gears going and start churning out proper content. Oh and IMO, the dragons in this game are by far the best in any game I've seen. Even if killing them becomes trivial once you know how to, the first time you fight a dragon, have it land next to you from air, the shockwave rocking your character around totally, then get breathed in the face and get blinded by the massive fire on your head... so good. Only really annoying thing about them is that it's hard to get engaged by them if one circles above you and you really really want to kill it, it just keeps circling and shouting and then flies away >_>

I loved Fawkes as a companion in Fallout but yeah I don't like having companions either. I enjoy the difficulty of being alone in Master. At most, I use Shadowmere in Skyrim (which is fucking awesome btw).

I definitely prefer it!
Not to talk about the 2nd inventory, i hate the weight limit alot lol. But it's not that bad if you have a follower and know what to pick up.

A new world, new characters, new combat system (if you're really good), you can record voiceovers for your new characters, have epic quests, etc etc.
It's plain awesome, but you have to wait for the construction kit to come out. I'm not sure when that's coming, hopefully sooner rather than later.
One of the more famous mods for Oblivion was Nehrim, a straight up new game, new world, all new voiceovers, epic 40+hour quest. Modding community for these games is incredible.

Well. After playing Skyrim for a week, I'll certainly give it a passing grade. Surely a fun game, much more so than Oblivion was.
Still, as far as enjoyment goes, it gets nowhere near The Witcher 2 in my book, hence I have the RPG of the year.

ya T.T.
I killed a dragon after it followed me into a town. I dropped a lot of gear and two of the people I was doing quests through decided to fight over the gear i dropped. They had a massive 2min duel which ended in both of them killing each other rofl ><!

I'd recommend him for any warrior. The Azura's star quest woman makes an awesome mage (conjures an atronach, has high level spells) after you finish that quest.

I'm reeeeaaally disappointed that the Light Armor side of Smithing is actually completely worthless at maximum levels.
If you take the Heavy Armor path, you get access to the best Heavy Armor (Daedric), the best Light Armor (Dragonscale), and the best weapons (Daedric + Ebony).
If you take the Light Armor path, you get the best Light Armor (Dragonscale), the second best Heavy Armor (Dragonplate), and the third best weapons in the game (Glass). In fact, Heavy Armor can also produce Dragonplate armor.
I chose the Light Armor side without thinking, but now I'm really regretting it, since Ebony and Daedric weapons look sooo much better than these stupid miniature broadswords >.<

Need a little help guys. Did anybody here encounter issues with detecting graphic card? My friend have new notebook with geforce card and integrated intel card and Skyrim detects only the intel one. After some googling, we found advices like this, but it didn't help:
9# Skyrim Doesn’t Detect Nvidia Card Go to Manage 3D Settings in Nvidia Graphics Option and click the drop down box where it says – Preferred Graphics Processor. Select High Performance Nvidia Processor and save the setting.
Skyrim should detect your video card now and if it still doesn’t, – from Global Settings, go to Program Settings tab. Click on the drop down box and find Steam in the list. Click where it says ‘Preferred Graphics Processor’ and choose Nvidia Processor.
Anyone had any success with this?

Malkavian is like a whole separate game. I recommend playing through at least one non-Malkavian and then going Malkavian after you know the story if you want that experience.
