I love Valve and its games, but there is no word to describe how much I despise Steam. This is something I'll pay more attention to in the future, when deciding whether I should buy a game or not.

I was really excited, even cancelled some other things I could've done on this Friday evening, this was going to be so awesome! .....I can't install it. Steam won't let me. Steam won't let me install the single player game that I bought at a local game store. I don't even know what to say. Edit: am I right to assume that all those who are playing it pirated it? Or did it come out earlier in other parts of the world? It was released at midnight on Steam for UK and NL that I know of.

http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/m7zja/tweaks_to_make_skyrim_that_much_better/ This fixes the laggy mouse issue Bethesda implemented because they forgot that PC users like to control there game accurately. Also fixes the mouse acceleration problem that PC games have been coming stock with for no apparent reason except to show us they have no idea how terrible it is. Also fixes the crash to desktop and NPC fuzzy sound issues some users were having, because Bethesda QA group must have come from the same group that did Rage. Also from that Reddit thread: At the end of your Documents/My Games/Skyrim/Skyrim.ini file, add: [Controls] fMouseHeadingYScale=0.0200 fMouseHeadingXScale=0.0200 You may have to tweak the numbers until you discover what works for you. This sort of fixes the problem that Skyrim uses different values for X and Y mouse pitch. How this got past quality I will never understand. Also this link has some graphical enhancements you can add if your system smashes Skyrim. http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1255692-skyrim-pc-ini-and-console-tweaks/ + Show Spoiler + .ini Variables The SkyrimPrefs.ini is located in Documents\My Games\Skyrim. Make a backup as usual. Interesting variables are as follows, in order of appearance in the .ini and showing their default settings. bDoDepthOfField=1 bTreesReceiveShadows=0 bDrawLandShadows=0 bShowFloatingQuestMarkers=1 bShowQuestMarkers=1 bShowCompass=1 bMouseAcceleration=1 fAutosaveEveryXMins=15.0000 FOV adjustment Have found no way to change FOV outside the game so far (only the fov n console command like Oblivion). Changing the FOV via the in-game console carries over between reloads and sessions. Here are some comparison screenshots. They were taken at 1920x1080, and there wasn't much fisheye at 100 degrees. I settled at 95 degrees. Default FOV (I'm guessing around 60-70) 80 degrees 90 degrees 100 degrees. Comparison of bTreesReceiveShadows and bDrawLandShadows values bTreesReceiveShadows=0 bTreesReceiveShadows=1 Obviously having TreesReceiveShadows on gives trees tons more depth. bDrawLandShadows=0 bDrawLandShadows=1 The rock casts subtle shadows on itself, basically. Note that the larger shadows are unaffected; this is a subtle effect, but an important one, I think. For me there was no performance hit having them on, but your mileage may vary. Game was running at 1920x1080 on default High settings, except for 2x AA and draw distances set to 7 for all (I think the object and actor draw distances are lower by default). Excellent graphics are in this game but Skyrim makes you fucking work for them thats for sure. There are other UI issues fixable through commands, like the cramped FOV. To adjust the FOV use "fov n" where n is the field of view number you wish to use. Skyrim fish eyes less than other games with this tweak so it should be good. _______________________________________________________________________ EDIT: If my above config makes your game run in windowed mode it is because of these two lines. iSize H=1050 iSize W=1680 Change these to fit the resolution of your monitor. Also use this. bFull Screen=1

Seems to run pretty well on my low end PC, defaulted to medium even with 1920x1080. However I can't get back to game if I alt tab and I can't bring up the steam shift+tab window in game for some reason, never had that issue with any other steam game.

While a shadow map of 64mb doesnt sound like a big deal, realize it multiplies for every shadow there is on the screen. Also props to reddit community.

Are they terrible enough to make it not fun? Hmm, menus seem to be made with Consoles in mind, unlike other Elder Scrolls games and CRPG's alike. The one thing that bugged me was trying to figure out how to hotkey items. It was driving me nuts for awhile. It seems obvious when you finally do it, but I swear there are no hints what so ever (or maybe i just skipped them lol) For anyone who doesn't know how to do it still, just highlight whatever you want to hotkey in your favorites menu and hit a number from 1-9

Take some time to read the last ~5 pages quickly and you'll find your answers. goddamn -_- Im still waiting for download and already well prepared for quite a few problems with their fixes. Also - The UI hasnt been optimised for PC gamers since morrowind, everyone said oblivion sucked then got used to it! Doesnt anyone else remember sitting there thinking "how the fuck do i drop items??" only to figure out its shift, but never actually tells you x-( EDIT: fixes in this thread.
