Looks pretty sweet. I'm a fan of ladders/whatever (waterfalls, non-working boat lifts, one way drops...) that are used for going up and down to make the maze multi-tiered. I'll have to check it out soon.

hhmm is the server down ? I cant seem to connect .. worked fine yesterday
Fruitseller: I feel like it's a good strategy[6Pool]. I had a lot of strategies, but I thought about it a lot and decided to 6 pool. Other people told me to 6 pool too

During the night, the server is restricted to donors and mods, that's why you can't connect. The server usually opens up again at about 12:00 GMT (+00:00)-14:00 GMT (+00:00). The server should be open 24/7 soon, though.

This is awesome. Finally got me to stop lurking around (been too long anyway) and actually sign up. What you guys have done is great, and I love how everyone - or most everyone - is dedicated to making it a great world. Putting a stop to griefers like you have is just wonderful. Can't wait to be updated on the list and join the game! Sent my pm last night.

Just one question . . . Does anyone know if there will likely be a server reset for the patch, or will we just be moving on from where we are?

If biomes or a new non-hell block are added to multiplayer, they will only spawn in newly generated areas of terrain... which means you'd have to walk a LONG way to find any. A map reset would be a good idea.

Another option, though, is to keep the same map and maybe create a new spawn zone so old players could finish their projects, and new players would spawn in the new biomes and stuff. The only issue I see with this is map size...

For example, the old save was ~80 MB and took me about 3 hours to render a 3D map. The current save file is over 300 MB and takes me about 15 hours to render. I'm actually guessing at that time, because I left a render going overnight and it crashed after the 7 hour mark, but seemed to be nearly half done.

I'm not even sure I can continue to update a 3D map CURRENTLY, so I doubt there's any chance of it if I don't reset the server. In fact, I can't even update the 2D map right now because it's too large for imageshack to host.

So... take from that what you will.

well yeah theres some explore griefing that went on, but there's still soo much unexplored terrain between these explored lanes, biomes would spawn there i guess, so what's the real issue?

Yes, biomes would spawn there. The issue I was pointing out earlier is that I wouldn't be able to provide any map images. The server would probably have to start shutting down to make backups, too.

Well, the good news is that if it does require a reset, I don't think another reset would be required for quite a long time. I mean, biomes are the big thing. The next time I see a reset being possible is NPC towns, and that's probably a LONG ways off.

actually, i really like regular (monthly) resets... they clean up a lot of the clutter and give a fresh start. every time we've reset the server the road system (for example) has gotten a lot neater and easier, and its easier to find a plot to build that amazing project you were dreaming about.

The odd part about all of the items that Notch has said he is going to update, there has been no information about whether this update will be Single Player only or if it will include Multiplayer as well. Unless someone has read something elsewhere, I think we will just have to wait and see what portions of this update, if any, are included in the multiplayer portion of the game.

In my opinion, server should be reset after this update. Now everyone knows how easily you can make towns, and we could very well see a lot of towns pop up, and less random houses, weird stuff floating around. I really, really like the town concept, and i dont like random dirt pillars around, houses floating in the air, and huuuuge buildings in the middle of nowhere. Instead you can put those things in a town, make people have different jobs, and suddenly, everything looks neater and more clean. Of course, that doesnt mean that its not ok to make a house outside of a town, but i really would like to see more towns and shared projects blossom.

Also add that we'll have a huge circular area that is without biomes, which would look weird, and i dont think changing the spawn area is the best solution. And also, we'll probably be getting minecart & redstone fixes, so we can make a railway network, which really is a pain to make when there's not much space to work on.

Minecarts may still not be fixed after the update.


Anyway, I don't really care if we get a new map but a new map won't stop people from making random dirt pillars and randomly placed houses. As much as I think towns would be cool random houses are really nothing to complain about.

Minecarts MAY not be fixed. Im pretty sure the thread also says that even if they aren't fixed with the halloween update, they're next up. Whatever, i'd just like to see a new map.
