Did anyone else notice how shabby notch's implementation of the serverside chests is?
If you move materials around in chests quickly, you can either duplicate them, or lose all of it. It's like gambling.

a lot of the netcode appears to be somewhat shabby.
not to mention the client is coded on java app and eats up all my memory
I've been playing on 208.115.212.34 for the time being but found it has been rather quiet I guess because most everyone has moved over. Anyone else still using the above IP?
Can someone confirm if this: liquid.stasysgaming.com is the new IP? Cheers
tl does offer a neat [ time ] tag for such time statements.
so: Usual server online time: 12:00 GMT (+00:00) to 03:00 GMT (+00:00) ->i think<-. the above post does state something different (seems like am/pm messed up), and i don't know the correct times as i'm EU, but this is what i think it usually is.
/edit: @hktoo: just use this name address all the time, its correct. you don't need to type in the actual ip. just always type that name.

Big props to Valug for finding that stuff - awesome find! Also props to Valug and and Scrapiron for helping build the room!
Short description of our string and feather making machine: There is a zombie spawner slightly above and a little to the side of a spider spawner. We placed the drowning section below the spider spawner, with item exit point close to the zombie spawner. This way, when someone stands at the drop point, both spawners still work. The Zombies are not drowned directly, but rather transported alive through a water-powered sky walk, and dropped into the room around the spider spawner at the other end. This way, they drown along side the spiders in the same drowning section. And it is soooo funny to see those zombies "walk" through that sky walk, it can't be put into text ;P
An apology ahead: i'm sorry that most of these pictures are pretty dark, but the spawners don't work anymore if there's too much light.
while i took care to include a zombie inside the sky walk on every screenshot focused on it, its still not as funny as seeing it in action. Both Valug and Scrapion i think did mention that they might make a video of the machine and put it on youtube. I will of course add a link to that video here as soon as i see it. Until then, you'll have to make due with those screenshots or just log in and watch it!
Link to the video I made, I recommend watching in 720p. I believe Scrapion is creating a video as well with commentary, but until then you can watch mine! (w/ Chronotrigger Music!)
Maze is complete. I didn't add a roof because I was lazy and didn't want to dig up the 900 or so dirt blocks that would be required to roof a 30x30 area. Also seems fine as is. Seemed decently visible running through it at night, though if your screen is darker than most you may might end up wanting some extra torches.
Maze can be found West and a bit Southish of Spawnville (take West entrance, turn left, then turn right after the tree farm). From the front gates to Cactebury (where the first Catci are at) turn left off the road and march straight south over a couple hills. It's on GrahamS's front lawn, more or less, so hopefully he doesn't mind having a maze in front of his gigantic house/castle/fortress.
Left a chest out front with a few spare ladders in case someone gets stuck and/or ladders inside the maze disappeared when I wasn't looking, which happened a few times when I ran through it after finishing. If anyone thinks it'd be better with a roof lemme know (and if it should be two or three blocks high under the roof inside it, if so).
Dirt was donated by GameDouble. Think I used a bit over 1k blocks.
Edit: Roof is totally staying off. Raddmiral is giving it the first run and it's fun to run across the top watching him backtrack.
What I'm curious about is that, though I've seen multiple people volunteer to be late-night admins, we still don't have a late-night admin.
Is it a logistical nightmare for one admin to seed control to another admin at approx. 22:00 EST? I mean, I can imagine that you guys would have to coordinate shifts and such, and when one guy can't make it, the whole process breaks down.
Or is it that you guys are in an interview process and you guys haven't yet found a guy who can adequately fulfill the duties of a late-night admin?

The issue isn't so much finding somebody to mod at night, but finding somebody who can be on the entire time. If the server is offline for 8 hours, and I have a mod that will be on for 7 hours, that just doesn't cut it because griefers will have a field day during that last, unmodded hour.
And of course it's unreasonable to expect one person to be online for eight hours straight to do that, which means I need 2-3 mods to help split up the time. Unfortunately, that adds new complications because it's really hard to set up "shifts". At that point, it basically becomes an unpaid job, which is something most people aren't willing to commit to. It's one thing if you're online and modding while you play in your free time, but it's a lot harder when you have a strict obligation to do so.
As a rough example, I'll use Worldofminecraft. They have 83 admins/mods on their server. I don't know how many players they have at a time, and it really doesn't matter because in theory one mod can handle the entire server alone (unless you have like 30 griefers join at once or something). That averages out to each mod only needing to be online for about 15 minutes a day, which is very reasonable to ask of them. On the TL server, each mod is currently expected to be online an average of about 3 hours a day.
So far, I've had a whopping total of three people request to be a mod that aren't currently mods; none of which I know well enough to leave in charge of the server overnight (two of them offered to be mods within an hour of first joining the server, and have only been on it for two days. The third I'm considering, but he's mostly on during the same hours as I am).
As a temporary option I will probably give some admin commands to donors, but nobody is stepping up and offering to mod during those hours, and I don't know the players that log on during that time well enough to pick them out myself, so it's kind of a tough situation at the moment. I've also been busy with real life issues for the last 2-3 days, so I haven't been able to do much with it.
Last but not least, each server is a bit different. Rockpapershotgun's server is actually smaller than mine, and they're a pretty large website while I'm just a guy do this in his free time. They probably make enough money from ad revenue to actually pay some of their mods to be on at certain times, and they have less users than I do, which means they probably have a much easier time running their server. At the same time, some other servers larger than mine have closed down to the public, and only allow people who donate to log in. This vastly reduces the need for mods because a) most griefers won't donate to a server just to grief it for a few minutes, and b) people who are willing to donate are more willing to protect their investment, and normal users will actively help keep an eye out for griefers. If I charged everyone $10 to become whitelisted, then I could probably leave the server online 24/7 without any mods online and nothing would get touched. I'd also probably drop from 400+ users to <50, and that's not good when my whole reason for starting this was to provide everyone here a place to play together.
So, TLDR: I'm going to try to get a solution in place tomorrow morning with a revamped moderation system that should allow the server to stay up 24/7, but it's harder than it sounds/should be so bear with me.
Okay, that's fine. Didn't know that was the situation. I realize this is hard work, and this server's really become something big. Thanks for doing all this!

For what it is worth I would be glad to pay a required fee. As I am sure many of us would. Not to say that everyone would up for $10 but something less like 3 or 5 could accomplish the same thing. The people that would leave would be the people that weren't really using the server anyway (I think).
On a similar note, incentives should be put in place for donating. Perhaps a list of donors (which I plan on joining later tonight) on a wall of signs in every major town, a different colored name, maybe even a road going out to your private estate if you give enough... the possibilities are endless, be creative.
Anyway, that is my two cents.
A show of hand for who would be supportive and who would be really pissed at a small fee?

I've been asked not to discuss topics such as these on TL, so I'll just say that I will be putting up a website tomorrow for the server, and it will have more information and features that I can't provide via forums (such as streaming server chat).
Also, I'm sure there are a decent amount of people that would pay to play on this server, but that's not the direction I want to go in so there's no need to ask people if they would
When I try to log into the server alot of the times ill get "Failed to connect to server. Connection timed out: connect." Does this means the server is full or could it just mean the server is offline? I normally get a message saying the server is off though.
