If you intentionally disrupt this server your actions will be reported to TL staff and action may be taken against your forum account. |
Yeah, paint seems to work. Had to custom-zoom it to 800% to get it close enough in for the grid to be useable, but all good now.
Think I'll start with a 30x30 and make it mostly out of dirt. Can use fancier stuff (wood, cobblestone, smooth stone, etc) later on. Guessing it'll only take people a few minutes to get through it due to size, but gotta start somewhere!
Edit: And done designing. Super rough estimating it'll take somewhere around 600 blocks (likely way more, heh). That's a lot of digging. Does anyone have a shit ton of dirt they don't want or should I run away from the spawn for a few minutes and then ravage a mountain for awhile?

Just finished my giant tree (By finished I mean decided to stop growing at an arbitrary height). Way better than the one in cacterburg, imo. You can even go inside it.

psh
your tree ain't got shit on the mighty Cacterburg tree fort...
All jokes aside - you're tree is floating in mid air! That's freaking epic!

After wandering around randomly, I started building a jump challenge with soon to be 9 or 10 stages, each consisting of about 3-4 different jumps. It is north of Cacterburg (I think, which is probably quite a walk from spawn and too far for something people are meant to use). If you follow the road to the Uncle Scrooge safe, before you make the left turn to the safe, just go straight, you see it from there.
It's currently quite unfinished, the first stage is done, I have the jumps built for 5 more stages and 1 stage involving doors and 2 or 3 stages involving ladders are soon to come.

It'd be interesting to use ladders on the side of a wall to make a poor man's version of Metroid's spider ball mazes/tracks.

Don't know the spider ball mazes, but ladders do have the problem that you can stand on them after you climb them. So that limits the ability to do stuff like that with them a bit.

So Valug found a nice spider spawner next to a zombie spawner in his mine, and we built a killing machine around it. One that kills both spawners in the same drowning section :D
Big props to Valug for finding that stuff - awesome find! Also props to Valug and and Scrapiron for helping build the room!
Short description of our string and feather making machine: There is a zombie spawner slightly above and a little to the side of a spider spawner. We placed the drowning section below the spider spawner, with item exit point close to the zombie spawner. This way, when someone stands at the drop point, both spawners still work. The Zombies are not drowned directly, but rather transported alive through a water-powered sky walk, and dropped into the room around the spider spawner at the other end. This way, they drown along side the spiders in the same drowning section. And it is soooo funny to see those zombies "walk" through that sky walk, it can't be put into text ;P
An apology ahead: i'm sorry that most of these pictures are pretty dark, but the spawners don't work anymore if there's too much light.
So now to the good stuff: Click here for a small screenshot gallery of the machine.
Teaser image from the gallery:

while i took care to include a zombie inside the sky walk on every screenshot focused on it, its still not as funny as seeing it in action. Both Valug and Scrapion i think did mention that they might make a video of the machine and put it on youtube. I will of course add a link to that video here as soon as i see it. Until then, you'll have to make due with those screenshots or just log in and watch it!

This is exactly why I love tl :D
Started playing minecraft 2 days ago, just on singleplayer easiest difficulty to avoid mobs and focus on creating a huge mine and working on my temple. Wanted to check if people on tl played minecraft, found this thread, mind blown.

Once Fraps decides to work, and the server are up at the same time I'll get a good video of it

Long story short.
Bad folk + griefy folk log in after Bran goes to bed. Build minetracks, use lava buckets, whatever you see in the huge DO NOT USE post. Log in. EPIC LAG. Crash. Inventory wiped for everyone on server. Server rolled back a few hours. Everyone goes FUUUUUU. Bran can't do anything about it. The map gets corrupted and you can't log in or whatever. Completely remake the server. New map, new everything. Like starting brand new again. You all have to sit around and wait as we set up the server. And get all sad and angry at us in IRC for not having the server online.
So.....in order to avoid the above process (twice done already), Bran shuts down the server while he's asleep. Unfortunately as he is East coast US, this shuts down in prime time for some of the players...which he is not happy about, but it's either
a) risk the server getting f'ed up because there is no one around to monitor. b) Keep the server offline for a little while, while Bran is not able to keep things stable.
It sucks. I agree. I think Bran is trying to find a workaround. But at this point just bear with it and hopefully in the Halloween update there will be some fixes or patches pertaining to SMP that will prevent some of the items on that list of "Fucks up server" from actually breaking anything.
Sorry for inconvenience, though. Thank the group of evil grief people that caused all this in the first place.

Could we have server online timers on first post if possible? Atleast most possible online offline times.

On October 15 2010 15:30 Ryndika wrote: Could we have server online timers on first post if possible? Atleast most possible online offline times.
The server generally goes offline at 20:00 MDT (19:00 PST, 22:00 EST). Then the server generally comes back online at 6:00 MDT (5:00 PST, 8:00 EST).
That being said sometimes the server goes offline close to 21:00 MDT, and other times it doesn't come online till a few hours later.
*the "new" server has only been up for a few days but I can say from as far as I know these are the most consistent times. They're not set in stone though.
I think the biggest disappointment about the situation is not the fact that it has to go down, but the fact that we actually have people on TL.net who enjoy destroying stuff on the TL.net server. :/ Then again with the influx of SC2 gamers and the way some of them post/act I'm not really that surprised, but still sucks.
