Agreed. If they printed a TON of staple cards every set all cards would be worthless after 2-3 years due to power creep. Having 2 to 3 really good cards in each set that are very playable but not busted in eternal formats (i.e Stormbreath Dragon, Return to the Ranks, Chord of Calling, Mana Confluence, Brimaz from recent sets) and having 1-3 staples in an ENTIRE BLOCK (Snapcaster Mage, Deathrite Shaman, Thoughtseize, Eidolon of the Great Revel, etc) is the way to do it.

When you print super busted sets like the more recent Innistrad or Zendikar you see what happens. Those packs are ridiculously expensive which further raises price on the cards because there is more unopened stock when theres multiple godly pulls. I know a store that was actually stockpiling Innistrad before they stopped print just to mark them up later, which was an obvious choice given the power level of the set

With their new printing policy, they'll print as much or less card every year.

Block + Core was Big - Small - Small - Big and those last years (INN and RTR) you even had 3 Big sets and only 1 small one.
The new set structure is 2 bigs + 2 smalls, so that's either the same as it used to be or LESS.

They're not even gonna print more cards, just offer twice the contents they used to offer regarding mechanics/flavor/standard. There's a reason everybody is loving this change.

Onsalught fetch are way nicer looking but who cares. I'm just going to buy at least a play set of each and be done for magic for the year again. Maybe just maybe one foil each for EDH too.

Personally I'm excited, more accessible fetches that can replace the super-expensive ZEN ones in Modern, and a Standard manabase that won't suck quite as much.

this will also be a very welcome drain on the ZEN fetch prizes, as decks will be fighting among the same fetches way less reducing the demand for the Zendikar ones.
Also for symmetry between shards and wedges it was very relevant to make the full cycle available in modern.
shards only had 4 on colour fetches, meaning they could search basics to preserve life alot less often, now they will have 9-12.

Also just like with the shocklands that are currently in standard they will turn on alot of the aggressive and midrange decks. I started playing right before Shards of Alara was released, and I cannot really put into words how excited I am and nostalgic it is for me that there's another three-colored set! Even though it's just one set instead of the whole block, I'm so pumped!

Mostly the fact that mono colored was the only viable way to play due to a certain "cough" Rishadan port "cough" so that it was like everyone played devotion for no reason than a restricted mana base. Death by stinging barrier woot woot!

Mono black control, monoblue tempo, UW control, Wx Aggro, and various Gx midrange.

Except the games were slower, all spells were expensive, and finishers were anemic.

Masque's wasn't that great either but it gave us a ton of fun tools to play with. Rishadan Port is probably one of my top 5 cards to play. I am a huge fan of resource denial strategies and it is likely why Legacy is my format of choice. Although playing against Rebel's every other game sucked, that set happened before Kamigawa, hence the "since Kamigawa" statement.

But there was NOTHING fun about theros. Limited you knew you lost like 5 turns before you lost, or you knew u were going to win 5 turns before you finally won. Every game was like that, or some retarded blowout that happened out of nowhere. I remember in Theros pre-release I pumped a creature to 20 power with 3 cards just because I happened to have it. Stuff like that isn't fun. And don't get me started on the super bland standard... I am excited to see a deck built around Aetherspouts post rotation as its removal of choice... instant speed wipe that allows you to keep or build your presence. We could see some really fun U/X/X decks in this next block. I actually dropped from an event I was doing well in just to play a Legacy side event because I wasn't having fun in that constructed format lol
