Duress, for example, is not a good copy for Thoughtseize but works almost exactly like cabal therapy minus flashback. This is because Thoughtseize is a generalized disruption spell that spends as much time "killing creatures" as it does getting through counter magic. Duress and cabal therapy are almost strictly used to break through counter magic and to neuter combo/control decks. So in some meta games running dismember as a cheap Thoughtseize is the right call while in other meta games running duress as a cheap Thoughtseize is the right call. Etc... | ||

Isnt your mana base pretty weak with 3 colors? You dont have the draws that UWx has or the fixing of green to cover for 3 colors. | ||

Unlike UWx, it needs to be casting stuff on curve, and having 20 lands CIPT end up destroying you. I ended up dropping a couple scrylands and a pair of shocks for extra basics, Made the mana better, but the deck still always drew the wrong half. | ||

I've been a BWR player since before rotation and I'm going to argue that mana now is better than mana before. The issue is still combating Blue decks with these colors. I haven't to play since Devotion became a thing and I think the deck has a spot it just needs to be more black based and rune connections in the main. It has all the answers the format asks for it just doesn't have the luxury of always finding them when it needs too like UW or Esper. | ||

But Gideon seems so well positioned against these mass creature decks (except for the massive "fuck you planeswalkers" spell). | ||

Current list for my cube. Expensive cards are 2 expensive with 2 unpaid weeks off for the holidays. Main upcoming change is swapping one of the weaker dual cycles for another set of shocks. Strict singleton is for chumps. | ||

Although, for a lot of people myself included, the cool thing about cube is the interactions between formats all stars from before and now, as well as a chance to play with broken cards that are otherwise banned in every non vintage format (tinker blightsteel yes please) | ||
