I've been having way too much fun playing Modern Masters draft on MTGO the last few days - so sad it goes away soon. Some highlights include a turn 3, storm count 4 Empty, off the back of a bunch of spliced rituals, and attaching runed stalactite to my Greater Gargadon so I could sac it to Thallid Germinator, dodging a 16 damange Phthisis.

Somehow, whenever I go MM draft, I always go either black or white or most likely both. Just love my rebels too much, P3 Blightspeaker is my shit.

MMA is such a sweet format, too bad none of the locals draft or can afford MMA packs :V

GP went poorly, went 5-4 losing the last 3 rounds in a row to miss day 2 =/

Hmm so guys and gals, I have a GPT this weekend, planning on playing the following list:

4 Jace, Architect of Thought
2 Elspeth, Sun's Champ

4 Azorius Charm
4 Dissolve
1 Elixir of Immortality
4 Supreme Verdict
3 Divination
2 Syncopate
2 Quicken
4 Detention Sphere
4 Sphinx's Revelation

4 Azorius Guildgate
4 Hallowed Fountain
8 Island
2 Mutavault
8 Plains

SB: Prob 4 Gainsay, Planar Cleansing, 2 Fiendslayer Paladin, Aetherling, Mill Jace, negate, ratchet bomb, pithing needle and a couple of last breaths...something like that.

Opinions would be welcomed. Have not tested much, and what I tested went well, though games generally go pretty long. Which is fine. But yes, feedback would very much be appreciated

Consider the following lobsters:

Glare of Heresy: to get rid of voice of resurgence
Aetherize: stall vs aggro and great against pack rats
Blind Obedience: for the drawn out control vs control
Render Silent: ionno. i just like this card

glare of heresy and blind obedience definitely have spots in the SB potentially. No need for render silent, despite the fact that I liked the card when I first saw it. But hmm. Cut a syncopate for a render silent in the mb? Dunno about aetherize, it is in my cards to potentially play (same with cyclonic), but not convinced

I played my first Theros Sealed event yesterday and it was awesome.

I managed to get some good white/blue/black card to build some kind of Agressive Control deck (I can post the deck-list later on). While it had some control options to get advantages, it also had creatures, bestow creatures and auras. In my opinion, that was the best deck I could build out off those cards that I got.

I managed to go 1-1-1 (0-2, 2-0, 1-1-1) and get fourth place in the event. Since there were only 6 participants, this would mean that I'd play a Bo3 against the third-placed player. However, a Bo1 match needed to be played to decide who I was going to play and since it was getting late, there were only 1 booster at stake and I'm going have a busy day today, I decided to go home after the swiss rounds and get some sleep. However I had lots of fun, which is the most important for me, despite me making a blunder that could've won me one game in the final swiss round (the tie was due to time limit).

I find the lack of Aetherling very disturbing in that UW list.

It's basically Huey's deck from the latest GP. The theory is that it's better to run additional control elements over win conditions. His list only had 1 Elspeth as well.

For what it's worth, I would definitely play the 4th Divination over the 4th Jace. The deck has nothing else to do on turn 3 since there's almost nothing in the format you would want to Dissolve. It's really important to curve out correctly with this deck and plan your turns accurately because it's so fragile.

I have cut a Jace but left it at 3 divinations, and threw in a last breath in the main after some testing. So far have liked the deck, and t3 divination does feel good. Fingers crossed I go well tomorrow, but I guess I'll let people know if I do. 11 hours till the start ^_^

Just take your dual lands out of ur control deck and put 'em end your mono red deck whenever you need to. It isn't like you'll need the duals for both decks at the same time lol

I built it so a friend could play it at FNM as he's sick of GW agro. He doesn't have the duals

Yeah, it'd be $60 for the 8 duals needed in R/W. Kinda pricey for a 1-2 week stint on a borrowed deck.

In the grand scheme of things, the best land in the game is still the basic island and those are essentially free.

But the mana bases (aka lands) of the vast majority of decks are prohibitively expensive yes. There are definitely decks without this issue but that is kinda the definition of being priced into a deck rather than choosing the best deck. Even if in some cases it still is the best deck >_>

PS: The "new thing" in modern has a grand total of 2 lands that aren't islands. They aren't cheap (mutavaults ) but still it could be a lot worse.

Mono-black and mono-blue devotion have predictably cheap manabases (although they run some amount of mutavaults and nykthos but I think nykthos isn't that expensive )

Wizards will literally not stand for a format where the best decks don't use rare lands. Too much $ at stake. Basically, nobody opens packs of sets where the lands aren't valuable, because the rare lands are a lot of the EV in opening a box. So nobody buys those booster boxes and wizards is sad.

Hasn't changed too much, the only difference being that instead of $6-16 checklands, now you buy $3-5 scrylands to go with your $8-12 shocks.

Standard manabases are about as cheap as they've been in forever. No vastly overpriced terrible duals, shocks are down to like $8-12, only bad decks need 4x Nykthos and any 4x Mutavault deck plays like 10+ basics.

Boros burn/"control" is probably my deck of choice for anything smaller than a PTQ for a while... aka time to play Kaijudo instead...

Updated my cube for the first time since M14, feels good.
