No, He's saying he hates the way the mana base is layed out and would rather have access to Mutavaults in his UW build.

Edit: this is the same way I'm looking at BWR right now. I love the deck and how it play but the mana is so ass that I constantly want to cut down to RW, BW or BR midrange but have no idea which would be more beneficial.

It really depends on your meta, and how badly you want to he the beatdown. RB is great vs midrange because you've got beats and removal. RW is better vs.control, Boris charm beats verdict and they have better creatures vs an empty field (and enchantment removal). Finally, BW is good vs agro, with lifegain, stall, and amazing finishers (ghost dad and BBoV).

I kept brewing 3 color at first, but eventually I realized that Theros is either mono-devotion, 2 color, or UWx.

How bitter are you still that you can't read properly? Seriously read what I post. And pretty sure the two have nothing to do with each other considering every single Esper player know that the weakest part of their deck is their ass mana.

yesh, I need some help using the Magic Online game. For me it just looks like a complete clusterfuck atm. The opening pack with "over 600 cards!" covers exactly no possible way of building any decent decks. Trading is just a huge mess (I still don't understand what the currency is..tickets? What do people mean when they want "1.9" for a card?!). Anything in the store seems about equal or even more expensive than real life cards (wtf?), and any guide i can find through google is outdated by several years.

So I'm basically stuck with the starter set and no way to actually play with anything unless I shell out another 15 bucks for a drafting set or a complete deck?

Correct. Don't open any booster packs they give you though; you can use them for limited.

Trading is just a huge mess (I still don't understand what the currency is..tickets?

Event tickets basically mean dollars. You can buy them for 1 dollar per from the store (not sure how it works in other countries/currencies). Bots and humans selling things in the marketplace will accept tickets as though they were dollars, or occasionally you can trade cards instead.

What do people mean when they want "1.9" for a card?!).

It means they will take 2 tickets and save 0.1 tickets of credit for next time. Bots are pretty reliable about this.

Anything in the store seems about equal or even more expensive than real life cards (wtf?),
Yea cards aren't really cheaper online than IRL. You can buy booster packs from bots at a discount to the 4 dollars they cost in the store usually, though. If you collect one of every card from a given set, for a fee, you can 'redeem' them. This means they will remove one of each card from your library, and then mail you a box with one of each physical card. This is what I do to help justify the expense of acquiring all these digital cards.

So I'm basically stuck with the starter set and no way to actually play with anything unless I shell out another 15 bucks for a drafting set or a complete deck?
Pick up some booster packs at a discount and draft if you want to start acquiring some theros cards (or earlier sets... go to limited queues to see what is available). Alternately, you can buy cards individually from bots and play standard constructed... but as you said that will require a fair number of cards since the big pack they give you at the beginning isn't too helpful.

Hello there. I started with buying individual cards on mtgotraders.com. You can look up effective and semi effective decks, and mimic them, or you can look up individual cards on gatherer.wizards.com. I find buying those premade decks often dont get you what you'll need. As for booster packs, I only find it useful in standard. I dont know how others feel about this, but then again, I'm noob at the whole thing aswell.
If you want to get away with it cheaply, play something like pauper. I'd rather go with weaker but cheaper decks. You can get good decks in pauper without having to invest too much. To get an idea of how much some of the cards cost : it can go as low as 2 cent/card, and sometimes you can get good/useful cards for a low price. If you want to copy the decks pro's use however, expect that you'll have to buy certain cards that can cost you several euro's a piece. Then again, you can build decks without those aswell.

For me personally it sounds a bit pointless then. I just recently got into magic, and wanted to find a way to practice drafting. But if its going to cost the same online, id rather just go and do a real draft instead. I know there are a couple of draft practice sites, but they don't let you play with the decks afterwards, so its impossible to tell if you did decent or completely fail. And the magic game on steam, while decent to learn the core set and rules, is..lacking, to say the least.

If these guys had been really smart, they'd give you a way to redeem your real life cards online. So you wouldn't be stuck choosing one or the other.

Micronesia had good comments to your questions already so I will just add this. MTGO is not cheaper then paper magic. Heck it can quickly get even more expensive then the real deal if you draft a lot.

What it does is provide an easy place to play without the hassle of finding other players.

Shouldn't there be New Player Drafts which you can join with your New Player Tickets? Also Phantom Drafts (you pay much less to draft but don't get to keep the cards)?
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

That was, apparantly, last season. All you get now is the 600 starter cards, 20 player points, and 4 event tickets. With this I can't even play in the "new player" tab (which you can if you don't register, as then you don't need to own the cards..irony).

Judging by outdated guides, MTGO have gotten rid of both phantom drafts, tutorials(at least I cant find any), and new player tickets.

They gave that a lot of thought, and if there was an easy way to do it, they might have (although probably not for moneymaking reasons). I don't think there's any reasonable way to implement what you are suggesting.

After thinking about it, I can't find any real good way of implementing that either. You can't really have scratch codes on the cards for various reasons. You could have separate scratch code from boosters though. Buy one booster offline, and you'd get a booster online kind of deal. Yeah you wouldn't end up with the same cards, but you'd get an incentive to play on both platforms at least. Possibly even increasing revenue due to increased player base. And you'd be supporting your local shops as well.

Unfortunately they seem able to have their cake and eat it to. They must make a killing off of mtgo, and mtg has been around for a long time in paper form as well.

question about mtg rules,

this is regarding hidden strings and heroic heroes.

Can I target an already untapped creature with Hidden strings untap option and still target the creature to trigger it's heroic ability?

can I target a creature with heroic with a spell that returns it to my hand and can the heroics still trigger? say 2 damage to any target heroic effect?

I would say yes to the first question but im not entirely sure on it.

2nd question is that it would work. Heroic triggers when a spell/ability gos on the stack since that is the point they are targeted. This means that a Heroic trigger will resolve before the actual effect that triggers Heroic will resolve.

1) Yes, you can untap an already untapped creature and it will trigger the heroic effect. You targeted a creature and it was already untapped, heroic trigger goes on the stack before the Hidden Strings effect, Heroic effect resolves, and the creature untaps regardless of its tapped or untapped state.

2) Yes, the Heroic effect will trigger. Say you cast Voyage's End on your Phalanx Leader. Voyage's End goes on the stack. Phalanx Leader's Heroic effect goes on the stack after Voyage's End. Working down the stack from most recent to first spell, Phalanx Leader's +1/+1 counter to all creatures effect resolves, then Phalanx Leader will return to your hand.

Yes, the ordering here is:

1. Spell
2. Triggered ability

So you have the ability going off first since the stack resolves from the last thing first.

To clarify, you don't even choose whether to tap or untap until resolution of the spell. So really it's just "target my guy with Hidden Strings?" - "Heroic resolves?" - "Hidden Strings resolves? I choose to untap."

Which is exactly why a consistent monoblue deck with perfect mana prays on the esper deck yet you still try to say it's a good matchup for esper. Sure if esper gets a perfect mana/removal draw it will beat monoblue but if it stumbles on mana at all or has a lot of etbt lands monoblue will punish it hard. Esper was the most popular deck at the pro tour and monoblue dominated.

Which is relevant why? Why do people rely on those statistics like they mean something? Hint, they don't.

Also, what you said about Esper applies to every match up in the control vs aggro games so not sure what that point is. If you actually went back to watch the games, you would realize how much work Mutavault did in the match up. The match up is fine for Esper, since the MonoU deck has no burn or haste.

As for MonoU being consistent? No, it's not, people like pretending it is, but it really isn't.

Effects of spells only care during resolution.

Targeting restrictions only care before the spell announcement.

"Destroy target tapped creature" cares if the card is tapped because it specifically says you can only target a tapped creature.

"Untap target creature" only cares if the card is a creature, otherwise it would say "Untap target tapped creature"
