I had 5 angles, and a kind of top heavy mana curve. It just seemed to make sense to me to play a couple of them (drafted 3, played 2) to get through my deck to my big creatures faster. I liked how it played out, what is all of your opinions on it? Also, somehow I got 2 Defy Deaths in my Angel deck, both like 5th or 6th pick in a pack. I was pretty pleased with my deck overall. No. I wouldn't touch the Defy Deaths either. I wouldn't consider either cards unless I had at least 3 of the good angels at uncommon/common (Emancipation and Seraph). @Paranoid, others have said it well, and I didn't mention color signals and reading them on purpose since it's something a new player really shouldn't be worrying about. Now you probably figured it out. The Forcemage last pick is a clear indication that the person passing to you pack 1 was NOT in Green so you can safely expect a good number of Green cards pack 3. I don't switch too often outside of specific cards come around that have no business coming around, Forcemage in this format like others have pointed out is one of them. So yes, you didn't have to switch right there and then in pack 2, but you have to give Green a long hard look with the expectation that Green was going to remain open in pack 3. Outside of knowing your specific card picks and order, that's the best we can really offer you. Also, getting cut pack 2 unless Green wasn't deep isn't a big deal. If you are playing green you can comfortably play 3 colors in this format provided you get certain cards. I went 3-1 at my draft, went to draft Homicidal Seclusion deck, didn't see a homicidal seclusion. FML. Edit: Paranoid, you sound like you play at some douchey store that splits the new players and experienced players apart. We table talk the new players if they have problems or weren't sure if their cards are worth anything so they don't feel stupid or regret it. FMN is about fun not competition and drafting for the first time can be quite intimidating for new players.

Don't develop biases because certain cards have been used to great effect against you and likewise don't be biased against certain cards because they did very little for you. Ya that's a pretty common trap for new players. A new player asked me to look at his draft deck a couple months ago and when I told him to cut Spiteful Shadows he was adamant about keeping it in because it had just won him his last game. Sometimes terrible cards are good and you just don't realize that almost any other card in the set would have also won you the game.

My friend was able to draft 5 mist ravens. T.T @DEN1ED -> It may has just sheer luck. A lot of terrible cards can win a game; just that they would need the perfect scenario in which they would shine.

I have blown a few players out with Hysterical Blindness (cracking back for lethal) but it doesn't mean I want to put it in. You can be creative, but it doesn't mean you should push your luck.
