yeah

I still think Bolas might be one of my favourite cards printed. I might still run grixis control and 0-2 drop every FNM just so I can finally play it in standard (I was not playing T2 when it was still in the cycle)

Another quick limited question. Is there any specific sites or articles you guys would recommend that have a good overview of the current set's drafting as a format? I've been reading through some articles that come up when I google "avacyn restored drafting" but I was curious if there was anything in particular you guys would recommend to be familiar with a set I haven't experienced yet. Thanks!

LRCast generally does a fairly good job covering limited, it's a podcast but does a fairly solid job covering limited. It's not exactly brief but it goes in depth.

Im new to MTGO and im having troubles making a deck that it will let me use. I know how to make a decent deck (sort of) i just always get different error messages or the like. For instance at first i couldnt mix planeswalker and standard cards etc but now my problem is, when i hit the 'play' button and try to select the deck i made from the planeswalker pack it says like half my cards are illegal...How do i know which cards are legal when building a deck? Im pretty confused and would appreciate advice.

Edit: oh yeah i forgot to mention i can use my deck when hosting a "new player" match. Why is this?

Planeswalker cards are banned in all non planeswalker events. If you have the deck type set to "Standard" or even "Legacy" it will tell you everything is illegal. You have to set it to "Planeswalker".

Also keep in mind if you make standard/block decks you have to have the LANDS that are in standard/block and the default ones it gives you are Ravnica...that's the most annoying part.

Really? Is that even a Pro Tour/Grand Prix rule? I swear I saw Alpha/Beta basic lands used in recent standard tourneys.

Either make a bad pauper deck (good ones tend to cost 5-6) or buy 3 packs and draft.

Is this real? I've played mtgo for years and never knew this. I always use promo lands in constructed and never noticed lol.

I only use MTGO to draft (good fun sometimes), if you do reasonably well it's pretty self sustaining, you win packs, and probably 1 draft in 3 or so you can pull a mythic that'll net you 10-25 tickets. I put about £15 into each set that releases, and then live quite happily off of the winnings. Occasionally I'll get unlucky, if I drop too low but aren't enjoying the set too much I'lll just not bother until the next release.

Drafting is the only interesting thing on there since the population crashed.

So I played my first draft last night, I ended up going 4-5 with RW humans, not too bad I guess. But the reason I'm posting about it is because Judi warned me against preconceptions when drafting, and I feel like I didn't listen. It turned out the girl to my right was drafting red, and only 1 of 7 at my table drafted green, I saw many possible green cards and looking back should have went UG I think. My question is, at one point is it too late to switch? I noticed the amount of greens being passed so I thought perhaps switching in booster 2 would of helped me, should I have done this?

It's almost never too late to switch depending on if you open an insane bomb or what not. If you saw a lot of green pack 1 and were passing it it's a good sign green is open. I wouldn't start pack 2 picking green though since there is a good chance the person to your left is green since you passed him all that good stuff. But if he starts passing you good green cards then you can be pretty sure it's safe to switch.

Pack 2 often you open up a sweet rare and just slam it and move into that color. It really depends on how other people are drafting and reading signals. The worry about seeing something open at the end of pack 1 is that someone passing to you might have noticed this signal as well, and then you both move in, but he picks up the better green cards.

In general you start looking at 2 colors in pack 1, of which you should keep 1, but you can probably drop the other. Biggest signs that green is open aside from lots of green cards is seeing a late forcemage. For blue, a late mist raven tells me that. For white, a late Seraph, Black would I guess be a late seclusion (despite being an uncommon), but normally if I end up in black it's because I feel that I'm cut out of my other colors, or I just pick up much death wind, or I have a sweet black bomb. Red it is something like a late Pillar of Flame.

Generally by pack 3 it's too late to switch, but it really depends on how many playables you have when you switch. If you can't get to 23 playables, or don't think you can, don't switch. So mid pack 2 is usually the latest I will switch. This doesn't mean I won't splash a sweet rare in pack 3.

Draft last night was really weird because I was technically signaling badly because I passed 3 mad prophets over the course of the draft, but I also picked 3... so yeah seeing 6 mad prophets is really awkward in a draft.

THanks for replies, I think I should of switched then. Noone seemed to want green, i was passed a forcemage as my last card??? Also took a forcemage in a pile of 3 greens that were passed to me, and that was still booster 1. I should of switched honestly but that's what experience will earn me.

How the hell do you get a forcemage last pick (I WANT TO DRAFT WHERE YOU DRAFT!!!!)? I won a draft completely rareless just (lol) off the back of 3 forcemages. A single forcemage can probably on average push 6 damage through, and when you pair 2 forcemages and have 2 4/4's by turn 4 it's just completely insane. I also had a howlgeist that draft, won a game because his 4 power guys couldn't block my howlgeist forcemage pair. So yes, you probably should have moved into green if you get 2 forcemages pack 1. I think I could do pretty well in a draft just with 23 forcemage 17 forest.

Dear lord, that's quite a signal.

Black signals are late (pick 6-7+) Death Winds, Homicidal Seclusions, Barter in Bloods, Blood Artist, Bloodflow Connoisseurs, Bone Splitters, and the uncommon+ Demons in roughly decreasing order of signal strength (Don't expect to see too many Death Winds, it's worth splashing for). If you see those mid-late in pack 1-2, it might be worth picking a few up and keeping an eye out for a potential switch to black.

Well they drop the mana out of the booster before we start and I was sitting at the new players table of 7, so that new players draft together, and then the table of 8 was the experienced who drafted together. Just a shame I had to play the experienced players -.-
