hmmm. i would take out the cereberal eruption and put in staggershocks. take out cloaks and claws and put in searing blazes. maybe add kiln fiend+assault strobe.

I might add in assault strobe in place of Cerebral Eruption but Whispersilk is just too good for Steel hellkites and their ability to keep the board cleared.

i have a feeling he doesnt play with a board. no offense shotcoder.
my tip to you would be pick a strategy and stick with it. if you want to win with big flying beaters, do that. if you want to burn them to death as fast as possible do that. now that i look at your list, it looks more like you want to do the flying beater plan since you have myr.

my tip would then be to add everflowing chalice. maybe add wurmcoil engines. maybe get some ratchet bombs. and ditch the replicas.

No offense taken, this deck was built less than a week ago and it currently doesn't have a side board.

The idea behind this deck is to get a Hellkite on the board as fast as possible so I can start using it's ability to destroy permanents and speed up the killing process by burning them to death. I tend to Stick to a card theme or a deck theme and really Steel Hellkite is my favorite card from the Scars of Mirrodin set and I went polar opposite of my Mill deck.

Also to note, I'm a casual gamer and usually only participate in friendly drafts or small tournaments hosted by the Kent State Magic Club.

Whispersilk Cloak doesn't really advance your win condition any, since Steel Hellkite already flies and you can probably burn out any flyers they might stick in the way. Everflowing Chalice was recommended earlier and if you have access to that card, it's a much better way of getting to where you want to be (smashing face with Steel Hellkite).

Claws of Valakut is a very questionable choice =[ Steel Hellkite is already going to win the game if it can connect once or twice, Claws of Valakut doesn't really do anything other than spend mana you could have spent blowing up their permanents or burning out their last bit of life. Your mana is already precarious enough with only 20 lands, one Arc Trail or Pyroclasm or Forked Bolt and suddenly you might be screwed. Ratchet Bomb also ends you.
Incidentally Arc Trail and/or Forked Bolt are good cards to consider.

Just playtested your deck, Claws of Valakut and Whispersilk Cloak are almost always dead cards, which you really can't afford to have when your mana base dies to any kind of removal. Any generic creature or burn spell would go better in those spots just to have more ways to use your mana to actually kill your opponent. Like seriously just pick any creature or burn spell and it will make your deck considerably better; even replacing them with 4 mountains makes the deck run smoother since you won't miss land drops as often. Everflowing Chalice x2, (some goblin) x2 is definitely a better fit for the deck.

I dont have access to everflowing chalice but I did take your advice and switched out those cards. I put in 2 Arc Trails and 2 Myr Galvanizers.

heres a quick way of thinking about lands. in your deck you really need to hit your first 4 land drops. that means in 10 cards(7+3 draws) 4 need to be lands. 4/10=x/60. x=24. bingo.

works for ratios of colors too say you really nede to hit your WW spell. 2/8 cards need to be plains

I fail at building decks but jsut a though could a mono-blue deck w/ Soliton and Heavy arbalest win :O? It's pretty ridiculous how much damage/removal can come out of that thing given you have enough mana...

I think this would be awesome, it's more of a help to sort of give a general idea of what's a good core for a deck.

Note: will add control decks later to much writing :3 aslso I play Bant (U/G/W Vine/Shaman Deck)

Alright I will briefly go over the core of Standard:

Valakut Ramp: Valakut ramp is a deck that is R/G and focuses on the card Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. This deck uses green to ramp into either mountains to make Valakut go off or cards like Primeval Titan to search for Valakut's or Avenger of Zendikar just as a ramp wincon. This deck has posted quite good results as ramp makes up around 1/3rd of the current standard metagame, (there is one other top ramp deck that I will talk about next included in that 3rd). I think that this deck is quite better but find it weak vs the other ramp matchups and thus think it is slightly inferior to its alternative.

Eldrazi Ramp:
Eldrazi Green ramp uses the most effective ramp cards in the format. While Valakut ramp is not that week to spot removal as most of its ramp cards are spells (most lists run primarily spells some use more creatures) Eldrazi ramp however needs to cast bigger cards then Valakut and is mono colored so it doesn't have the back up plan of Lightning Bolt or other red removal cards to fend off. The fact that Valakut runs more of a creature based ramp plan while utilizing the hardest ramp spells in the format allow it to out ramp its brother Valakut giving it an edge in the ramp mirror. Eldrazi ramp again uses the insanely powerful Primeval Titan but this time finding cards like Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple which it can then use to tutor for and play its Eldrazi finishers (Eldrazi: Ulamog, Emrakul, and Kozilek).

RDW (Red Deck Wins):
Red deck wins runs a lot of fast aggressive cards like Goblin Guide and a lot of burn cards like Lightning Bolt to either clear the way for its aggressive attackers or finish off the opponent by domeing them with burn spells. With the recent addition of Scar's of Mirrodin a lot of red decks have slowed down a little bit while still staying the agressor they play some mid game cards like Koth of the Hammer and Molten Tail Masticore in order to help finish off opponents in the mid game.

(U/G/X Shaman/Vine:
(for those who are new to magic U=Blue since B already is black and the X is a third color that accompanies the U/G core of the Shaman Vine deck)
U/G/X Shaman/Vine builds are the midrange decks of the current standard and utilize the synergy between vengevine and Fauna Shaman. For example you can discard a vengevine to fauna shaman and search up another vine. Then repeat this process till you have 2-4 Vines in the yard and search up Trinket Mage and then with the trinket mage search up Memnite giving you two creature casts and returning the vines to play (can also search up Squadron Hawk again playing two creatures to recur vine. Other then those cards it is a pretty typical midrange using some Mana dorks like Birds of Paradise and Lotus Cobra to speed up its plays. Midrange decks are usually quite good at playing the card advantage (a short explination of card advantage is if you think that both players start with 7 cards as resources and you make one card take out two of their cards you are gaining card advantage, usually if the board is in an equal state due to a lot of 2 for one card advantage plays like blocking with vine and then recurring it and then blocking again you can be ahead as you have the cards=resources in your hand to stay ahead and win and your opponent has to rely on drawing off the top of their deck) game especially with vengevine as the core of most modern midrange decks. Blue is very effective as cards like Jace, the Mind Sculptor are very effective at keeping you ahead with card draw (card advantage) and the ability to control your opponents draw making your card advantage even more important. The other colors typically seen as third colors for these decks are red and white and occasionally black. Red gives you removal like Lightning Bolt and Cunning Sparkmage+ Basilisk Collar to remove the enemies creatures, white gives you cards like Squadron Hawk and the various white Planes-Walkersplanes-walkers and the ability to play Venser. Black gives you some good cards like SKinnrender but I personally think its weaker then either white or red as a third color.

Elf Shaman:
Elf Shaman is a core of tribal elf cards also utilizing the vengevine and Fauna Shaman core that I talked about above. It uses cards like Elvish Archdruid to pump up its elves and provide additional mana. The power in this deck comes from the fact that it plays a lot of mana producing one drops or "Mana-Dorks" as they are known such as Arbror Elf and Joraga Treespeaker to be able to play a ton of guys really quickly and beat with cards hat effect elf tribal or finish with an overun effect such as Eldrazi Monument or Ezuri to finish the game. It also synergises well with vengevine because it plays so many low drops that it can return it to play quite easily.
