You kind of have to if you're playing an unmodded bg1 and bg2; they use different proficiencies.
As for mods, I've never played BGT and I don't recall ever reassigning proficiencies after importing a tutu save into bg2.

Thx guys. I'm having so much fun with the game lol. I jump around and feel lucky alot when i even get some magic items with "+2" such as my recent "uber"-item "short swort +2" lol, so don't post some god-mode items plz. I will only feel bad about it , hehe (plz use spoilers ).
But yeah back to my question. I wanted to go dual scimitar, but hell i didnt know that i couldn't buy some up until Act 3 or so ! Don't wanna rush it though, I am doing all the minor quests and such. Btw I've already noticed that it is not always useful to solve the quest right ? As for example the quest to get this "Girdle of piercing" or smth like that. I mean the item is so much better than 100g that i would have hotten as reward isn't it ?
Besides this, i've accumulated a tons of gems. What can i do with them ? Or is it just for sale ? Dunno, I'm kinda playing it like Diablo lol .
And btw pffff i don't need stoneskin and this shit I have my uber-spell "bless" lol xD j/k. Being a noob is so cool so much to explore
Thx.

don't know about TOB though.
And for most gems, sell them.

Oh yeah, sometimes it's not worth it to return the quest item, be sure to keep the golden pantaloons as well! It's probably the "best" easter egg in the game, pretty worth it to lug them around all this time. As for gems, I don't think any of the gems in BG1 were required for anything so just sell them at the most convenient place and you should be good.

I was wondering, have any of you played as a Monk? Im realy curious how they do throughout the game
|
- i recommend having jan in your party, he is a versatile character and sooooo funny, especially with minsk also in your party - i also recommend testing your romance options. those are (with a male pc): viconia, jaheira and aerie. - do every quest and dont dodge any enemies. - in pretty much every sprpg, warriors are strong early game while mages get stronger in late game. monks and sorcerers are particularly powerful. if ur looking for a more sophisticated character development pick human kensai and switch to mage halfway through. fighter/mage combos (with buffing spells of course) are one of the most powerful 'builds'. don't pick a rogue as you REALLY should have jan for this ^^ - hf mate, this is the game that made me fake being sick so i could play while my friends were stuck at school

My first playthru was with a Monk HC. In BG2 they are a bit weak early game but become "gods" in ToB :p. In BG1 they are just weak.
I would recommend doing Nalia's quest first... Flail of the Ages is a godlike weapon... My favorite alltogether (you get it early, it's very strong and you can upgrade it in Tob).
If your not experienced with the game getting Celestial Fury early on might be a little hard .
Btw: I never liked Jan and later played Fighter/Thief myself mostly... The most fun i had with an Assassin HC (which is actually a very weak class but his Posion works on Bows, in BG2 there are 2 good shortbows and with the poison you completly wtfpwn Mages which makes most of the *hard* early fights a cakewalk...)

Is this some sort of mod?
My post somewhere mentioned that I played monk. They are pretty kick-ass the entire game, but as far as I recall, the downsides are not being able to wear as much equipment (helmet, armor, weapon), and not able to dual-class, but I could be wrong.
Overall, I'd highly recommend it if you've already tried other classes in this game, or other games (BG1, Icewind Dale, etc.), because they are different than any other class by quite a bit.
I remember in Pen and paper D&D game, I think version 2, monks were really crazy. I think you had to have rolled minimum 14 of every stat or something to be allowed to be one, and you'd get only 1d4 of health, which was pretty hilarious if you rolled like a 1, but even 2 or 3 was really sucky, since they weren't casters.

Thanks alot I always thoght that it might be a kik-ass class, but i guess i never had the courage to try one:D

The Mod that lets you play BG1 with BG2 resolution and so on also enables the BG2 classes.
The Monk in BG2 is just like a Warrior that doesn't need gear and gets silly high Magic Resistant later on :p. I felt it went like this: In Irenicus Dungeon he was just as strong if not stronger than a Warrior. Shortly after he was weaker than normal Warriors because Warriors get shiny Wepaons and the Monk needs some Levels to get the stuff that actually makes him good. Well, this probably depends on how good you know the game/where to get good stuff "easy". Later on he felt just like a ridiculous good geared Warrior whiteout the need for Items and a silly high magic resistance ^^ (which makes other partymembers better because you don't need to share the really good stuff).

The thing is, in the later stages of the game, the bar for combat utility isn't set by your Warriors, but by your Mages. Being more useful than a Warrior at level 15 isn't entirely that helpful.

Quick question: Is BG1 similar to BG2 in gameplay, character development and graphics? Because if so, I might track it down and play it through.
|
Well i have all those mods installed ( except one pixel ) and no major problems for me awww The only small bugs so far ( i'm still in BG1 ) are: - a couple of items description make no sense - Some dialogs and voices are English and some in French.
All your dialogs are bugged ? It is really unplayable ?
|
Nah, it's just a minor thing. It only happens to like a few percentage of the dialogue, and it's a bit funny at times. Sometimes the characters have really long names, like a few sentences long. And hopefully it goes away after BGII. Otherwise it plays extremely well, I was afraid of crashes and similar things but haven't had a single one after like 30 hours. I have another question though, how is the transition, do you spawn in the prison after defeating Sarevok? Can you go back to BG1 areas? And also, what about the characters and their items? I suspect you only have your own character and his items (?) when you enter BGII?

In my experience, that is the result of installing mods in the wrong order.

This thread makes me want to spend another 100hours to play through the series :/
Best RPG ever made hands down. Dragon Age could have been up there, but sadly sloppy skills and unrefined combat mechanics coupled with an average plotline won't ever threat the master of the genre that is BG2.
Dragon age had good character banters and voice acting though so it might be second best (or third if you put BG1 second)
On a side note I would really advise those that never played it but liked BG to play through Planescape Torment. This one was also one of my best experience in a RPG, the story is really original and strong.

Ohhh cool, i thought it was too buggy to play and that you were pissed :o

No you can't go back to BG1 areas and yea you only have your own character. You also lose your items in the prison.

one of the best games ever..
Explore everything, whole map must be open

Just remember, as a monk there is a set of gloves in the sahugin city, I think you get them if you help the king over the prince. Its like the only monk-only item in the game so you probably want to pick it up!
For your replay go for a kensai/mage
