This were numbers pulled out of my ass. Just for comparison with GW2 which goes from 2-3 digit numbers to 3-5 digit numbers. Feels so strange... You know, how in GW1 you see 3 digit numbers pop up for damage you know that something huge just hit, in GW2 some lower damage ranges I've seen in videos so far were 3 digit numbers, usually starting with a 3. Me no like.

When is this game coming out, or when is the beta coming out? They have been super mum on that T.T

Anyway to catch up on it?

Another PVP video from GamesCom. The video quality is lower than Asura Thief one, but the quality of the engagements is a lot better, plus a decent commentator (two if you can speak german). Looks like a human elementalist? Some really cool looking abilities.

I guess youtube is still processing it so quality will get better as time passes. And yes, its a elementalist.

ok so I was at gamescom today and it was so fricking overcrowded I couldnt play anything because I didnt want to line up for 2 hours ...
What I saw from the GW2 PvP booth did not really make me excited. Take this with a grain of salt though because I was only watching some, I suppose pretty nooby, players play the game.
What I saw was like Arathi zergfest, with some arbitrary objects but the main point was the zerging and from time to time you go around and capture a point super fast. Because everybody can do everything there is pretty much no incentive for random players to group up and do something together. The map they showed of was way too big for their desired 5vs5 GVG replacement.
But what bugged me the most was this super stupid jump timeslow animation where your character jumps up, slows down, does actually nothing and somehow kills someone who lays on the ground

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps you just had a bad run, a few of our guildies who are there now are quite enjoying it.
I hope to hear more about WvW before all of this is over.

I remember hearing or reading that the current animation for the Finishing Move/Killing Blow is just a place holder. I imagine each class/race/weapon will have a specific animation that takes the same amount of time to do it's thing. The game's not even in Beta yet, so things like map size, team strategy, and animations are far from written in stone. At this stage, I'm just happy you can dodge attacks that you see coming from a mile away and it seems a LOT more action oriented than WoW/WAR PvP, especially for the range characters.

ok that's good to know that it is just a placeholder. And man I was at the PvE booth too and it was so overcrowded and there were virtually no lines either, cause germans cant form lines , so it was like absolutely random if you got to play or not. But I guess I will still buy the game I loved Prophecies after all.
and I got to see Kellymilkies like 2m away from me and she was with a super hot girl too so my day was overall pretty good :D

gw is an awesome game, played gw 1 for about 3k hours cuz the pvp is just absolutely awesome, too bad that the game is cinda dead now, but gw2 is going to be different, so I hope the pvp is going to be just as awesome as in gw1, the game is alot more based on skillz than on your items or whatever which makes the game so much different from WoW, because WoW is more based on how much time and how much good items you got than actual skill.

Wow is pretty fair with gear/balance, I think what kills wow pvp (arena) is how hard it is for someone brand new to actually get into gear against someone who's played since BC for example, the same goes for raiding.
In gw the reason it worked so great is because they made it very easy for the beginner to get on the same playing field as people who have played for years. Whether or not they could compete was reliant on their skill and ability to learn their class.

Ok. So I've been playing Lineage2 for 3 years, then WoW for 5 years and Aion during the beta so I have "some" expirience with MMORPG. After watching some video presentations yesterday I got a hype from the upcoming GW2. It really looks great, and I think it's gonna feel great. The PvP looks kinda weird (which is the biggest factor from every game to me...That's why I play starcraft since I was 8 DUH!). But I really wanna play it and see how it works out. Can anyone explain me smth? Firstly: how competitive 5v5 is going to look like? I mean if in WoW you have to crowd control the enemies, watch out for Diminishing Returns, peel, defend, blow cooldowns very smart. How about GW2? Is it going to be this smart? I mean I just always hope that it's gonna be by one pure formula: "Skill > All" - that's the main ingredient of a good game (PurePWNage reference). So basically yeah, who had a chance to play some pvp in a gamescon or w/e can you give me some insight for it. Secondly: how the 1v1 works? I mean is the main factor "dodge everything and place traps/bombs/auras" smartly or smth? I don't really get it. Thirdly: Can you switch insanely in the combat between your weapons hence changing your style of combat? For instance, a warrior. Get a 2-handed weapon, do some big-ass attack, jump back, put on a shield, defend smth with smth, get a 2h mace, stun, get a 2 one-handers and make a shitton of damage while enemy is stunned? I mean I can be completely wrong with that ^ but I would love if some person would give me full info about the pvp combat. Thnx. P.S.: if there's gonna be a beta, I'm gonna definetely be in one. Interested in a skilled player: hook me up with a party/guild. P.P.S.: have never played GW1. Heard about it, but after reading the gw1 article about how pvp is completely unbalanced because of 100 different profession combinations etc., I totally threw any thoughts of this game aside.

We'll be looking to upload the GW2 footage today folks.

You watched the GW2 PvP videos and got hyped? It looks so much worse than GW1 that i'm even thinking about not even trying GW2.
GW1 combat is extremely fast paced and a lot more fun than the PvP of any other MMO out there, but GW2 looks like WoW PvP with shinier graphics
PS: You should play GW1, you won't like the other MMOs anymore after you understand how different and how much better it is.

I understand opinions differ but I don't think you should judge the game before you played it (assuming you are judging from the videos only).
I spent quite some time with the demos on wednesday and the PvP played extremely well, and was a lot of fun, very tactical with a huge emphasis on movement and positioning. It is certainly very different from GW1, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I think their PvP mode will encourage a very competitive PvP scene after release, and we have only gotten a first glimpse so far. Try it out before you decide on demo videos alone
Edit: It feels quite different from WoW.
