Will do, if anyone is interested I could try starting a stream for you guys, though I've only had this game for about a week (10ish days) now but I mostly only do PvP. Currently in the guild The Last Pride, though in Guild Wars 1 I got rank 9 in less than 2 months and played on a top 10 GvG guild worldwide.
The Last Pride is sponsored by Azubu and they have an awesome site I think you guys should check out, there are a bunch of streams on there of players (its like a very mini scale of TL for gw2, they have a bunch of user streams/intro vids/other content that could be useful) and you can find it at http://gw2.azubu.com/
I'm on the Stormbluff Isle and if anyone wants to play just msg me! Also I wouldn't mind helping new comers who want to learn PvP just add me Sandstorm.3180 or Outlaw Storm

Has anyone read the books? Ghosts of Ascalon and Edge of Destiny. Worth buying and reading?

I read them both and found them to be extremly good (but note that I'm a big GW Lore fan). The style of writing is good, story telling is good, characters are amazing imho. In my opninion Ghosts of Ascalon was the better one but they are both worth buying and reading.

Got nothing to prove to you, since I really don't know who you are, not at home right now but I'll show SS's after. As for GW1, The Doppelgangers was my guild, also played a lot with Sissy Boys, if none of those names mean anything to you then you probably don't know guildwars as well as you think. At one point we held HoH for 6+ hours.

Honestly you have nothing to prove to me and i dont want proof, but considering you are actually from the era i played, lets do some numbers and see who's right out of curiosity.. (I will do them as i type this) I mean no offense with this, in fact, its quite nice to relive the GW1 pvp nostalgia by going indepth with it.
So, while sB and DoP ring bells to my head, the historical ladders dont show them as top 10 guilds (well, 20 for that matter) so i see no reason to believe they were these mighty beings. The fact that i remember them probably means they were along the lines of pub-hero's or something similar, as this was before they even introduced the spectating system. sB, DoP, EW, EviL IQ etc are all Prophecies and Season 1 guilds, back then the most dominant HoH (before even HA was introduced) group was Power of my rangers and team (Yes, he abused the shite out of rangerspike OPness.). We're you a part of that crew? Because unless memory fails me, there wasnt any other halls teams around that could compare to their stints. I also dont remember a 6 hour hold by him, usually it was like 1-2 hours of wins popping up before somebody would recap it (briefly, they'd usually be back within the hour lul.) There werent really any dominant guilds to the extent of what you say back then, and thinking on it now, DoP and sB were halls guilds, not gvg no? I think i remember them from there, they were good, but not 6 hour hold good.
In halls, this is how it worked: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hero_(title) So, lets take your run, 6 hours. Say 10 minutes a match (seems about right) add 30 mins to it for the matches prior to halls and do the match. 6 hours 30 mins = 51 wins
Doing the math its roughly 9604 fame for that one sitting.
Rank 9 requires 4665 fame.
These numbers dont even add up in my head, perhaps i did it wrong.
Now that seems wrong to me as it was after the release of factions that power got his R12 (im pretty sure after the second season had started) and R9+ teams started popping up on a regular basis well after HA's release too.
To get rank 9 in two months that soon after release when one of the most esteemed (and first rank 12, other then an asian i believe) Halls players took untill after the expansion was released to get only 4 times that amount. Seems very strange and none of it seems to add up to me.
In fact, when i saw you said you had done rank 9 in two months, i was almost sure you would have done it when the competitive scene had died out after nightfall and eotn in 2010+ not in its prime, if it was done at all.
Either way, was fun looking up all these facts and remembering old guilds i used to idolise. (I myself was only ever in a top 100 gvg guild for a short period and barely made rank 9 before i quit right after the change to 6 man halls.)
IWAY ftw, not xD
TL;DR I wanted to be nostalgic while going through this guys claims logically, i dont have any logistical proof but the history of the game i remember (could be wrong, long time ago) dictates that he was wrong.

So basically everything you said was off "memory" and that you don't remember some of the stuff happening, interesting. It's not hard to rack up that much fame, especially when you win and it stacks, on top of that, you are being very precise, and I guess that's my fault since I did give #'s, which was just a rough estimate, 2 months could of been 2.5 and the 6 hours could of been 5/5.5
During the first season/right after beta, only about 5-6 teams held halls on a regular basis, if someone else were to luckily claim it, they would not defend it and would lose it again. Like I said I'm not here to prove anything, neither are you.

The books are mediocre at best, I only recommend reading them if you want to get some backstory/lore for the game. Ghosts of Ascalon is the better book imo and contains a wealth of info especially about the Charr and their culture. Destiny's Edge is more about meeting the game's principle heroes and familiarizing yourself with their history.

Wanted to start playing again, only reason I quit in the first place is because all my friends stopped.
I didnt see any info in the OP for an American TL guild so I was wondering if there was one?
and if there is how do I join?

So after long experience with MMOs and my long love for WoW, I have finally reached the point where I can't stand the game anymore. At first, I was hyped with MoP but now when it is one month into the game I simply can't stand doing dailies and I'm not really happy about other stuff that I have already been doing there for so long. Other aspects of the game were basically left unchanged as well so overall I'm terribly dissapointed with what my old addiction has become. On top of that, my guild decided to basically disband becouse of various reasons, so the "people" aspect is gone and so is my interest with the game.
Now to the actual question I would like to ask you. Do you think GW is worth to give it a try? I did read reviews, been following the thread a little and I know that this question was already asked again and again. Though I am not really willing to go closely through all the posts so I hope you don't mind. Would appreciate, if you can provide links with reviews that in your opinion show the prons and cons of the game.
More specific, does the game feel grindy? Are there still a lot of people playing? Is pvp fun to do (I don't exactly need to have it as balanced as possible)? Are pve bits worth doing? Are the stories and environment intresting?
I'm looking for a game that doesn't eat my whole free time and allows me to simply enjoy the world in all the aspects. After few years of hardcore raiding, improving myself as a player in various games I feel like I have finally burnt out and just want to casually play few hours a week. The way I see GW2 now is sort of like online Skyrim, do you think it would be a good comparision?

That would be an excellent comparison. That said, Skyrim is vastly superior in every aspect except the whole "multi-player" thing. Personally, I thought I'd be able to enjoy the game the same way that you'd like to (casually playing for a few hours a week) but I was dead wrong. The only thing worth pursuing in GW2 are cosmetic rewards, but getting those (thinking cultural/dungeon armors and legendary weps here) requires a monstrous amount of grinding, which pretty much killed off all my motivation. I guess it's manageable if you're actually enjoying the game-play... in which case, kudos. Regardless, I'd recommend somehow trying the game out before buying. Based on reviews, etc. buying this game is a no-brainer. Unfortunately the golden glow wears off rather quickly.

@Galek : Short story : Buy it ! Long story : No monthly fees, no pay to win, probably 1 year and a half of free updates for 60$. What are you waiting for ?

No subscription is a big plus. As far as money goes, I'm fairly sure it is at least worth to pay for Jeremy Soule soundtrack even if I won't get completely hooked by the game. Anyways after watching, listening and reading more I guess I will give it a shot. Thanks for your opinons and I hope to meet you online very soon!

Anyways after watching, listening and reading more I guess I will give it a shot. Thanks for your opinons and I hope to meet you online very soon! Yeah the no subscription fee means you should just go buy it.
I got bored of it after a few weeks but I more than got my money's worth.
